Resurrection and eternal life in heaven has often been cited as a reason for Christianity's success against Paganism. To consider this proposition, we need to look in more depth at how different pagan religions envisioned the afterlife.
Three things struck me in this talk:1) How all of these philosophies about an afterlife are still present and active in today's world. 2) How much I respect and admire John Hamer's approach in leaving space in the conversation for personal discovery. 3) Even as humanity wrestles with questions both large and small, we do like to have tidy little boxes for our answers. But evolution of consciousness will never be a tidy box based on past knowledge, or there wouldn't be evolution. Thank you for sharing!
thanks for doing this series! it was a meaningful moment to reflect on each week. lots of illumination this season thanks you! i hope ur new year will be even brighter 💜
Im Christian myself.. but a thought came to mind concerning people afraid of the unknown.. whether theres an afterlife or not..some who doubt or believe there isn't an afterlife think they (ones consciousness or & soul ) may possibly be lost in a dark void forever drifting aimlessly, lost forevermore... myself being Christian have come to believe that if heaven exists and myself deemed worthy to enter the kingdom of God, well i do not want heaven.. if heaven exists ill ask for an alternative, the alternative of which so many fear because in my opinion they misunderstood.. for if no afterlife exists, then i believe it is not a dark void to be lost and drift infinitely.. try and think of it like this, " a light switch being flicked off" the term is called "eternal oblivion" the cease of your consciousness, to becoming nothingness upon your death.. no fear. no pain. no sadness. No joy.. happiness..love..etc. absolutely nothingness .. This is what, at this moment, i want because when thinking about eternal life?... to live forever?.. i have a hard time believing that any individual actually would want that if they put serious thought into the matter.... for i believe that after a certain amount of time, even heaven can feel like hell.
@@alanpennie8013 lol thanks, quite the compliment , to be compared or even just mentioned in the same sentence as him lol. Valhalla though it is often seen as a good thing too most (i admit there are fun aspects) is more a way for odin to build an army, the noble warriors who die are split between freya and odin.
Elysium was originally only for heroes, but over time anyone who led a noble or virtuous life is admitted there. Or as long as the Gods choose you, you can enter Elysium.
*_"What happens after death?"_* You are buried and your body decomposes, or you are cremated and your ashes scattered or kept in an urn. Beyond that, no one knows. Houdini swore during his life that if there was any possible way he would contact his wife after his death. He never did. That could mean that there is no life after death, or it could just mean that he never found a way to contact her. No one knows. {:-:-:}
There are so many titles and different beliefs to being a pagan, I consider myself a Odinist to keep it simple to people of other faith.... Until they ask me who Odin is.....😮💨😮💨lol
Everyone of humans will be held accountable for what he or she did during mature life time. There will be rewards Heaven for those who followed the teachings of All messengers and hellfire foe those who rejected
King Biscuit Daniel 12:2 “1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt”
King Biscuit you should fear the lord if you are not following him but if you are following him why fear? If you do what he says you will be saved but if not well..
King Biscuit who are your so called gods? Well you would rather go to heaven to glory than go to hell(hades) and feel shame and sadness I think everyone would want that no it’s not out of fear but you also need to have respect and be faithful and obedient to the lord if you are serving him you do it out of love not fear
