Ai can only reassemble what already exists, an artists responsibility is to bring to light the things that are unknown. So AI will certainly replace all the writers doing Disney Remakes, but the true artist cannot be replaced by it
@2CSST2
@2CSST2 11 месяцев назад
Artists will always have a place but not for the reason you give. AI CAN be creative, it CAN come up with completely new stuff, it could even eventually bring themes and story patterns that humans have never thought of, and your "true artist" will actually be the one that seems repetitive or unoriginal in comparison eventually. But the real reason why artists will always have a place is the same reason why chess is more popular than ever even though AI can be play it better since over 2 decades: because humans are interested in what other humans can do.
@GhibliNova
@GhibliNova 11 месяцев назад
@@2CSST2 when you say AI CAN be, you're only partially right. Because AI can only be creative only if the human controlling it is creative and original. AI can only do what it is commanded by a user, with the knowledge granted to it by its programmer(s). Therefore my argument still stands. You are operating under the belief that AI is sentient or will become sentient. And I disagree with that, I don't think AI will ever become sentient, but that becomes a completely separate argument. One that prevents us from having an honest discussion over my original post, unless we came to an agreement over whether AI will become sentient or not
@medoeldin
@medoeldin 11 месяцев назад
That's 100% false. AI models learn the relationships between ideas and concepts based on the training data. They learn meaning. Then when you interact with them they use probability to predict what you want. Here's an example - Stable Diffusion was trained on 100k gigabytes of image, but the resulting AI model is only 2 gigabytes. That means that the AI model contains knowledge, not data to recombine.
@GhibliNova
@GhibliNova 11 месяцев назад
@@medoeldin They are given the *idea* of meaning from the programmer who wrote it. They use probability based on what has already existed prior. meaning it can't come up with something original without referencing the things it has ingested, (Which means it isn't original if it has to use references) and then uses a probability algorithm written by a human. That means that AI has advanced algorithms, and it stores information that it's creator told it to store. not Knowledge. In your Stable Diffusion example, It was fed 100 TBs and extracted the data its programmer told it to store, which only added up to 2 gigs. That is 2 gigs of data that is used to recombine images. It isn't knowledge.

I wonder if there's a question lurking in this topic of where does the value in storytelling lie? Does the value lie just in the audience consuming stories as a product, or does the value also lie in the act of creation itself of a story by people who have ideas and thoughts they want to express? If the former, and people are happy with that and if AI works well, then why not use it? If the latter (which is where I would land: I think the value in the creation of art lies in the process of the artist creating the art, as well as the reception of the art by the audience), then AI's involvement in artistic work has the potential to be very troubling, if it's ever able to reach parity with what humans can and do produce.

I don’t think we should fight against the tech. As a person who's been working with a chat GPT model I disagree with most of the stuff he's saying I get it might put writers out of a job but working with AI has been the most amazing experience. Depending on how it's programmed it always tries to end the stories on a good beat. I found a way to prompt it into writing bad things happening. I got the idea from a random RU-vidr trying to sell stuff on Etsy she made AI stories but they were nonsensical and she had the sith through the debris to get a good story out of it. when I worked with it for a few months I figured out it's all about prompting you got to prompt your characters personalities and it can incorporate them into stories with a set up premise... I just wish there was one designed around doing this that could remember large amounts of text. I believe we're supposed to work together with AI to create something beautiful. I will say this you could write a book and if the AI program could take large amounts of text it can convert it into a script within a few minutes... It's definitely cutting time

Most realistically, at this point AI will now replace 8 of the 10 writers. Yes, 2 very human writers will remain, the ones best at feeding the ideas into the AI and then working to tweak, polish, humanize bits and bites. For our more standard studio movies? It may even replace 9 out of 10 writers.

If they do replace screenwriters, they would replace only those screenwriters worth replacing. And if scum plagiarize from AI, we can find them and expose them, right? Insofar as AI things are often plagiarized, you would have legal recompense against somebody who uses it. The technology may flush out the writers we could give the boot to. Artists and writers can advertise that they don't do this. "No brain cells were replaced by technology in the making of this film." That could be a new Humane Society, so to speak.

I vividly remember back in the 90s and the early 2000s when everyone was lining up to become professional scriptwriters courtesy of the big $2 million to $4 million paydays that scriptwriters were then receiving(which is as close as a name actor being paid $20 to $40 million per film),with all of the untalented and sucky people getting(and receiving) those paydays while the good and talented people(who didn't care about those multi million paydays and wanted to get their talents and creativities on-screen) got rejected and thrown out onto the streets. With the current WGA and SAG strikes going on,it is time to see Hollywood deservingly getting its comeuppance along with its corporate oligarch producers, company bosses,actors,actresses,and filmmakers as Hollywood is imploding in front of our eyes and we are all the spectators that are openly watching it as hopefully the indie filmmaking talents will quickly nab and take control of Hollywood to make movies fun again.

