Last week, we had a second chance Against the Odds poll, and things got a bit weird. Zur's Weirding came out on top, so I built a sweet Zur's Weirding deck and started recording matches only to realizes that Zur's Weirding is bugged on Magic Online (it reveals hands and the cards players draw, but doesn't allow you to pay life to put cards in the graveyard, which means it's basically a four-mana Telepathy). Hopefully Wizards will get it fixed and we'll be able to play the Zur's Weirding deck in the future, because it seemed sweet.
After realizing that Zur's Weirding was bugged, the card with the second most votes on the poll - Blood Sun - was declared the winner. My initial idea was to build a sort of Blood Sun ramp deck, using Blood Sun to make bouncelands enter untapped, but this didn't actually work very well. I took the combination of Blood Sun ramp not working and Zur's Weirding being bugged as a sign from the Magic gods that we were supposed to be trying to play Blood Suns (along with Blood Moons and Magus of the Moons) on turn one to lock opponents out of the game, which is how we ended up with the deck we're playing today: 12 Moon. Does Blood Sun deserve to be mentioned alongside Blood Moon as one of the best ways to pick up free wins in Modern? Let's get to the video and find out!

It took me a solid 20 minutes to figure out why you replaced koth with other chandra, and of course it's because he does literal nothing with bridge and blood sun in the deck

I would have sided out the Blood Suns and gotten the Koths instead. Koth is just such a great finisher.

Koth got a lot worse in recent years. Previously in the red decks, they were lacking finishers so you jammed 4 Koths and called it a day. Now you have other powerful options that make Koth not a necessity.

I'd be down for him to play a jank UG deck with Panharmonicon, Clever Impersonator, Phyrexian Metamorph, and Sculpting Steel. Get quintuple Thragtusks and Coiling Oracle for stupid value and try to just durdle out a victory.

During game 2 vs Eldrazi & Taxes (2nd set), during your last two rounds, you should have cast an Ensnaring Bridge. That way, if your next draw was a land, you could drop it, cast Chandra, and ping Thalia, killing her. Leonin Arbiter could attack you, leaving you at 2 life. This leaves you with an Ensnaring Bridge and Chandra in your hand. Next turn, if you draw a card you could easily get out of your hand, you could cast either one of your other cards, putting your hand size below 2, keeping Leonin Arbiter and any other creatures they might cast in the meantime from killing you. I'm not trying to yell at you. I'm just giving you a friendly pointer for a way to improve your gameplay. I love the video, along with everything you do! Thank you, Seth!

I'm glad someone is there to prove that even though Blood Moon is pretty decent at slowing down Tron, it's not the SB Silverbullet a LOT of people think it is. You either need to commit like 2-for-1 with something like SSG to rush it out or you're in danger of just getting Karn'ed out before you can resolve it. If you 2-for-1 yourself, there's a decent chance they can just cast something like Wurmcoil with 6 mountains which tends to be problematic for a lot of flavors of decks running BM. Also, I really love the Powder Eldrazi deck. People think it's jank but I've been grinding out a ton of 4-1 wins in the queues with it.

Blood Moon is great against Tron *if* you can back it up by a fast clock. It's a good way to slow Tron down (like instead of killing you on turn three with Karn they usually need until turn five at least, and sometimes turn six or seven), but it doesn't keep them in check forever (it's actual way more backbreaking against Eldrazi Tron since they need real colorless mana, normal Tron can cast just about everything with Mountains).

20 lands is far too few in a deck that, assuming the strategy works at all, you only need like 4 or 5 spells to lock a game I think 23-24 minimum to be consistently drawing lands.

Couple of questions: Do you think dropping the chalices was worth it? The deck is very tight, but I think that ultimately chalices are a fundamental part of the deck. How about adding another land? A significant number of games were lost because you failed to find land 3 on time.

Turn one mountain into double simian spirit guide into pyrethic Into chandra torch of defiance. +1 chandra gives 2 red mana and another simian spirit guide and we able to play bloodmoon " early"

My experience ,opponents can still play their colors circumventing blood sun. Cuz blood sun doesn't cancel out colors.

To answer your question at the beginning of the video, i don't think that blood sun deserves a slot in the deck...blood moon it's just straight up better if you want to make your opponent's life miserable

It really seems like Blood Sun is meant to be built around in your own deck and occasionally hose your opponent rather than be a lock piece like Blood Moon

Another way to use Blood Sun is with Dark Depths. You get down a Sun (or Moon or Magus) and then play a Depths, which enters with 0 counters on it. Then you blow up your effect and get a Marit Lage This would've been a much better Against The Odds-style brew

Moon is, more often than not, the more desirable effect. Sun only serves to be Moons 9-12, even though it is mostly worse.

4. since it was the build around card this time. so a discussion how many would be good simply is not part of this series. outside of that, though, you're likely right that the full 4 might not be needed maindeck.

Sorta. You want to deny color, not the amount of mana your opponent can muster. This will, of course, depend on your match up, but usually, you want to shut down desirable land effects if you can’t deny color. This would mean that blood sun becomes a pretty good blood moon enabler, because it negates fetching or the usage of ghost quarter type effects to find basic lands.

Against the grixis control deck couldn't you pithinf needle untransformed jayce to stop the looting and transform I noticed in g2 you waited until it transformed to putting needle?

31:05 Why molten rain the island rather than tarpit? I'd understand the play if you had a moon/magus, but without one in hand I'd rather lock them off a color, get rid of a dual-colored land, and deal some incidental damage all at once

It's a hard choice, since with some many Blood Moons we tend to him them eventually which makes us want to hit basics. I tend to go for basics when possible, but I'm not 100% sure what's right.

(8:20) I think the deck will be pretty good (it has really good and expensive cards in a slightly altered deck), except against some decks which will be really fast and you won't have very good answers to. That is my prediction. I think this could have a positive record. [Edit] You maybe needed more lands (and perhaps more specific hate and removal cards). I think the deck was really cool though.

It we didn't have Blood Moons I'd be more excited about it since we could eventually flip it and use it to kill the opponent, but with Blood Moon I'm not so sure.

Maybe it would have been better to keep the Blood Suns in against Eldrazi & Taxes (around 19:00), it shuts off their Ghost Quarter lock

Seth, did you try using Amulet of Vigor with Blood Sun? It works really well with lands that like Blood Sun, synergizing with Amulet Titan remarkably well. Highly recommend you check it out from that angle, in case you haven't.

at 19:07 why did you waste the ritual? you could've just cast molten rain, then saved the ritual for next turn that way if you top decked another land you could've played both ensnaring bridge and stone rain. also at 19:57 even though it wouldn't have stopped anything shouldn't you have just played one of the ensnaring bridges to get it out of your hand again that way if you top decked another land you could've played the chandra and been good?

Blood Sun and Moon are a pretty hefty counter-synergy. Blood Sun is only better against stuff without mana abilities like most notably fetches and is better against those than Moon, but in any other case Moon is just better.
