Installing after market roof rack on a 2015 Land Rover lr4. I got the Cross bars on Ebay www.ebay.com/itm/For-Roof-Rac... www.amazon.com/Bestauto-Cross...
FYI re: the aftermarket extended roof rails: I just installed a set of these this week (purchased from eBay). I ended up replacing ALL the hardware with new M10 cap screws and new washers/spacers as I didn't want to remove/cut the OEM channel covers. The OEM Land Rover extended roof rails come with instructions that require the installer to cut the channel covers to allow the rails' rubber gaskets to sit against the channels, NOT the channel covers. This is why your rear caps wouldn't sit flush. I chose NOT to cut my channel covers, so that's why I replaced all the included hardware with new, so I could custom-space the bolts, ensuring that I could bolt the rails tightly to the channels. I cut the very rear ends off the rails and then filed/painted them. Since it appears you didn't cut your covers (mounting the rails on top of them), this explains why your transition section (where the roof curves down in the front) isn't tight. If you add a few washers under the bolts you can probably get it much tighter. Also another tip to get the front cover to secure completely: You have to slide the cover down, then forward a bit first, then push BACK, not down. The blade clip is designed to secure with backward force NOT downward force.
I purchased the same roof rack off of eBay (Land Rover wanted $1,600 Cdn for theirs) and one cross bar came broken and the seller agreed to send a replacement and 3 months later it still hasn’t been sent. The ends of the cross bars are composed of super cheap plastic and it is easy to break them during installation. I would not recommend this product.
Watch the powerfulukltd channel “ How to fit extended roof rack rail to Land Rover Discovery 3 & 4. It shows you exactly what to do. By the looks of it I’m assuming your vehicle didn’t have any rails at all nor the short rails. My LR came with the short rails so the covers were already cut from factory right after the roof hump. With that said, Looks like you did not cut the roof channel covers and your rails are sitting on top of the covers instead of settling inside the channels. Hope this info helps
Hi, the reason you're having difficulty getting things to sit properly is because the channel cover is meant to be cut and removed so you only have the front section from ½" in front of the first fixing on the top roof section to the top of the screen. @@AmazingAndre they do fit yes😂 but to fit perfectly you need to cut that trim throw away the back bit , make the hole bigger on the front bit of trim to allow for the plastic on the new rail bars. The rubber at front and centre bracket will be tight. Leaving perfection
@@dominicknielson4866 i done mine last month was easy. His look like they fit pretty well but i have a roof tent and cargo rack fitted so done it properly
@@1srowlings That's what i want to have on mine, so I would prefer to have it as perfect as possible. Did you just follow the instructions from this video ....... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aV7AMmIrxA8.html any concerns with the rubber seal not aligning on the roof rails to prevent water from getting in? Im not sure if thats a concern, i haven't pulled mine off yet to look. Also, did you order OEM from land rover or go with the aftermarket ones? Thanks in advance!
