Age of Wonders 4 | Evil Toad Creation and Gameplay 

I really enjoyed seeing the city develop over the first twenty turns. I was curious about how quickly you could potentially move through the empire/affinity skills, so see that play out over the first twenty turns was quite informative

I really miss the unit descriptions, especially for monsters and such :(

@@emilsoderman3691 Seconded. Hopefully just tucked away somewhere; if they had to be sacrificed due to the new race creation and enchantment mechanics, that would be a bit of a shame.

The game looks absolutely stunning. Also really liked seeing the holy troops, the necromancy and the cool new systems. I can already imagine the stories and factions i want to make

Age of Wonders 4 Baldurs Gate 3 Warhammer: Rogue Trader Starfield (Hogwarts Legacy) Finally a good year of gaming

In the RPG game, Legend of the Five rings, has actually my favourite version of this. And it only works because one may be familiar with the original. In that, it ends almost the same way. The scorpion stings the frog and the frog ask why, now the both will surely down. But the Scorpion replies it can swim. Showing, one should be careful about judging someone nature. Again, this story really only works if you have known the original one. But I think is a nice twist on do not judge a book by it cover. This is also related to one of the major clans in the game you play as is the Scorpion clan. Which on the surface is all known for backstabbing and deception. But there is generally some hidden motive behind it all, to protect the nation. Despite what they're known for, they still have never fallen to corruption. And corruption is a true physical taint in the setting that can slowly eat away on your very soul.

Well if the scorpion is raised from the dead than it's nature has changed and such treachery is no longer possible

I think too, cause it kinda refraines the snowballing in the late game a bit.

@@corentinbaumann3393 It also just eliminates awkward time spent stalling a fight to get extra turns to use healing powers. I don't have to feel like I'm not playing optimally by cheesing.

@@jacobharman443 I think it promotes cannon-folder gameplay. From tomes that have been shown, it seems a lot of tomes continue some form of summoning. what is the point in having 20 hp over-heal if you can summon a unit and just send to front-line as suicide unit to tank attacks? I think their approach makes healing pretty useless. I think they could kept it as real hp but the healing done in combat starts off as temp hp and if you engage a fight, the temporal hp disappears. Temporal hp is converted into real hp at 33% rate. This means you need wait 3 turns out of combat for heal take place. At least then, there is reason to use reactive spells over just using proactive spells that do same thing but stronger.

Goats or Rams? Either would be cool.

their first DLC is named Dragon Dawn. Although it's not priced as much as the 2 expansions, so it's probably a race pack/dlc or maybe even a new affinity 'Draconic' with their dragon themed spells and dragon knights etc..

These are the basic mounts, we've already seen Nightmares & Spiders from the Traits and a Wyvern in some of the screenshots. You'll be finding more impressive mounts as rewards it seems.

Have you been fighting nothing but Draconian Flamers/Apprentices, Dreadnought Cannon/Juggernauts/Flame Tanks or Tigran Sphinxes? Splash damage is not that common for pretty much everyone else in AoW3. And spells in 2/Shadow Magic that target the whole battlefield will hit all of your units anyway, no matter how far they spread out.

@@R17inator quite a decent chunk of Others aswell, different breath weapons, Fireworks, aoe debuffs Just to Name a couple. Its way worse in age of Wonders Planetfall.

@@Jewus19 Yeah all the grenades and rockets in planetfall make it tough to clump up except when you are Kir'ko

I'm sort of curious myself, I liked AoW3 and Planetfall well enough but they never unseated Shadow Magic as my favorite. I'm pretty sold on the gameplay so far, but I'd love to see more of the story. They've stated in the Dev Diaries they wanted a bigger focus on story this time around, and from what little I've seen they definitely do seem to be thinking about the lore so I am hopeful at least. I think the Valley of Wonders is one of the story realms so we'll definitely see Athla again in the campaign, probably for the beginning and dramatic climax I'd guess. Arctica, Karissa, Fangir, and Ham are all on the premade leader list too so we've some returning characters. Apparently you can unlock additional realms through gameplay, so it possible there's other returning leaders as well who get added to list later. I also saw that the Ice Queen realm setting sets up Arctica as the supercharged big boss of the realm with her army automatically having the Frostling enchantments applied. I believe it was mentioned in one of the dev diaries too that returning characters in the campaign would actually act according to their personality (In random maps they'd use the standard AI instead), so presumably it'd be things like Julia would be a diplomatic peace maker, Yaka would be a conquering pyromaniac, etc. They brought back the branching campaign from AoW1 in AoW3 too, so that's presumably coming back as well. Fun tidbit I noticed though since you like the lore. I don't think you can see on this stream, but for the "High" culture the special ability it your units changes based on your alignment with Evil in particular granting a big power boost. I don't know if they plan on exploring anything about that in the campaign, but it seems to be a nod to the mysterious fall of the Archons/High Men in AoW3.

The latter is definitely yes, in the first gameplay video they turned the terrain to snow with magic.
