I agree with you on that!...FT86SpeedFactory has a bunch of videos like this. I appreciate all of the install videos for all the different things they offer for sale.
I can't stand listening to car guys that think they know it all but Thomas is super humble and is a car genuis, the amount of info in this video is insane.
Great breakdown of these exhaust systems and their cons/pros. It took me a few days of reading to learn what this video summarized in just a few minutes. This one's going into my favorite's folder, thanks dooods!
I have got the ft86 header, borla overpipe and front pipe catless, and the invida q300 cat back, not obnoxiously loud but significantly deeper and I am finally pleased with the sound me car makes and would recommend
With the headers do you find it to have any rasp? I have the q300 with invidia catless front pipe and overpipe. I was looking at the borla UEL catless headers next but want to avoid it get real raspy.
no I would not call the sound raspy. there is a nice deep throatiness to it but it is not overly load or obnoxious. since the q300 isn't very loud and muffles alot of sound I think thats how you can get away with the straight piped front pipe. The front pipe mod opened up the exhaust more than the headers did and is defendant must.
yeah I did flash tune it for unequal length headers. At first I wasn't convinced because I got the tune off their website and it was a hassle bc it didn't work properly and I had to use a computer to download new software and tunes to it which I should't have had to do. However it has done a good job of reducing the torque dip. I highly recommend a catless from pipe if you don't have one already. It did more sound wise than a new header and if you have primary cats you shouldn't have a ecu light problem. The front pipe also made it where it pops on upshifts which I love. But now I really want that backfiring tune. The overall sound is not obnoxious, and has a really nice tone, and just right from me right now. But if i wanted more loud I'd go for that N1 catback.
Make more videos like this where you guys explain the functions of many types of systems of a car especially this one since I own a Brz. Quality videos without a doubt!
Your videos are great already had to subscribe just got an FRS to match up with my AE86 and your videos I have very good information I enjoy watching them
These video clips have been taken from videos over a number of years, if it was a true comparison sure, but theses have been clipped from their earlier videos to save time/money
Used engine restorer 4 cylinders on my 2015 Scion FRS and I now have around 6 check engine codes. Cars at 82,200 miles and it says on the can use on any car over 50k...also put in a bottle of STP gas after a trip the gas station. Codes with the same oil I used the restorer on: P0420, P0014, P0014, P000B, P000D, P00014 Codes AFTER I changed the oil(because I changed the oil around 15 miles after): P0420, P0014, P000B, P000B, P000D, P0014, P000B. A month or 2 ago the car was at stage 1 with the OPENFLASHTABLET then stage 3+ with flex fuel(without flex fuel kit). Flashed it back to original ECU/file and sold the OpenFlashTablet. Some miles later it gave a transmission code cel problem then it fixed itself....then a catalytic converter o2 problem...let the car idle for 30 minutes rev'd it a bit then fixed itself......now this..help pls ty
I'm pretty sure that titanium is (pretty much) as strong as steel, per unit of volume, so the exhaust pipes shouldn't be much thinner than the steel stuff, it's just that titanium is much less dense. Also, if the walls are thinner, that's probably because titanium is incredibly heat tolerant, but that's not because of its strength.
No, actually it isn't. "the best steel is stronger than titanium alloys. In unalloyed condition, titanium is 45% lighter, and as strong as steel." Their catted header is slightly louder, the catless screams. Look up videos of them before you buy. Other people from speed factory have even said the catless is unbearable as a daily driver. I have the catted and I love it. Just added a little rumble and it’s more throaty than before.
Would a catless front pipe be worth it if you have a catted header for performance? I have no idea why there are 2 cats on the exhaust if it's only one line, but If I make the front pipe catless with UEL Catted headers do I get a performance boost?
Miss my setup, borla v2 uel header, stock overpipe cuz it’s hard to get out the factory one due to the heat shield, catless invidia front pipe and invidia n1 exhaust, nice rumble and shot flames pre tuned or tuned
Damn! I wish i still have my frs!😥👍i miss it! I really loved that car! The problem was that the car wasn't convinient to drive during the winter months, there where a few times where i almost killed myself drivng to work! And that was only on a quarter inch of snow!🤯so i had no choise but to trade it! Maybe someday i will buy one as a second fun car for the weekend's.
so what is the deepest note while being the most quiet catback for sleeper builds? Plan on UEL header with cat and everything else I can do to deepen the tone with no highway drone or rasp. Any power goals in the future would be low to mid focused with a future possibility of something like the edelbrock supercharger or other positive displacement one.