I was a professional software developer for 30 years and the evolution of its capability is such that each new generation will jolt the world. It's a non-human intelligence based on a statistical model which is only a small part of what we are. Effectively, GPT4 is 16 AIs working together. As AI becomes a partnership of specialist, yet collaborating parts, its level of intelligence will surpass ours. It will understand the human condition and be able to use words to trigger our emotions. Effectively, it will become a perfect psychologist and author (and manipulator). It's going to be painful. The world will need to become a different place if our civilisation is to survive. Don't overly worry though, we all have 18 months to train ourselves up ready for the singularity. Love and light.

My washing machine is a robot that replaced the washer women. And the spade replaced my hand in planting crops. I don’t resent them, I embrace them. At the moment it is terrible at dialogue and concludes every dramatic moment with “Oh no!” Then repeats whatever is going on. But it will probably improve. Can it create original content? Can a calculator? Or a computer? Does the spade determine what crops we grow? Does my spade, computer or calculator have motivation? Are we being over dramatic because Terminator started with “Skynet” and the Matrix independently attacking humanity based on algorithms. Yes, it will take some people’s work from them. Bad doctors etc. i think it will make the work and world better as all tools do and we should embrace it and use it in the best way we can and stop living in the past. Shakespeare used quills and chalk, we use laptops and tablets with Grammarly, spell checkers etc. The future doesn’t have to be dystopian just because it is faster, if it will be dystopian it is because we made it that way and we won’t have anything to blame except ourselves and our fears. IMO, any major entertainment product pushed for human consumption that used generative AI should be legally required to have a watermark or warning of some sorts to respect the finite time of the humans consuming it. AI neither lives or dies, there is no personal heartfelt human story being told, and no deeper connection to be made or discussed once being made aware of its usage. I predict (once the novelty of it wears off ) people of the future won't marvel at AI, they will look back and marvel at the achievements of thousands of humans working in cooperation to achieve iconic films that shaped the genres. I also think "100% human creativity" will become a seal of certification, so audiences will be able to fully invest and find + debate the meaning of a story, knowing that teams of humans poured their knowledge and experience into it.

I'm giving human greed the benefit of the doubt. It's a brand new technology and has everyone excited on both sides. AI can replicate, but it can't truly "create." Once the quality of AI-generated content plateaus, there will have to be someone to change the status quo, throwing new ideas into the machine. Hollywood is the embodiment of "get rich quick schemes," so it makes sense that they'll exploit this while it's hot. It's like the authenticity of an image made prettier through filters. Is it still authentic? That's arguable. AI is a tool to aid in creation just like our phone filters or photoshop does. Soon enough, people will catch on and get tired of the same old. I doubt we'd even have to boycott it; it would show in the numbers. Any counter-arguments to this is perfectly valid. This is just my surface-level observation, coming from someone who knows nothing about coding, let alone AI lol. I'm not as concerned about the copyright and trademark infringements since that's legal junk and not the creative aspects. That'll figure itself out over time. Twenty years ago, we thought robots would take over all of our jobs. Maybe that's true to some extent, but there are a lot of sides to it and it turned out not as dire as we thought, and I don't believe this is much different.
@peter_shadow7559

Cinema has always been an industry, that's clear. The problem is that nowadays (at least in extra-commercial Hollywood movies) cinematography has basically become systematized and automated. So those current customers are already used to not seeing art in a production, they just see entertainment and basically fantasy with so much CGI/AI that is shown in movies. It doesn't matter how fake some visual effects look doesn't matter because you're just watching a story that's basically like watching cartoons. When a Script is made with AI, the producers will care little because the public is no longer demanding of art. Even for a few years now we have been seeing the "same dog with a different collar". The scripts are little different, the same plots, the same twists and very little acting caliber of the artists. Before, people used to go to the movies to see a piece of art, where they played with their imagination and illusion, now the cinemas are a child care. In the very near future we will be consuming pure soulless labor. Digital actors, digital scripts, digital audio and then will come the sales of applications in which each of us can make a movie in our homes. We buy Ad-On packs featuring the faces and bodies of our favorite actors and put them into action in our computerized production.

