To be fair to Edward, that particular trebuchet was actually the Warwolf, so he must've spent another 800 wood and 400 gold just to unlock it. I too would be disappointed if I spent a total of 1000 wood and 600 gold on a super weapon just to see my foes surrender before I could see it in action.

I always wish the modern gaming business can turn into good educational system as well. The first Counterweight Trebuchet was first noted in Germany: the Chinese ones were traction trebuchets, and thus the biggest one could only manage a 60 kilo stone shot around 75 meters. This is half the weight of Warwolf's shot, and a bit over 1/3 of the distance. In point of fact, the Chinese figure isn't that diffrent from what the Greeks recorded what walls should be able to handle, though in practice, cities were lucky to be about half as suffciently thick.

They were there for higher performance, not for aiming. You want the counterweight to drop straight downwards to deliver potential energy faster than if it swings down in an arc. Wheels help in that, since whole treb moves forward on wheels, around the dropping counterweight. You get considerably more energy transferred.

its a magnificent machine, using only gravity to propel a projectile. No chemicals and no springy(fragile) stuff needed. It's hightech in a sense really. I would even dare to say that every homeowner with a big garden needs one of this.

Trebuchet means Siege weapon. The first Ballista were created in Rome and Greece as well as Onagers (Torsion catapults/Trebuchets) The first catapults/Trebuchets were Traction catapults/Trebuchets , Mangonels that originated in China. That technology made its way to the west and in 1100AD France the Mangonel was evolved into a completely different beast , this is the pendulum Trebuchet that we know and love today. These enormous engines of war was first used by the Frankinsh Crusaders ,retaking the Holy Land and by the 3rd crusade the Mongols whom were allied to the Crusaders adopted the technology (as they always did) and took it east towards China, thus in the 1300's AD the siege engine came full circle, leaving China as a Mangonel and returning as a Trebuchet. History is fascinating.

No, the minoans were using traction catapults on their ships as far back as 1700 BC. The romans also developed mangonels at roughly the same time as china in 400 BC.

I might nevre play this installment in the series but I did finish my humongous realistic map of the western hemisphere for Age of Empires 2 HD I did a video on. All of America minus Alaska, and all of Africa, all of Japan and much more is included. Trade across the Pacific Ocean is very profitable beause of how vast the distances are in this game. Feels almost... real. I took 5 months to do it with attention to detail.

Now we can rotate the camera, finally. But the scale of the buildings still bothers me. 3 things that still bother me: torches, physics of the boats and their graphics, reflection on water etc. and the scale of the buildings. If they fix these 3 things, for me it's already good. And I prefer the first atmosphere (that can be seen in the first trailer), was more vivid and had more colours to it. Now the atmosphere has a morbid design, and all the buildings look the same in colour. Everything is gray and dark blue.
