I was today years old when I realized Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman played husband and wife in the movie but were really married IRL since 1982. Mind = blown
I don’t think anyone really realizes how amazing Danny is. He directed, acted and and told the story. He took care of Mara like she was his own child. He made sure maras mom saw the movie before she passed. He is honestly just an angel
@@granderondeproductions3286 Mara's mother was dying at the time of the filming of the movie. So Danny and his wife (the one who play his wife on screen) took care of her like their own child, and Danny let Mara's mother view the completed (but not yet released) movie
I love Matilda, but when I was a kid I remembered Mara Wilson for Thomas & The Magic Railroad Yes I know the movie wasn’t received well, but when you’re a little kid thomas was Fucking awesome
I've read somewhere that, back when they were shooting the movie, she would remain in character on set and between takes so the kids would be legit scared of her. Glad to see no one seems to hold it against her now.
There was a fair bit of subtle make-up involved to turn Pam Ferris into Miss Trunchbull. Things like all the broken blood vessels in her cheeks, one or two moles, and the slightly crooked teeth were all added to make her seem more intimidating.
They all are gorgeous individuals in this movie and that includes everyone else that was behind the scenes that assisted with the creation of this movie🌷
Just sayin’ Pam Ferris has absolutely still got it! After twenty years she remembers entire scenes pretty much word for word, move for move. That’s dedication to the craft :)
Danny DeVito has a heat of gold, he and his wife took care of Mara ( the actress who played Matilda) while her mom was dying of breast cancer. Shortly before her mom died, Danny brought a copy to the hospital so she could see her daughter act. Matilda was dedicated to the mother who died shortly before the movie was officially released in theaters. Danny is an amazing person and I love how much he cares about the actors
The relationship between Mara and Devito is sweeter when you realize Mara's mother died during shooting and she was always there as emotional support and even had him and his wife watch her while they found a relative to take her in.
I heard when Mara's mom had cancer he made sure she saw it for Mara's sake plus he said to her when I read about it if she needed anything he and his wife would be there for support and Danny is such a small man with an enormous heart and I want to tell him he is such a wonderful man
I personally feel early 2000s, 90s and 80s movies were very touching and meaningful and made with pure love and great intent.. I don’t feel that sparkle in movies today
@@kiltedkiller8178 80's kid's movies were scary. Like Return to Oz, Something wicked this way comes, the Secret of Nimh, even Labyrinth had it's scary moments. And even though it came out in the 90's, I consider the Witches as an honorary 80's scary kid's movie.
It's hard to do these types of movies nowadays because they aren't concentrating on making entertainment anymore. Everything is one big giant apology woke tour. And you have to represent the entire world on the movie as well. By the time they are done making the movie it's a pile of garbage.
the lady who played Ms. Trunchbull is so sweet and nice, but there is no doubt in my mind that if one of her grandkids acted up she could scare the buh-jesus out of them
Derek Orem I’m pretty sure Mr. DeVito has nothing to say about that. Matilda is a book written by Roald Dahl. Anyone who wants to make a film of the book just needs to buy the rights (or whatever you call that in English). The makers of the first Matilda film don’t have the rights anymore. They expire after some years.
I can't see anything in the comments... But just letting people know this was *filmed in 2013,* & Miss Honey was a trooper recovering from breast cancer at the time ❤️
Omg, love the lady who plays Trunchball!! She is sooo committed to the role even after all these years without missing a beat, so hilarious, she's awesome!

@@stevethea5250 I think a Mrs. Doubtfire reunion would be depressing without Robin Williams. But I do seem to remember a video where the three adult Mrs. Doubtfire kids reunited with Pierce Brosnan. They said a lot of really nice things about Robin.
Interestingly enough, Pam Ferris plays the dreadful Aunt Marge in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. She put on such a performance that it was difficult to recognize the Trunchbull.
Why can't we have similar heart warming movies like these amymore? To me they make me remember summer afternoons riding around on my bike and its not just cuz we were kids plenty of adults at that time would also sit down and enjoy these movies💜
It's nice to see them all together years later. It sounds like this was one movie that they had a lot of fun on set, not too many issues, and enjoying their time together before it goes into theaters. It was also cool getting to watch them rehearse specific scenes too (I laughed hard when I saw they baked the whole thing for Karz)
When Mara was talking about the dancing scene it brought back like all the memories. I loved it because it was just so genuine. I used to dance like that all the time as a kid
@@TyMarshall007 While the Mill Park incident was an extreme case, dog attacks are more common than most of us think. Monash University figures show that almost four Victorians are hospitalised daily as the result of a dog attack. And the numbers are rising, with a 56 per cent increase in attacks leading to amputation, broken bones and open wounds in the five years to June 2018. Surprisingly, most attacks happen in the home. Monash University’s Victorian Injury Surveillance Unit found that almost 57 per cent of attacks happened in homes, compared to just over seven per cent on the street. The RSPCA’s head of operations, Tegan McPherson, says dog attacks can happen for various reasons and the type or size of dog is not an accurate indicator that it could be aggressive. Aggression is often linked to training, socialising, owner behaviour, temperament and underlying health issues, There are steps you can take to keep you and your family safe: Never approach or pat a dog without the owner’s permission. If approached by a strange dog, let it sniff you and don’t make eye contact. Always supervise young children around dogs. Tegan says toddlers are the most at risk of dog bites because of the way they approach and try to play with dogs. “Throwing their arms around a dog, burying their face in them, climbing on their back - these are all things a predator might do and are seen as a threat,” she says. Learn to recognise signs that a dog might be stressed. Growling and barking are obvious but excessive yawning and holding the tail high or between its legs or laying its ears back can also be signs the dog is stressed and might become aggressive. A dog that freezes and stares is in the most heightened state of stress. If your dog is normally calm then starts to demonstrate fear or anxiety, consult an animal behaviourist or vet in case there is an underlying problem that can be treated. “Dogs can have pathological changes in the brain due to pain or illness which can trigger aggression,” says Tegan. If a dog lunges at you, turn sideways and use your arms to protect your face, neck and body, and use a bag or a jumper to create a barrier. If bitten seek medical attention, no matter how minor the bite, to prevent infection. When your dog reaches three months of age in Victoria, it must be registered with your local council and that registration needs renewal every April. If your dog hasn’t been registered before, it will also need to be microchipped first.
