I think you will find that the automation is really meant for new players. Any old player wouldn't even touch it. My son who has younger aged children thinks this will be great to help them get into the game. As for the renewable god powers, I always wanted this as using them once was not fun. If they do it right, it will not impact the game too much, just change your strategies a bit! ;)
In a perfect world both would coexist In a better world, AoM would kill AoE4 In reality, it will probably just be the new hot thing for a month and then have its own small dedicated community
Age of Empires 4 is an amazing and modern game. AoM will get a retouch... but its still an old game at its core. Everybody will buy it for the campaign and the noatalgia. Not for competitive pvp
Been playing AOM since I was a kid. Along with other RTS games, AOE3, Battlezone 1/2 ect. All of them have their own feel that is for sure. I can see those from AOE4 coming over to check it out it, some may stay, and some may go back and visit from time to time. At the end of the day we play the games we know and love, and I hope those who have not experienced AOM come to at least enjoy it! As for the esports side if it, I don't pay attention to that stuff besides back when I played SC2 lol
Hopefully it will kill 4. Would rather have aom which was actually built with passion and creativity have a large player base over age 4 which just feels like the safest most calculated product with 0 cool art style or flavor.
AoE4 and AoM games are completely different RTS games. They will complement each other well on the market and I for one, will be playing both actively.
I don't mind automation. Honestly, nobody using that feature will win the game in high level play so I think it's good for beginners. The more people we have the better!
I stopped playing Age 10 years ago. AOM was one of my favourite games in the early 2000. Saw the AOM Retold gameplays and now i'm reading forums and watching youtube channels. I'm absolutely shocked by how the community is still still so dedicated and passionate about this franchise. Just started playing AOE 4 on my xbox and i'm excited about AOM Retold. I felt so nostalgic when i watched the trailer that i just had to play Age again. Thanks for the content.
I was aoe IV player and I got bored, I felt more of the same, harass protect of harass, aom allow me to teleport, spawn trees, use mythologic units, use god powers, heroes, it`s soo much more dynamic, if I have difficult to economy I pick atlanteans, it`s a lot more fun. Much more space. The Age of Empires original developers wanted to do it in AOM way, but due to lack of technology they couldn`t.
Excellent analysis and well presented facts. First of all, I am 100% leaning on AoM. First game of my youth, sentimental value, I'll preorder everything. In my humble opinion, I do not believe for a second that AoMR will overthrow AoE4. AoMR will be a most magnificent firework. But like all fireworks, its glow will lessen by time sadly. Unless Microsoft decides to cut the feeder from AoE4 and funnel all their resources to AoM retold. A bold move, but why take the risk for a game that's literally a glowy version of the old one? I can estimate that AoMR will gain a status like AoE2 definitive edition. Due to a significant playerbase, it will receive updates support, patching etc, but it will stay in the shadow of AoE4. Why though? Because AoE 4 was created to become the future of the RTS games. And it doesn't have to do about a best selling DLC, but because of its limitless possibilities. It has been established as a new "sample" unlike the other games. Constant updates and changes, seasons, focusing on the competitive side. Moreover, judging from the interviews of the developers they seem to focus on 2 things. 1) Making the game more accessible to everyone 2) making it fun to play. That's great for making a game earn revenues in short term, but not a viable option when trying to create a solid competitive scenery. To conclude, only if the majority of the playerbase decides to shift in supporting AoMR's competetive scene and ditches the other games, will Microsoft consider boosting the hell out of it. But usually a competitive playerbase is formed by the game's inception, like AoE4 did and not the other way around. It only remains to be seen. I'd love that though, since it's my favourite game of all times!
