Something that saved me A LOT of time is the fact that if you have a mangonel and a trebuchet in, say group 2, if you press 2, then ctrl click on the trebuchet icon in the bottom, you can tell only your trebuchets to do whatever.
When making buildings if you could hit tab to switch between the different ages building grids that would be really helpful for the times you hit the wrong age button.
I just came to see if the game went back to grid building, My ocd hated aoe3 for it. Happy i went back... also, back to diamond worlds rather than circles.
You touched on the problems with the "select all military units" hotkey, which I like to use a lot with Delhi. I encounter the same problem you did as Mongols when I don't want my scholars traveling with the army. However, with everything selected you can see the different unit types you have selected on the bottom left- if you hold shift and select a unit type in the panel down there, it will take them out of the units you have selected while keeping the rest. Hopefully that makes sense. In terms of what I'd like to see added, they need the "jump to..." and "select all of..." for buildings that they have in AOE2 DE. The F keys don't include all the upgrades or military units when they're selected. And if you're not building all your building types in one place, it can be hard to find/ remember where they all are to add them to a control group. There also aren't enough control groups for everything.
F1 selects all your military buildings (+monastery and military landmarks) in a group, by default you can use tab to cycle through them if you want to train a specific unit, F2 selects all your economic/resource drop off buildings so you can easily view your missing upgrades, F3 selects all your upgrade buildings (university and blacksmith), F4 selects all your landmarks
In aoe 2 Ctrl plus v gives castle . But this is not available in aoe 4 how set aoe 2 keys Such as Ctrl plus A archery range Ctrl plus b barrack Ctrl plus l stable these are aoe 2 keys not available in aoe 4
I think the following function "Return all villagers to work (from seek shelter) is very good having it in one key. For me works very fast having it on Caps Lock
Still No PAUSE Hotkey.....not cool....i like using pause in single player to regroup and cycle thru eco and military commands bc sometime my micro isnt very good....this needs to be fixed imo...
Main reason I'm watching this is.. thought every important building has it's own letter on the keyboard to select it. It's a surprise that is not the case... I think StarCraft had that ... if I remember it right. I'm a casual AOE player and playing hard diffictulty campaign ... funny enough I am at a mission that I cant get over how fast the AI sends new attacks against my settlement so I figured I have to get into the needy-greedy with the hotkeys to teach it a lesson. I know many complained that the Campaign is too easy even on Hard, I don't know if they increased difficulty slightly since then, as the game is out for a good while now, or... Im just too much of a casual player and all those complaints came from AOE veterans (1,2 ,3). But yea, as I mentioned I'm surprised not every military building has its letter for fast select.
So working off what you did i just added some extra binds, like select all idle villages i have as control + space. and i think another good idea is to use your other mouse button for control group 8 and perhaps using it for your military producing buildings that gives you 1,2,3,4,5 for unit groups. shot for the vid. I also noticed you unbound cycling through units, i would suggest keeping that on tab, especially useful for cycling through military producing buildings that are all on one hotkey
AOE3 players get rekt the most. I used to use T for town center and V for villager. So press TV to get villies. With these keys put into grid I now have to use HQ to make vills with is really awkward as these keys are far off. H for town center.
Why don't you Instead of setting it to '9' set the mouse button to 'h' so when you have multiple town centers you can cycle through each one? For those of you without a configurable mouse, 'h' isn't that difficult to press anyhow.
I actually use crtl group 9 for all TCs as well cause I set each ttc's really point individually using H but then I can keep pumping vils out all together using 9
Thanks Fitz really helped. Just wondering how people quickly add farms around a mill for example. I see people place a mill and then bang bang in no time there is a full grid of farms around it instead of you clicking each one in its correct location. Thanks
Yea my problem is that I need to click escape to back out of the grid sub menu, but then make sure I don’t click it too many times or i deselect the vill! So just click it once right? Nope woops you had a building key selected, so you needed to click escape exactly twice. Escape should back out of the building selection and the submenu in one click. And that way escape twice always deselects.
There should be an option to use hotkeys in the old way like in Age of Myhology... I don't have to use only the grid as an option... It would be easier for me when i use a Villager and just press one hotkey and it put the armory etc. straight away. I hope for patches and mods...
@@huseyin8751 Well, that's for "all military buildings". Is it possible to select for example "all stables". Or do you need to make a control group to do that?
@@LoxG When you have all military buildings selected, you'll notice the groups down the bottom left. Press tab to cycle through those groups and build/train from each type of building.
Yeah I can't do it. When I first started PC gaming the arrows is all I knew and was fine with it but once I started playing FPS and such and WASD became standard for me I cannot go back. There are a few times I can do it depending what type of game is when WASD movement isn't really used a ton but other than that I have to change it.
Bind them to control groups. Probably have all your military buildings in a single control group, because once they're all selected you can press tab to cycle through the selections. Makes using the keyboard for all of them really easy.
@@FitzBroYes, that's true. I started experiencing the same. Wish I could remap the Alt key, every time I use it to pan, the mouse changes the camera angle.
dude the entire game setting is annoying af. even the camera is annoying. You tryna select a bunch of army real quick, but if some infantry are outside of the screen or on the edge of the screen it will move the camera including the selecting square. you can't zoom out enough. what a deception. if you have workers doing nothing all across the map, I don't even know if it's possible to select all of them. Devs are clearly not playing the game.
By default, if you press and hold your mouse scroll wheel you can then drag to scroll the map. You'll probably want to increase the scroll speed for side scrolling and middle mouse scrolling in the settings. If you have a low eDPI, it can be tedious to side scroll. This is advise from a Starcraft 2 thread: For extreme movements, click the minimap. For moderate movements, side scroll. For minute movements, middle mouse.
