AHRMA Classic Motofest of Monterey | A Short Film on Vintage Motocross 

In July 1971 I was between my Jr & Sr year of high school, & my third motorcycle. I'll always remember that summer evening my two best buds & I went in to the big city to see Bruce Brown's film. Also note the lyrics for the beautiful On Any Sunday theme were written and sung by Sally Stevens. To this day, my eyes tear up when I listen to the outro version at the end of the movie. As a professional, yet not famous session vocalist, her name does not appear in the credits. For 50 years, I wondered who she was. I finally found out when reading the Dec-2022 issue of American Motorcyclist magazine. During her career she did back up vocals for Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond, Wayne Newton & others. She also sang on many TV shows including; The Simpsons, The Smothers Bros, Carol Burnett show, Love Boat, Happy Days - and movies; Jaws, Indiana Jones, Planet of the Apes, so all of us reading this have most likely, unknowingly heard her voice in other venues. Quite interesting is that at the time, she had never ridden a motorcycle alone, only as a passenger. When this project came up, she asked her brother, who owned a bike, to again take her riding so she could "feel the experience, understand the details, and have the thoughts" to put the words on paper. At this time, 12/2022, she is still alive & well, living in LA, aged 83.

Love what you did with this. I'm an Original 'On and Sunday' Kid; was 11 and totally into Desert Racing in Las Vegas, when the Film came out. Mint 400; Barstow-to-Vegas, and all the local Hare n' Hound Action. It was Heaven. I 'sensed' immediately that you were doing a 'take off'...of OAS.....and then, you even used the original theme song toward the end. Loved it! Fun Video! Love those wonderful old 'Iron Knuckle' Dirt Bikes of yesteryear. Many of them hold up today.

I watch this and reminisce about the days when riding with your buddies after school was a common thing. As I watch this video… my 99 KX500 sits in the garage next to my 2002 KDX200, both will likely not be ridden by me again. Had back surgery and S1/L4/L5 were fused and it looks like I need another surgery. Motorcycles have been such a huge part of my life, specifically as a kid in school and when I came home from the service. No regrets about riding or any of the injuries I sustained, I’d do it again if I could. The 500 is for sale in Sacramento CL, if the ad expired I’ll repost. Somebody buy it before I decide to fire her up and head to hills. (If I do, I’ll probably never sell it).😊

Shameless Rip-Off of the movie "On Any Sunday", but it does capture the original intent and spirit of "On Any Sunday", in that anyone can get a bike and come out and do this! The track is not so extreme, and the bikes are not so complicated. Anyone who is interested can participate on a suitable vintage bike! Modern Motocross, not so much, but almost anyone can have a fun day at the races at a Vintage Motocross event, just like this one! Well Done Lad's!
