This is my AGV Pista GP RR Carbon helmet in matte carbon. The Pista GP RR is AGV’s top of the line track helmet, and it’s a seriously focused piece of kit. The entire shell is made of carbon fiber, making the helmet one of the lightest on the market.
This AGV Pista GP RR helmet isn’t designed for everyday use, let’s get that out of the way. The ventilation is lacking, especially at low speeds, and you can’t plug all the vents in the colder weather. In terms of comfort, its comfortable enough to wear for a session at the track. Come off after your session, and put it on top of a fan to dry off. That’s about it. You do not want to put serious mileage on this helmet. The visor is tad flimsy, and only works fully open or fully closed really.
So why pay the premium for this helmet? Because it is entirely made of carbon fiber, the helmet is extremely light weight. Because of the shape of the helmet and spoiler, it has stability at speed that no other helmet has. If you are doing over 70 MPH, you don’t feel this helmet on your head. If you are doing over 125+ MPH, this thing is rock solid stable. The field of view from this helmet is impeccable. And that’s what you want at the track. Lightweight, comfortable enough, great field of vision, and stable in the tuck at high speed. And the Pista GP RR checks all those boxes.
If you want an everyday helmet, that you can wear comfortably for long rides and occasionally use at the track...this isn’t the lid. Go look at a different helmet. This helmet doesn't provide the amount of padding/cushion needed for all day riding, that's not what its made for. If you plan on doing really high speed riding, and want a helmet that isn’t going to “shake” around from the wind...this IS that helmet. Which makes it a perfect track only helmet.
Looks wise, this helmet is super choice. It has an angular, aggressive look and I really dig it. I appreciate the lack of branding/logos all over the lid. Just two simple AGV logos on the front and back, let everyone know what brand this helmet is. The carbon weave on this helmet is exceptional. It is utterly perfect, and looks amazing in the flesh.
What you want, and what you need are two very different things. Do you need this helmet? Most likely, no. Do you want this helmet? Who doesn’t? Its got sinister looks, exposed carbon fiber, and it’s not a walking advertisement with branding allover. This helmet is understated in every way, except one. And that’s in it looks fast AF.
