Just make sure performance is optimized. big problem with AoE:DE is fps really tanks when you zoom out even on the beefiest of PCs. not good for super competitive games

I imagine it shouldn't be as bad. AoE:DE has 3 different zoom sprites for everything. It seems like AoE2DE will have a single high quality render that you can zoom in and out of. This might explain the lower ram requirement when compared to the first DE.

Why would zoom not be used??? players will absolutely zoom all the way out to see as much of the battlefield as possible when they need to. And zoom in to micro as effectively as they need to. as it stands in AOEDE, zooming out TANKS fps to a crawl.

Paulo Villegas I think the way they are reworking the multiplayer aspect of the game there’s gonna be a lot less crashes and desyncs. I think they are removing player-to-player connection and instead replacing it with player-to-server (whatever that means, i’m certainly not an expert).

For everyone still thinking how buildings set on fire when attacked by swords.. it's a seige guys! The defenders inside the buildings start to panic when attacked, panic causes candles and loose flames to fall and thus causes the fire! It's simple logic!

Or the attackers would be lighting things on fire (arson is literally an upgrade name for infantry), plus fire arrows, bolts, oil covered projectiles, plenty of things that can cause fires

Is there anyway you could a few extra missions for William Wallace campaign that aren't learning missions? It's an amazing tale that deserves some tough missions. Falklands is great but limited and the rest aren't worth playing again.

I love it already! Just one slight criticism: From the gameplay I've seen so far, some of the game sounds - e.g. noises of horses, blades or the trebuchet firing - seem way too dominant to me. They used to blend in with the rest of the game very smoothly before, but now they are just dominating the scene to me.

Seriously excited about this! 20 years! I just turned 22 and I've played this game all my life from the original CD roms to HD and now definitive upon launch. Been one of the greatest games I've ever owned and been a key development in my life of gaming. Keep it up, cant wait to see what Definitive bring on board.

Yeah, that really worries me. I hope it's just the video recording that causes the lag, and that it's still playable on a few years old laptop (e.g. a Surface Pro 3). If it's like this video it would be barely playable for casual play.

@@Slektet Micro is already a part of AOE2 just look at pros with siege micro, I feel that with all the updates they should make it so the units can move freely in any angle of movement. Not the standard 8, make it feel more modern and pathing be so much cleaner

So excited for this, thought of everything! One small nitpick I have noticed with AOE2 (and HD) is that game info (e.g unit created) is NOT separate from player chat, which is especially annoying for long diplomacy games. Perhaps these could be separated and perhaps, make it easier to talk to one specific player.

This is SO BEAUTIFUL to see! And I don't mean only because the game itself looks beautiful, but I mean because there's such a lack of great RTS games out there and this is something we've been needing so bad. I really hope this is a complete success because I'd love to see the rebirth of true RTS games again. I saw that AOE Definitive Edition just launched on Steam, I'm gonna grab that one too!

Please make people with older versions (such as Rise of the Rajas) be able to cross-play with Definitive edition (and possible future expansions) as well as update the older versions too because it would be sad if the people playing older versions who dont buy the newer versions would just be ignored while the people always buying the newest versions regularly recieve updates and balance changes and older expansion players are stuck with a possibly unbalanced version and cant play with other players as most by that time will be playing DE.
