Just...Joe from accounting...Also, throwing someone without manager experience into one to start and entire generation seemsl ike a bad idea too. And then throwing OTHER talents at them seems like an insult to those talents. Of course Man #3 isn't gonna pay attention to her.

honestly, this v&u situation, the more i read into it, feels closer to a wactor-like problem than nijisanji-like, despite the them seeming similar on the surface. - nijisanji's just greedy, with a control freak manager or two on the en side. they screwed around with sayu, but after their public mishandling of dokibird's termination backfired horribly, they eventually dropped the crap and shut up, and even with sayu they never actually sued her despite iiuc threats to do so. - v&u openly stated they plan to pursue legal action against alienmixture, claiming charges that outright don't exist. it's a brazen attempt at billing fraud and could get people within v&u arrested. and while south korea doesn't take worker rights seriously, they do take fraud seriously.

Honestly, sounds like someone mistranslated something. A word to companies - if you want to work with English speaking talents, retain a lawyer that lives in the same country as the talent (and speaks the same language) to look over contracts, preferably one who speaks your own language. A word to talents - if you want to work for a foreign company, hire a lawyer that speaks their language as well as your own. Yes, its the same advice - but its SO IMPORTANT because translation loses nuance that relying on translated documents is a BAD idea. We've seen this many times with Japanese companies (Nijikuro's document for example), as well as Korean companies and the occasional Chinese company that breaks out of the country and doesn't speak English.

@@greed-1914 I'm gonna give you the answer, Translation Memory. A different contract document with similar language resulting in a fuzzy match, the translation assistance software then provided the translation for the other contract to speed up the TL process of this document (while highlighting the differences), and the people who responsible for the translation/editing/proofreading was/were distracted by the other differences and missed the number (or they just didn't even realize that it was a fuzzy match and not a 100% match and didn't even touch that part).

If a company gives you a price on how much you have to pay them, but then takes a week to compile the receipts then they are lying. How could you have gotten that initial price if you hadn't already compiled the receipts and necessary information? It's cause you made up a number and then had to forge the information.

From what can be understood, they originally were indeed ''doing a Niji'', or rather what is common in SK, pumping out idol groups and hoping one would get popular. She somehow blew up, so they got very happy and was hoping to bank on her achievements. But she was told by her doctor to take a break, and she did, which is a bad thing for the company. So they casually reprimanded her for not destroying herself working her ass off like the good worker/slave she shouldve been, not realising that she was not korean and not inclined to follow their work culture. This lead to her wanting to leave, and them deciding whatever you can go but wait. It also appears that they werent making enough revenue. So they delayed the announcement, and even did a niji by smearing her name on the way out. The PR announcement have quite a few holes, but it is at least better written than what Niji released for the various terminations they did. The invoice is suspicious, even if its not all of their operating cost it must at least be part of it. Considering they literally are charging her for other employee's expenses.

Wait, so Serafi's contract expired in Sept of last year. Is that the real reason she wasn't paid for Nov or Dec and the punitive action was just a convenient excuse to justify it? I think V&U was scamming some cash and content out of someone they *knew* was not their employee/contractor anymore.

using the punitive excuse could put them in hot water according to US labor laws though, since that is completely illegal to do in the US. However, they couldn't say "your contract expired" because then they couldn't then hold her anymore. I hope V&U gets taken down, and completely wrecked.

Not surprised by the fact that they had issues with a game(s) with things during those games. Yelling at her like she "promotes" it but left the vods up... Kind of sounds like they were "trying" to scare (read it as harassment) her into folding up shop and quitting or other things. Had a job do that to me before. Claimed I broke rules, claimed I harassed customers, claimed I broke stuff etc etc but never fired me or give me suspensions. Toxic work environment doesn't begin to state the obvious shitty standards. Happens more often than I thought... or figured. Glad she's out and super glad she found out about what happened to Doki and got help.

My sister’s first job claimed she stole money from them and lied to them….because she got hurt on the job from a shoe falling on her head. I think they claimed it didn’t hit her, but she literally went to the doctor to make sure it wasn’t a concussion (the two of us are surprisingly prone to concussions). She quit, but still. as a Chinese, the VU situation is common in Asia, people in the West believe that Hololive is the golden standard, some even say that it should be the minimum, but in reality, Niji is actually the standard, holo is the outlier, VU can only be considered a little harsh, for example, vtuber group in China called Asoul which is also reported before by False, Asoul pays their talent like 0.4% from SC donation, talents practiced too much got injured.

