No words about this rare treasure. As mom was explaining, i could imagine the house full of life.. Men in their businesses, women their chores, young ones running around, noises from outside. What a life.. House looked smaller on the outside.. but it kept going on and on.. What an architecture..it would cost a fortune to build now.. Just wish the video had more light. Thank you for sharing.
Am seeing this video now, even though it's been posted years back. But I am very glad and lucky to have chanced upon this at least today. One has to have accumulated lot of "punya" in our past lives to have lived in such an amazing house ! I read through all the comments, and there is a common thread of nostalgia, longing, "I wish I too were part of those golden days..." feelings running right through all the folks who have commented. Only goes to show that those of us who have not had the chance to have lived in such a fantastic house, but wish to, need to start doing a lot of good things in this life at least to accumulate enough punya points to be blessed with a chance of ownership/rental of such a house in our next birth. We need to take solace in the fact that we have at least accumulated a very tiny amount of punya to have got the chance to at least see such a video and experience living there in our mind's eye ! Those of us who dream to own such a house have to do a lot of good deeds to be blessed to own such a wonderful place in our next life. In my humble opinion, it's just not possible to build a new house like this anymore. That kind of wood is long gone, those kind of masons, carpenters, artisans who worked with passion, dedication and pride in creating something so fantastic are also unfortunately long gone too, and the engineering skills and techniques of those golden yesteryears are just not there anymore. Such a pity. Those attitudes, that passion, that pride in one's work is not something that is measurable in money terms and, sadly, those are NOT the yardsticks of richness of our country any more ! Pity !! I pray to God to give Maami and her family good health and peace of mind always.
Amma and Anna kannu pada pogudu dishti sotti podunga. Always "OLD IS GOLD". In this 21st century everything is so fast, everybody wants everything very quick and fast. So many of us don't know the values of the traditional things and their advantages. All the ancient things are disposed and kept in Museums, for us to just look at them. I feel that I'm so blessed to see you people living your life with these things. Our house according to me is a treasure to cherish and pass it to the future generations. I really appreciate your efforts in shooting this video and you have nothing to hide or no inhibitions to show the way your lives are. These days everyone want to live in an apartment or a villa in nuclear family, but I could relate to the values of a joint family very clearly. The pictures on the walls had an unique story to tell. And I love the method of rain water harvesting. Who said that our ancestors lived like nomads, it's we who have just vanished everything. They lived like royalty. The explanation about the ceiling was incredible Amma. And the animals in the farm were treated with lots of love and were considered one among the family was very clearly visible. I literally had tears in my eyes watching this. I just pray Almighty God to bless you and your family. 😙😁🤗

What an amazing house. I was born in palakkad in a similar house. My grandparents and uncles everybody moved to Mumbai soon after i was born so i never had a chance to spend time in that house. Its a visual treat to us apartment dwellers. Your videos are very interesting.

We had a agraharam house in tuticorin, but as all settled in different places couldn't maintain and agraharam started to occupy by other communities we sold it. But after watching this video felt why did we sold... Thanks for the video