Catback level, injen one sound the better to me (not feature in the video) they got the best "exotic tone" make the FA20 sound like a more expensive car.
If I get a 2.5 inch catback will I have to buy exhaust parts with the same diameter throughout the rest of the exhaust like the front pipe and the overpipe, etc.
Awesome video! Just for clarification, to make sure I got it all correct, if I purchase a catback it will include the front pipe and everything behind it, but not the overpipe and headers?
Just ordered the Private Label muffler delete last night. Hope the drone isnt to bad. Its only a temp mod. Are you guys going to have the Dezod Motorsport cat back systems added to the list any time soon? Awesome job on the vid!
With all your experience with these cars and products ... which exhaust from (UEL) header to the tips (keeping emissions standards) that would be the deepest/lowest note, while also being the most quiet (sleeper), even more quiet than stock is 100% acceptable. Not tracking the car. Would your catted header be the best choice? Which resonators would server the purpose well? Which mufflers? Love deep note exhaust, no drone, uel purr, clean/stock tips. For me, loud =/= fast. I've had an FC RX-7 without a cat back, so I've done the loud and highway drone before.
Ok. Your explainations of things are very clear. But I miss one thing. If we go for a full swap of the exhaust... the whole line.... I read that we could expect, for the most, 5 horsepower gained. Is it right ?
No. 5hp may be seem from just a catback. The place to make the most power is in the header and with something like our FT86SF Catted UEL header you can see gains of +14hp without a tune, and a bit more with a tune. So at least +20hp with just the header and tune. If you have any further questions, please email us at Sales@FT86speedfactory.com www.ft86speedfactory.com/contacts/
The cabin noise difference between Q300 and Gemini R400 is noticeable?. They are both good options for quiet daily driving without drone noise?. Thanks ;)
Hi I was wondering with the dual tip exhausts they usually have a bubble coming off the pipe before the tips. Is that the muffler? Also, removing that would make the exhaust louder correct? What else would removing that bubble or muffler do?
so catback exhuast replaces everything from frontpipe to tailpipe and to finish the system I would need to get a overpipe and the headers separately is this correct?
Seriously children, just install a good catted header and tune, because it makes the biggest performance gain, which is what 86/BRZ desperately needs. What's the point of having a loud but slow car? Also, the louder your car is, the less often you can go full throttle, because you'll attract attention from cops! Think about it, isn't it more fun if you can floor the gas pedal whenever you want without worrying about noise violation?
Shin Ken I don't think most people like the loudest exhaust possible they think they do but they have never lived with a straight piped car i just like a little rumble under heavy throttle I don't want to be barely accelerating and sound like im going 120
I would like to make my 86 loud but just buying the front pipe n axle back...looking at the Inividia n1 with the catless front pipe...but im not sure if its going to be as loud...but any suggestions would be apreciated and i dont have funds at the moment for headers or over pipe
So I have a dumb question, is it possible to make a brz sound like a mustang? Obviously it doesn’t have a V8 engine but the deep throuty popping sounds you get are super loud and aggressive from mustangs, I just want my brz to sound sorta like that
like your video bro does help me alot quick question about the cat header will have engine light on but the catless will not is that what you mean ? Thanks
fang Neo with cated header you will not get a check engine light since the sensors will recognize that there is a cat so it wont throw check engine light . However if you decide to go catless you will get check engine light without a tune of course
Jon Vid FI exhaust is probably the best for you. Lot of popping and it's loud. Watch Tanner foxes Frs reveal video and listen to his exhaust. That's the one he has
buddy club spec 2 is probably the loudest youll find . along with a catless header and catless testpipe. thatll let the unburned fuel combust in the exhaust itself. engine mods are needed too. no point in being loud and slow :p
If you live in a location that does not require inspection, removing the catalytic converters is one of the best ways to get the "pops". Any unequal length cat-less header over pipe, mid pipe and straight through muffles. Try to go with one that has as few bends as you can find. Don't go to big like 3", unless you plan on "boosting" the car, since over sized exhaust really kills the low end torque. Of course this is just standard exhaust tips 101... and nothing mind blowing, but hopefully it helps on which exhaust system you get.
Mitchell Cummings I have the TRD set up and it's perfect. It's quiet until you get on it. I also added a JDL front pipe and will be adding headers soon
I have a TRD catback as well... actually trying to sell it but its a really nice exhaust for a good rumble without being insane... I want insane... I'm selling it for $650
You could stick on a catted header and then go with a decent axle back... the car with make that awesome boxer rumble everyone seems to love and not be insanely loud.