Very keen to see this game in a modern e-sports context. This was one of my favourite games in the 00's and only recently discovered that it never actually died and for it's age is still thriving. I really really hope this breathes new life and lets it be the game it always deserved to be in terms of popularity
Honestly I played AoM recently a fair bit, and I really just could not find myself getting into it. It feels very strongly like 'AoE2 with fantasy elements', which I'm sure is great for some and I hope people have a blast with it. I do agree that I wish AoE4 got more comp support, its just such a fun game
It comes down to the next aoe4 expansion. They most likely will announce it in August. Hopefully it will introduce Spanish and Aztec civs with their own campaign and have great gameplay mechanics. I remember seeing a post that would be a great landmark idea for the Aztecs where you do villager sacrifices for temporary buffs. Something like the Malians Griot Bara age 4 landmark that gives 3 different type of buffs. But in relation to the Aztecs it could be a tier buff system of how many villagers sacrificed.
On Xbox, the villager priority system allows you to turn it off, and also to create custom priority wheels on the fly, which is very handy. I've never used the prebuilt priorities, but I've constantly created custom distributions.
use Tab to select commander , when you hear he is damaged, and never overwflow your metal, and send metal to buy t2 earlier, it means you send 400 metal to your allied person, you have a lot of metal on stock
you dont use space as priority que command, and as well you dont use F as fight command for units, and maybe you forgot energy storage before you moved your commander out
I THINK AOE4 IS KILLING ITSELF ALREADY XD (so why asking other games to kill aoe4?...) AGE OF MYTHOLOGY RETOLD IS JUST A REMAKE OF ANA AMZING OLD GAME :) many but many will be there once its launched and LATER we will see if we stay or not, please dont make this nonsense division, about aoe2, 3, 4 aom... At the end the best game will show the numbers :3
Age of Mythology has been a big part of my childhood and I absolutely loved it. However, I do not think that it is going to take away much from Age of Empires 4. Both are really good games and both are worth playing. Just because there is a new game doesn't mean you have to abandon the other one.
I played age of mythology since it came out it was one of my first game experiences In my life. I can honestly say it won't affect aoe4. Aom and AOE are like how call of duty and halo coexist. They are both great and there's room for both I'm sure I'll play Aom exclusively for like a month but after that il be back to rotating between AOE and aom and whatever else
Thats because the online is really laggy and it looks ugly compared to AoE 2 and AoE 4 and it has the Chinese expansion that everyone hates. Retold should fix all that.
AOM: Retold really needs to be 100% ready at launch otherwise there is no future for this game... I am super curioius for the second DLC with the new secret civ...
There were basic features missing in AOE 4 at launch because Relic is not exactly a massive company and they were risk spreading by developing AOE 4 and COH 3 simultaneously. At the end both games suffered from this
I hate AOE4 I refunded the beta when they insisted on not allowing me to zoom out as much as all the other games, after it was the NUMBER ONE feedback item from the beta testers (adjusting it an indiscernible amount doesn't count). I hope it dies completely and all players go into the other aoe games. As far as which 'pros' will play, the fewer the better, mid ELO games are much more fun to watch anyway. AOM has always been my favorite RTS, although I haven't played it since AOE2DE came out. I now play AOE3 DE exclusively, but will switch to AOM when it comes out.
Most people leave comments based on the title. Heck, I know I did, although my comment was responding more to the title _itself_ than the content the title implied. It's all engagement for the algorithm!
I hope they will use Retold as a platform for testing catering towards co-op, special scenarios, gamemodes and challenges. Microsoft is kind of competing with itself in the RTS genre and Age of Empires 4 is big on ranked seasons and I wish they'd include more for casual players like me who enjoy campaign and PvE. And what both games lack is missions for co-op. It's just a hope. I think they could draw in a lot of players by selling the game as a PvE focused RTS where you can play missions with your friends. (Of course I also want the classic campaign to be played in singleplayer too)
MY GREAT QUESTION PERSONALLY CAUSE AOM IS MY BEST GAME SINCE SCHOOL BUT IAM MAIN IN AOE4 NOW SO IT WILL BE A HARD DECISION TO ME TO WHICH I SHOULD COMMIT MOST
