Spearmen actually getting hit by the fire lancer charge attack if the spearmen have their torches out is a really interesting micro game.

Once they fix the spearmen brace bugs, fix the delhi related bugs, and change the fire lancer blast radius to actually have...proper damage calculated based on the radius itself, this game would finally be in a quite balanced state. At the very least people now use actual army comp rather than just spamming just springalds, but hopefully Relic hurry themselves and launch the fix patch asap.

in lower elo game, chinese is just too overpowered. The have fire lancer that can one shot a lot of building and siege equipment. To counter it, usually you build knight/spear/crossbow that gets countered then by hornet nest and zhuge nu. It become less fun when like me, i play on asia server and all these people pick chinese cause probably, theyre chinese themseves. not fun

There was alot of focus of China here... bit this Delhi was absolutely outstanding.. baiting, spliting troops, cutting the lancers off, staying on top of walls economy, sacrificing spears to bait a charge then counter charging... immense player. lee could of taken the game a couple of times, but the Delhi scrambled just enough forces every time to scare him off

Crazy game! Love how Leenock split his Firelancers and charge in waves, keeping the explosion cycled. And Delhi responsed by sending small spearmen clumps as sacrificial waves. An intense micro duel, which ironically ended cause he lost the macro.

That spear bracing bug is disgusting. It's not nice to exploit that with firelancers...

I'm always looking for underdog wins...hence Delhi win, that too coming from a fight between high ranked players is just amazing. But more than that hats off to Aussie's charged commentary that keeps us on our toes throughout the match...keep pumping in red bull there lol!!

I have to love some of the commentary here. "What did your mum tell you, she said make stables son make stables", and the comments on air conditioning. It feels more like you're hanging out with a friend whos teaching you than it does a commentator dictating a professional sport. I fell in love with watching smash for the same reason and its a big part of what really pulled me in to AoE 4 despite being so bad myself. Pretty amazing game too, I was sure BlueElephanto was going to tap out almost the whole way through. I get a feeling fire lancers might be next to meet the nerf axe.

So is animation-cancelling totally fine? I have a hard time making rules for myself on online play between what is considered ok to do and what not. When I'm animation cancelling my elephants when they raze buildings it kind of feels like cheating. But then this animation cancelling with scouts should be considered cheating too.

Now imagine if those spears could have braced!

The bug with honed blades isn't that it's time increases with scholars (that's just keeps). Honed blades has 15x research time when it should be 5x as an age 3 research.

aaaand the Delhi spearmen being unable to brace and cancel cavalry charges makes a huge difference

I got a dumb question maybe lol... why don't you ever hear about AOE1 or 3? Like players are always coming from either warhammer or AOE 2?

You counter this by flaming relic on twitter until they finally fix bracing for delhi and HRE. Oh, and mangonels. Man, I was so sad to see our Chinese player not fixing his macro all game. Good job holding on for 40 minutes with a ~40% deficit in eco. Imagine all the extra bombards he could have had. So sad.

Finally, vengeance for Delhi

I think the Delhi military population bug is related to the tower war elephants. Probably the units riding the elephants count towards the military population.

For China, throw in hand cannon and grenadier to max explosive dmg and strengthen the comp. His walls were defensive with no economy macro.

The firelancer nest of bees combo is disgusting. The only counter i can think of are spearmen, a lot of springalds and prayers.

Sooo sick of playing agisnt this, basically if your playing them just rush/ raid the crap out of them, other wise your not going to win. I play a real skill civ not some donkey OP Nonsense.

springalds and spears who are actually not bugged i guess, fire lancers just get destroyed by spears.

I miss Leenock's performance in GSL. Good to see him back at AOE4

That comp is super strong but... that's about all Lee had going for him. Not the greatest strategist, let's say. On the other hand, Blue really should have been splitting more and sending in just a few spears ahead of the main force, to soak the charge damage.

The only reason fire lancers did well is because dehli spears bug meaning they cant brace and cancel the aoe damage on the charge. HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DOING THE AOE DAMAGE!

Man. That spesr bug hurts, or those fire lancers need a nerrf. Its crazy having that domoninace almost all game without walls, keeps and on 60 villagers...

Leenocks kill to death ratio will be insane. He basically vapourised 100s of enemy units.

Nest of bees and fire lancers can deal with most compositions but they don't do much against elephants. Bombards can kill elephants but elephants are faster. Leenok should have made some spears, he already had the blacksmith technologies for them.

this just shows how big the biggy spearmen are for dehli... those firelances should of been wrecked so many times had bracing worked properly

I guess use men at arms,save the wood and apply to light cav to counter nest of bees, slowly buy surely take out nest of bees until china runs out of gold. Use more scouts to see them comming for you with the hits. I wouldnt be able to stop this, but since this is pro players id imagine its not far fetched. Or better yet make a walltrain with units on top and watch cav and nest of bees do almost nothing

Near the end, he had to go for the less defended sacred site or he would have lost anyway.

Sure fire lancers are op but this was so dumb on Blue Elephants behalf. He knos his spearmen are bugged and can’t brace so why keep feeding the fire lancers? Just make other units or split them up. Fire lancers are so easy to counter and blue elephant did such a bad job.

On what you said about Delhi being the underdog civ, I would say Abbasid is mostly the underdog civ that people forget is in the game. Delhi is just the weird kid

I reckon compound of the defender would have been the better choice for castle age. since the men at arms were barely even used. Stone walls everywhere laugh at the firelancers. So fire lancers.. if you're building just one unit type isn't that an issue?

War elephants (the melee one) are still criminally underrated imho. They do better than tower elephants against fire lancers

fire lancers are gunpowder, atleast i feel that i have clearly seen the charge increase in range when u get pyrotechnics

Delhi player should have invested in war elephants earlier. They slaughter fire lancers and resist the AoE from them and Nest of Bees. If fire lancers ran away from them then even better as the elephants can simply march into base and destroy all the landmarks. Game lasted way longer than it should have.