The watch isn't that outrageous given the look, assuming that the build quality matches. Really, all of the expensive items seem to be built to order (they don't make it until you order it), look to be high quality, and really for the backpack... that's in line with a high quality or brand named bag (Timbuk2 for example). Lastly... the collab is with a boutique merch company that only does the high end it seems. The acrylic standee is not that expensive, but everything on else on their site is high priced. (That standee was the cheapest thing I saw on their site.) They're fishing for whale sharks, not sand sharks.

Supergroupie items have always been expensive af. They also are know for collabroating with some of the biggest franchises in JP (Kingdom Hearts and Fate are ones I can list off the top of my head). So honestly kinda amazing that Hololive is at a level where it can get a collab like this The cost mainly comes from brand recognision, the same way a tshirt can cost 4x more just for having a famous brand logo on it. This merch isnt for the casual fan, but for the higher earning individual who want to flaunt their fandom love subtly and in style. Its sucks for Gura fans sure, i get it. But this is more of a Hololive collab and Gura is the face of the company at this point so the merch was designed around her base model.

i feel like the super groupies merch is aimed at a different intended consumer base. many fans are on the 'broke-gang' poor side, but some are real whales with a bunch of money, and it seems aimed more at them. theres plenty of other merch, so I'm fine with it being outside my budget since other things are clearly more priced and aimed at me

Not Surprised for V&U getting scummy like this against Amano Serafi. It's not a well known issue as S.Koreans who especially live in the cities have some prejudice and anti sentiment against foreigners as S.Korea opened their job market for foreigners. It's just that most people have very picky work demands and some have mismatched educational background to the current job demand then foreigners fill those positions and then S.Koreans raging that opened positions are taken up by foreigners. Having experience this myself though I can say there are still good companies in S.Korea so people should do a background check to a company their are applying to or joining in to especially when going abroad. For V&U they should just let things go as they may collapse as a company if they push through their demands and lawsuit.

Super Groupies is a reputable source but their quality is 50/50 on if the price is worth it. Got shoes once and they were great but also the Vash the Stampede jacket which was super cheap.

The Gura merch being made to order, the prices aren’t *super* overpriced in my opinion. But they are high. Moreso for the backpack and jacket than the watch. There must be some supply chain or manufacturing reason for them to be that high. I wonder if their other merch is usually that high.

For the record, the Gawr Gura merch IS too expensive and i say that as a fan, but this is a specific partnership and not "the shape of things to come" the product is high end, its been done because she's now essentially one of the key faces of hololive having the most subscribers... i refer you back to Gundam - Gunpla and their limited edition perfect grade Unicorn in steel black crossover with a shoe company that ended up being $4000+ in the JP market.. never mind what a retailer would have to slap on in import and taxes if it were made available outside Japan... Some people want these status symbols.. just leave them to it... if you're one of them, fair play, but if you're not .. just carry on, buy the normal merch or none at all, no ones forcing you.. not really news worthy as a problem IMO.

Considering Gura's fanbase still contains normie holdovers from the pandemic quarantine vtuber boom era, not all of the chumbuds are knowledgeable about these brands and what kind of pricing to expect from them. If Gura was their first vtuber and oshi, I can see them getting the wrong idea about this being for all fans and not from a luxury boutique type of seller. Most of them are likely only familiar with the pricing through Holo's own store, which is more reasonably priced for the general fan wanting to rep some Gooba gear. That being the case, it actually probably is news worthy, though I wish False included the context you've mentioned here so the less accustomed fans don't waste their time complaining about it lol

He literally pulled the contract he read, courtesy of Alien Mixture from the looks, since it was A SIGNED CONTRACT including the company's Stamp (Asia's thing, most countries with that custom of an Official stamp for signing documents have strict laws about it, including misuse of it). You probably F'ed super duper hard if LM decides he has the right to make a Signed contract public on his stream to explain how you done and F'ed up big time.

With the Gura merch stuff, I can understand the watch being more expensive. Nice watches can cost quite a bit. I do not understand why the jacket is $230, though. There is not a single piece of clothing worth that much in my opinion, especially not a jacket. I don't care who is on it or who made it. Also, that V&U story is insane. It's wild how much these companies think they can get away with simply because most people wouldn't be willing to lawyer up and fight back against this stuff.

Maybe there could be a collective where vtubers pay into. It can include agency and indie vtubers paying in. It should grant them access for contract reviews as well as legal representation in these disputes.
