AGV X-101:
The AGV X101 is now joining the likes of the AGV X3000 and AGV X70 to complete the Legends retro helmet collection. This means AGV are now coming with retro offerings for full face, jet, and off road riders so that you can complete your look in almost any major riding segment. The X101 gets its retro look from the helmets used in the Dakar rallies of the 70s and 80s, but it still enjoys all the benefits of modern safety and helmet construction. So, while you’re getting this classic shell shape, stylized logo, and vent design, the helmet still uses a fiberglass shell in 3 outer shell sizes, and it is ECE 22.05 certified. Overall, the X101 will be coming at a recommended retail price of about 330 Euros, or about 390 USD. This means that the helmet will be competing with other retro offerings such as the Shoei Ex-Zero, Shoei Glamster, and the Arai Concept-X.

Just had mine delivered from these guys (UK) I’m really pleased with this helmet. I actually have both the x70 and an x3000 already. I ordered a M, and it fits perfectly. For comparison My x3000 is an ML (the MS was too small for me). I’m impressed with the quality and quietness and it feels a lot lighter than the Moto 3 in my opinion. Champion were really helpful and communicative, especially as my order crossed over with ‘Brexit’ coming in. AGV goggles fit is great also.

Cool vide what i wonder is are those vintage models also safe like for example a premium helmet?

All quality retro helmets produced today must be ECE 22.05 certified. This means that they have all passed a basic level of safety testing required of all helmets. Additionally, the X101 is an AGV helmet, a company known for quality helmets. However, that being said, it's also important to keep in mind that most retro helmets place style above function so you may miss some safety features that you see in more advanced helmets such as emergency release cheek pads. So, with more options available now than before, it depends on how many features you're willing to give up to complete your retro look. It is also important to note that as you look at various retro helmets, fit is still going to be among one of the most important safety factors. So, make sure that the helmet fits correctly to ensure that it can protect you correctly. Besides the X3000 being full face and designed for the street and the X101 being designed for cross riding, the differences are not as great as one would expect. The main difference is that the chin vent of the X101 has been moved to the brow of the X3000, which also comes with a visor. Besides this, the liners of the two helmets are both made of suede material and both are made of fiberglass in 3 outer shell sizes. Thanks for the question!

Great video! Since this is a retro helmet, what is it's on /off road ratio?

That's a great question! Considering that retro helmets often place style over features, we'd put the X101 at about 70-80% on road / 30 - 20% off road. While the X101 ticks the boxes as far as off road features (such as the peak), it won't come with as much venting or off road focused safety as something purpose built like the Airoh Aviator 2.3 AMSS, which you can learn more about here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F8z6m9UtfnQ.html. So far, AGV have done a good job on their retro Legends collection and the X3000 especially, and the X101 was no different with it's excellent styling. Thanks for the comment! What are your thoughts on the AGV helmet?

Though the X101 does not come with speaker pockets and you may need to be careful of the non-removable neck roll, you can fit almost any universal speaker system. Like to see a comparison to the Bell Moto-3. Trying decide which to get. Bell is about $150 cnd less and the upcoming reverb graphic is quite nice

Thanks for the suggestion! Overall, the two helmets will be broadly similar, since both are retro cross helmets. Both helmets are coming made of fiberglass in 3 outer shell sizes and both use a snap on peak (the AGV uses 3 snaps and the Moto 3 has 5). The main differences are in the styling and that the AGV uses an eco-leather suede interior while the Moto-3 uses a terrycloth material. What are your thoughts on the two helmets?

@@Championhelmets Ty. Comparisons between the Bell Bullitt and AGV x3000 might give an idea of the build quality. My impression is that AVG makes a more livable lid. Slightly more refined? Might wear better over time? Think I'm leaning towards the AGV x101 Dust Helmet. Eyecatchingly safe and hits the retro look i like so much

Glamster and Rapide are no direct competitors for this AGV, the Ex-Zero, Bell Moto 3, Nexx X.G200, Premier MX series, DMD Seventy five, are better competitors for this helmet.

Are you 100% sure the M & L don't share the same shell size? It doesn't make sense that a manufacturer would make 3 shell sizes and not divide them (XS/S) (M/L) (L/XL). If you are correct, is it possible to purchase L padding separately and put into a M helmet? As you say yourself everyone wants the smallest shell size possible.