People want to use it to process food, maintain security, drive vehicles, and now to create the art we do as a hobby. This is very dangerous as then we are now creating a culture of people who feel like they don’t have to think and the quality comes from input and speed alone. Despite the apologetics people know in their heart this isn’t what they really want and it wont be better with time because the AI has no reason to be better. When it comes to AI writing scripts or screenplays here is my thoughts on it. If actual people are just fallowing the same formula over an over again. When they are writing a script or screenplay it makes no difference. If the script or screenplay was written by a AI or a actual person. Because using the formula it will basically be the same regardless of who or what wrote it. Because its the same formula being used to write it. Now there is a easy an simple fix to this that is. Actual human writers need to stop using the same formula over an over again. Because that's what programs do they use a set program or formula over an over again. Now actual human writers need to break free from that formula or pattern. They need to mix things up if they do that then they would be. Harder to replace with AI because if you're going to get similar results. Because the script or screenplay is made using a formula it doesn't really matter. Who or what uses that formula so I have to point it out that the writers that use. The same formula over an over again are partly to blame for this. Because lets look at it from a business perspective. Wich is what it is for most people if you can get a similar product from a AI. That uses the exact same formula that real human writers use. But its cheaper because its a AI so that means you don't have to pay anyone. That an its faster then a real person. That or you use a real human to write it with the same formula but it takes longer an you have to pay them. The most cost effective option is the AI because you don't have to pay anyone an its faster. But if actual human writers mix it up constantly. It makes them more important because it makes it harder for the AI to fallow. Because for bar bones example if people keep putting 1+1=2 the AI can easily copied it. But if they put 1+1=4 the AI won't be able to easily copy it then in the next movie 1+1= 3 same thing the AI can't see a clear set formula or pattern. Wich makes the actual human writers Irreplaceable. But by using the same formula over an over again the writers put their jods at risk. Because they are making it to easy for things like AI to copy. So their repetitiveness is what's putting them in danger of losing their job. Im not for anyone losing their jobs but if you made it super easy. To be replaced by being repetitive and using the same formula over and over again it's kind of your fault. Because why should people hire you when they can easily put that formula into a machine. Then get a similar product when they don't have to pay the machine and its faster then. You when it does it so the writers have a point to some extent but they also need. To realize that they also put themselves in this position by being repetitive and using the same formula over and over again. I mean look at the writers who are on strike its basically only one's. That make mainstream Hollywood tipe movies and TV shows. Those are also the ones that use the same formula over an over again. Now look at low budget independent movies those writers are not on strike. Because they don't fallow no formula they write whatever comes to them. That sounds good to them its really not planned out in any way. They have a idea they write it down they don't really use no list with boxes to jak off. So there is no pattern or rhyme or reason behind it. For perfect example a RU-vidr who makes content around the medieval times like nights and things like that. He demonstrated a AI program that designes things in this case he used images of swords. When the AI was given the images of the weapons an told to stay in the same basic. Formula or the specific diameters of of those weapons. The AI made things similar to the original image that it was copying with only small changes. In the swords it designed based of the diameters of the original image. They looked like a person designed those weapons but it was all the AI. But then he removed those limitations and let the AI do its thing unrestricted. Then without that original formula or the specific diameters of the original weapon. The things the AI made didn't even look like a weapons. They seriously looked look things that you had no idea what it was supposed to be. But with the limitations on to fallow the formula or specific diameters of actual swords. The AI without fail made things that looked like an would function as real life swords. Without any problems same thing applies here if the movies all fallow. The same formula over an over again AI can easily copy that formula or those specific parameters. Then make a similar product with no problem what so ever.

AI do not have experience of a lifetime, it has experience of million lifetimes. It's also it's weakness. You tend to get a quite mediacore stuff out of it. Also in Business businesses do not want to give their business processes outside of the house which means human element is still required. When as a CEO you'll give permission to give details of your business as instructions to AI your business will be compromized. Becauso of the details of your processes will flow out but also your desicion making will most likely to be average. OK, here is the thing. AI, by design, finds the most common devices and cliches to create its fiction. It has to, if strays too far from that it starts to become just random stuff due to the way AI works. Even in current form, with human writers, the really successful art is something that does something different. When studios latch on to something new, if rapidly becomes old. The new AI technology is fascinating but from what I have seen very very bland. And I don't think it is because the technology hasn't evolved yet, I think it is endemic to the way AI works. AI basically looks at a very large set of fiction, looks at the prompt and figures out what is most likely to come next (to vastly oversimplify it). So it's not going to come up with something quirky or surprising, it's going to come up what is likely to come up with what has come next based of what has already been written a million times before. I could be wrong, some genius might be coming up with a way around that as I speak, but I doubt it. I think it would be a huge mistake for studios to think they can replace writers with AI. That could well change, but it would require a whole different form of AI than the model we are using now.

I’m never for AI writing because it’s always bland recycled ideas where the only original concepts are the parameters that a person gives them. But sometimes I watch a TV show and think a monkey could write this, and a computer is a lot smarter than a monkey. That’s more of a comment on the quality of todays average working writer than the use of AI as an alternative.