Personally it would make me depressive after initial excitement of moving into a large house like that. It acts as constant reminder of how days have changed. I grew up in a place where there were 11 people once upon a time. Gradually it got reduced. Now,. just 2-3 people in such large house would be depressing. Just said.
கீதா மாமி, நான் மதுரையில் பிறந்து வளர்ந்தவள். அங்கே...என்னோட பாட்டி வீடு இதே மாதிரி தான் இருக்கும்...இதே மாதிரி கனமான கதவு....தாழ்வாரம், இருட்டு ரூம் (காமிரா உள் - னு சொல்வா) மரத்தால் தாழ்வாரம், உத்திரம்னு,,,,உங்க வீடு மாதிரியே ஒரு 100 வருடமோ அதுக்கு மேலயயோ பழைய வீடு.மொட்டை மாடி மேல ஏறி நின்னு பார்த்தால் மீனாக்ஷி அம்மன் கோயில் கோபுரம் அற்புதமாக தெரியும். கோவிலுக்கும் வீட்டுக்கும் இடைப்பட்ட தூரம் ஒரே கிலோமீட்டர் தான். இருபத்தி நான்கு ஆண்டுகள் நடந்து நடந்து தேய்ந்த கால்கள்....மதுரை மண்ணில்...கோவிலைத் தவிர வேறு எதுமே தெரியாது. கோவிலைச் சுற்றி சுற்றி வருவதில் தான் ஆனந்தம், அப்போதெல்லாம் அங்கே கிளிக் கூண்டு இருக்கும். நூற்றுக் கணக்கான கிளிகள் இருக்கும். கோவிலுக்குள் நுழைந்ததும் கிளிகளின் சத்தம் இனிமை...நாங்கள் அதன் அருகில் நின்று...மீனாட்சி மீனாட்சி என்று கத்துவோம்...அதுவும் சேர்ந்து சொல்லும் போது தாங்காத ஒரு சந்தோஷம். இருந்தும் என் வாழ்நாளில் கிட்டத்தட்ட 1000 முறைகள் மீனாட்சி தரிசனம் கொண்டிருப்பேன்..அது தான் நான் பெற்ற வரம்னு நம்பறேன்,. அந்த இனிமை நாட்களை வருடக் கணக்கில் கடந்து வந்து விட்டோம்.தமிழ் நாட்டை விட்டு ஆந்திராவில் வாழ்க்கை. இயந்திர மயமான மாயாலோகம். பழையன எதுவுமே கண்ணில் படாத கோலம். மனத்துள் என்றுமே அந்தப் பழைய இனிமையான நாட்கள் அடங்கி கிடக்கும் .பாடி சொல்லுவா, பின்கட்டில் பசு மாட்டுக் கொட்டில் இருந்தது...பாலக் கறந்து தான் காப்பின்னு. ம்ம்..இப்போல்லாம் அந்த பாட்டில் பாலைக் கூட கண்ணில் பார்க்க முடியலையே.பிளாஸ்டிக் பாலில் தானே காப்பி.!எனது மாமாக்கள் அந்த பாரம்பரிய வீட்டை விற்று பாகம் பிரித்து ஃபிளாட் வீட்டுக்குள் அடங்கி விட்டார்கள். அந்த வீட்டையும் இடித்து கடைகளாக மாற்றி விட்டார்கள். நான் பிறந்ததே....என் அக்கா தம்பிகள், மற்றும் பல குழந்தைகள் பிறந்ததே அந்த வீட்டில் தானாம். பாரம்பரிய வீடு சுவடு தெரியாமல் அழிந்து போனது.இதோ உங்கள் வீட்டைப் பார்த்துப் பார்த்து , தங்களின் அந்த பதவிசு, வீட்டோடு தங்களுக்கு இருக்கும் அந்த அன்னியோன்யம்....பார்க்கும் போது மனம் ஏன் பாட்டி வீட்டை நினைத்துப் பார்த்தது. சம்பந்தப் படுத்திப் பார்த்து நெகிழ்ந்தது. இந்தக் காணொளி ஒரு பொக்கிஷம் எனக்கு. அந்த வீட்டின் வாசம் என்னோடு பேசியது. மிக்க நன்றிகள். தொட்டிலில் போட்டிருந்தது மட்டும் என் மனதை வருத்தப் படுத்தியது. மற்றபடி உங்கள் வீடு ஒரு பொக்கிஷம் தான். அன்புடன், ஜெயஸ்ரீ ஷங்கர்.

I can see the year 1925 in one of the wood work. What an outstanding building, hopefully built with mud, which stands as an evidence of our traditional architecture. I will die to live in a house like this. Waiting for your next part.

There is a Karathayar Palayam and a Sastha kovil at Mattancherry, where I spend a part of my childhood days. Probably a few people from this Karathayar Palayam had migrated and made a settlement in Cochin.

wow!! a traditional agraharam is worth a visit. I had an opportunity to visit my Valiyacchan's agraharam in Palaghat and another in East Fort Padmanabha Swamy Kshetram (Thiruvanthapuram), my father's friend's home. an awesome experience.
Azhagaana aham. Reminded me of my Athais house in kallidaikurichi and periappa 's house in Ambasamudram. Agraharam houses in Tirunelveli areas are the best and my favourite. Very elaborate and purposeful living spaces. This is a treasure

Very beautiful Ganesh!!. I am reminded of my patti's house at Valady in Trichy. Strangely they don't accumulate so much of cobwebs as we do in our homes these days.I wonder if they were due to the high ceilings along with the wooden reapers or due to the construction material they used. Also my pattis house had huge paintings on the walls, of Rishabharudar/Sri Ranganathar/Vennathazhi krishnar, in the vazhinadai.They still exist without much damage. There used to be nellukottai in the first floor and an opening on floor up to the ground floor to collect it below without having to struggle bringing the nellumuttai down,may be they were collected in gunny bags down as and when required.. My Tatta was a mirasdar. Thank you.