When Danny kissed Mara that wasnt just a i miss you kiss that was a where has my daughter been kiss! So beautiful . For the longest time I didn't think we were going to get this. So thankful for this!
Pam Ferris looks NOTHING like her character Miss Trunchbull in real life! She's so classy-looking and beautiful! And I can't believe how thin the guy who played Bruce is! He's so good-looking today! Matilda was one of my favorite films growing up as a kid! It was part of my childhood! I love how they included many of the film's props at the reunion! ❤️
I was 10 when the film came out. The dad of one of the boys in my class at school owned or managed the local cinema and let our whole class come and watched the film free with free popcorn and drinks. It was the best cinema trip ever. Happy days
Oh god! The part where they all re-act the whole scene again are so beautiful and I love it so much! I'm crying over this and I can't help myself over this
I remember a lot of the young child actors actually haven't done much acting work since then. For instance both actors that play Julius Rotwinkle and Bruce Bogtrotter are now doctors.
She's actually an author now, she published her own book about her whole experience, the image of her as Matilda is actually the cover of the book if I'm not mistaken. 😂
The scene with the pigtails always gets me lol The little girl was so adorable. The lady who played Trenchbull is amazing...she seems so sweet in real life lol
This made me smile from ear to ear. Miss Trunchbull snapped into character and I was transported back to the film. I think it’s a testament to how lovely the cast were that everyone came back to the reunion and obviously Matilda was an experience they never forgot, and neither will I. One of the best childhood films that will last the test of time, amazing cast, amazing humour, and loyal to the book, too. Thank you all involved! :) ❤️
Man this is one recommended video I could not pass up, I was born in 93 and Matilda was one of favorite movies as a kid. I hoped all my teachers would be like Ms. Honey, kids to be as awesome as Matilda’s friends and Principles to be mean like Ms.Trunchbull. I could feel how emotional this was for Danny to see those people I hope he does get a chance to watch the movie with all of them again someday.
she sounds like a teacher now... they need to throw her in a good horror movie I dont know if she still wants the big screen, but she should def do something jarring to shake her matilda. she looks exactly the same, which is why i havent seen her in much since then.
The amazing part about all of this is Mara Wilson is now involved in education and helping children learn to read. Matilda, teaching kids how to read. The movie was about finding a place where you can love and be loved back, and that's exactly what Mara has found. That's some really beautiful poetic shit right there. You haven't seen her in much since then because she stepped away from Hollywood and acting shortly after hitting puberty. Many of the roles she was interested in pursuing she was unable to get because she couldn't look the part. Mara pretty much hates Hollywood anyhow. She has expressed disinterest in diving back into movies and overall she's glad that her life wasn't ruined by becoming a super famous child-star.
You can really tell how much love went into and was behind this film. Such a heartwarming watch to see them all together and enjoying each other's company. Pam slipped back into Trunchbull like a comfy pair of shoes as well, she's phenomenal 😂
Mara was such a great child actress. And Danny and Rhea have been part of the pop culture of my life since childhood since I was younger than Mara was when filming this movie (I'll be 48 in 2 months). And the young lady who played Lavender is as beautiful now as she was utterly adorable then. All the former child actors look amazing! And I must take a moment to say that Embeth was a favorite actress of mine already even as far back as Sheila in Army of Darkness, but her role in Ray Donovan as a breast cancer survivor (which she is herself) was truly awe-inspiring. I pray that she is still doing well. Thank you so much for letting us catch up with the cast and crew of this amazing movie. I loved Matilda the book as a child and Matilda the movie as a young adult. And to my fellow New Jersey native Danny . . . from the It's Always Sunny Jersey Shore episode, thank you for adding "I'm sorry, Rum Ham!" to my vocabulary! I say it every time I slice a ham! 😁
What really shines from this is just how much love there is for Danny. They all have so much respect and admiration for him and i can see why. I hope Mr DeVito always remains one of the good guys
Matilda's one of those movies that everyone knows and love. It's so inspiring, and beautifully done. It got me thinking about how and why so many people love it, and I think it's because it's honest, and it shows. We see how a happy family lives; we see toxic relationships being torn appart; we see the "bad" people in our lives go away; these things are real to us, and we can see it in a more fun, theatrical way. So many movies fail to portrait what realationships look, even romantic movies, but Matilda got everything right, thanks to the cast of incredible "kid actors", and "adult actors"; the insanely talented Danny DeVito, not only directing and acting, but being "the uncle" to everyone, and all the people involved; together they created more than just a mere movie, they created art.
