A remix by AFX from the "2 Remixes by AFX" 2001 collection. I did not make this song, AFX did. All rights belong to WMG. This video was not made for profit.
The most futuristic-sounding tech I'd say is the formant vowel filtering stuff in the last minute, and you can hear stuff like that on e.g. Sun Electric's 'Eya' from 1996.
I would just consider it an homage to 808 State and Aphex Twin... it is the highest form of respect for an artist. My high school art teacher told us if someone copies you, it is a great compliment to your work and you should be proud. Everyone seems pretty friendly in the electronic music scene... not like rappers having a beef with each other, lol.
formant filtering has been available since the invention of the vocoder. Any moderately large modular synth could do that type of filtering in the early seventies.
Yeah, it's trivial... just map out the different constant values for vowels and then use a convenient interpolation module to blend the (minimum) 3 poles from one to the next to achieve this. *laff
@@BlastinRope Man ! i read your comment and this lead me to this comment i did that you need to read, thx ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TDaPIxrgJr8.html&lc=UgzB_6AEF8WBRN8Uy3t4AaABAg

That kind of formant manipulation tech was available on really rare synths like the Technos Axcel, but I think my initial impression was that the effects on this sounded very similar to ones on Stutter Edit that I believe both BT and Richard James were beta testers for (BT helped develop it for many years). Either way it's a great track and I jumped the gun saying it wasn't AFX or made in 2001, both statements I now feel silly for making.
Benjamin Pound what the fuck are you going on about lol.this was clearly made in a Tracker.even if it wasn't it's been possible to get glitches/formant like this since the invention of samplers that provided loop point automation.you could even do this with a step sequencer or a delay line with a bit of imagination (and a shit load of dilligence)Stutter Edit,Glitch,Effectrix are for lazy cunts If we are speaking about the vowel-y stuff thats Filter FM through a tonne of saturation which has been around since the invention of modular and semi modular synthesizers (early 70ies)
It doesn't sound like technology available in 2001 but then again Richard James was probably privy to advanced software technology before it was released to the public. I should've checked his discography before I posted that. Thanks for the correction @doogthruhoopbullshit
2 Remixes By AFX is Aphex's best "there's only 2 tracks on it" release. Even better than Hangable Auto Bulb 2 and I didn't think that was possible before I heard this. I've also heard the original of this song and it's nowhere near as good. One of those songs where there's only one section to the song instead of it having verses choruses and interludes.
Yes to this. The original has soul, but there is much to love here. This feels more like an experiment than a tune though (much of AFX does to me). From a 303 fan from as far back as 1987/88
