Overwatch is my first FPS. When i saw the trailer, I decided i will master Widowmaker no matter what. I have played the game less than a year, and i have 300 hours. My aim is really good now. (3.5 ingame 800 dpi) Why? Because i was practicing all the time. Nobody can teach u how to aim, u have to put in ur effort and dont give up. So don’t spend ur time watching aim guides, and practice instead.

What is "really good"? Critrate, SR? Do you only play Widow? I'm a Widow 1trick. I've been playing FPS fps a long time now, on and off. So since I've started playing Overwatch I'm playing less not-fps games and reducing playtime in other fps titles also to not screw up my aim. For Overwatch I decided I wanted to actually get good at aiming. Most heroes don't require any aim which would then be dead time wasted where I could be practising. So I decided to 1trick Widow. I mean you can probably climb pretty high with McCree without ever learning how to aim if you just position yourself and Flash your Hammer all the time... Started at 2008 SR in s3 and now my career high is 3344. 20% critrate s8. My aim was really good for a gold player, enough to compete with the rare masters/t500 players I met in Widow only HS servers. My positioning was Bronze level though. My tracking is horrible now, used to be decent. I do want to be somewhat proficient with tracking aim also so will probably add a little bit of Sombra. Now that her spread is lowered a bit aiming actually is required.

I bought the game last week. Had 13% accuracy. This is my first fps since HALO 1.. (how long is that?) I practiced the whole week... Got 60 hours played.. up to 35% acc. This is true, you just gotta practice... Now i hit almlst every flickshot on the training grounds.

I love this video because it should resonate extremely well with anyone who ever wanted to be really good at something. The pro players that look like Gods are not really Gods at aiming but rather they just have massive numbers of hours ahead of you. Sidenote: don't be discouraged with aiming, when I started PC less than a year ago I was completely awful at aiming but after roughly 300 or so hours on hitscan(mainly mc cree and soldier) and countless potato aim hours I'm finally a gm mc cree main and I'm playing on a 60hz monitor don't get discouraged and don't give up it is very possible!

well, skills are also important on top of practice. Some people just cannot compete vs others in various fields. Lets accept that and do not pretend that all people are same, cause we aren't.

Slayergramps was a console player till overwatch. That was his first PC game and FPS using a mouse. He climbed to top 500 (and has continuously maintained it) after 6-8 months of playing mostly Soldier, Tracer, McCree, Widow and hog. His aim is clearly at the same level as most pros and when I asked him about it, he just said that he actively practiced for a few months. In his view, just practicing and focusing for a few minutes each day is a lot better than passively playing thinking you'll get better over time. He also emphasized that building aim was the easy part and took a lot less time than actually developing the game sense needed for high level play. So while your numbers might have some authenticity to them, there's an extremely high probability of them having major exceptions and it all comes down to the player. Yes, you need to put in time and effort. But needing 2-3 years with 4+ hours a day just to get good aim at the same level as the pros? Nope, it can be done much earlier and much later depending on the player. And I think the biggest factor is actively practicing. By that I mean adjusting to a good sense, doing aim drills and while playing a match, actively focusing all your efforts on aim for that specific match. Say to yourself, "doesn't matter if I lose this match or if I literally have to stand still. My job is to not miss" Again, something Slayer said. Active and critical practice for short term is always going to be better than passive playing for long term. While I agree with a lot of stuff you say about aim, I think this video and the next few ones are not really relevant towards practical application. All these statistics and knowledge won't help anyone improve their aim. Actually going in game and trying to play better will. No player should be given a straight answer to how long it takes (like you saying two years) because there simply isn't one. For all we know, there could be one prodigy here who gets his aim built up in a month. Maybe even sooner. There's no number to how long it will take, only the player and his effort. There are legit players with 1000s of hours and are still in bronze with horrible game sense and aim. And then there are players like Slayer and countless other GMs who reached their ranks in a lot less time with a lot less experience. Call it natural talent, critical practice, efficient playing etc whatever. Point is that there's no timeline for it and every player is different and will have their own pace that only they themselves can change. P.S he also considers it a hobby xD He's not even a full time streamer.

hes talking about averages. An exception here and there doesnt disprove the rule. Its a guideline, an estimate, an average. bottom line someone who is playing their first FPS game on PC shouldnt expect to have diamond level aim in 1-2 months. Its possible, but not likely.

Thanks so much for all you do for the community! Its easy to lose hope and question yourself when it comes to accuracy. Using your guides on tracer and mcree alongside your psa video, I've been able to maintain ~35% accuracy with tracer and ~50% with mcree all while increasing my crit % and k/d. After only a few weeks of playing dps, I've placed a new account into high Plat. Would love to see a genji guide if your still doing guides. A hero with such a high skill ceiling, and I have yet to see such a detailed guide as you would do for him (stages etc.)

I appreciate you making this video. I've only played Shooters since Overwatch's release, and when I looked into how to improve my aim, the only two pieces of advice I'd see is either to keep adjusting settings till I get good, or to not focus on that at all because it doesn't matter as much as other skills. Now that you've given me some perspective into how much time actually goes into getting to that higher level of aiming skill, I can stop being so aggravated and under confident in my abilities, and take the time to just keep working on improvement, as you helped me to realize that there really is no easy way to "git gud," I just have to keep going. Thank you.

I've only been playing fps games seriously between 1 1/2 or 2 years. I really have no other goal than reaching a professional level with this game, putting this into perspective shows that even though I may be above average at the beginning of my experience, I still have a long way to go.

Wow I was actually obsessively searching for this information yesterday and now you upload a video on it. I have 800 hours in Overwatch and less than a year of using high end equipment and I've peaked at 3417. My aim as McCree is definitely not all that bad but I miss shots that I know better players would make. I've never played FPS games on PC before OW so I'm still relatively a newbie. I've been so worried that I just hit some sort of block and can't get any better. But the amount of time I put into the game and FPSs in general is infinitesimal compared to those that I look up to and compare myself to. Thanks for the video man.

This was a great video, and thanks to RU-vid algorithm I was recommended this video 3 years later... I agree with everything that was said in this video but one thing that wasn’t mentioned was how efficient each hour was spent perfecting your skills in a game. If you spend 700 hours doing everything you can to improve as fast as possible rather than occasionally playing and sometimes doing things that doesn’t help your aim at all for 1400 hours then I would assume they should be on par with each other. But is that the case? I have no clue lol, I’m just saying my opinion is all.

This is true. I've only put in about 500~ Hours into Overwatch and I'm sitting at Diamond right now. If I would invest the time and quit playing other games that take up time I could vastly improve my aim as Ana or Zen. But alas I am addicted to MMORPGs, I've probably put around 7,000 hours into the handful of MMORPGs I've played.

Just a random tip to add, for those who think they deserve better, just train every single hero (preferably in qp) so you actually know the game. I'm at high master rn but back then when i was diamond even after 80 hours with genji i was bad, why ? Because i played only pharah junkrat (150h/300) . Now after 500 hours i can play 20 heroes of overwatch cast in masters and do well with them. You don't get good at the game only by playing him over and over, at least learn how to play well at least 2 hero of each category (dps, tank, healer) at a certain elo and you will climb faster

thanx for mentioning us ut/quake veterans. i play ut99 since it was released 20 years ago. there are some players who acquired insane aiming/prediction skills over the years. aiming is a skill like any other, the more time you invest in it, the better you get. edit: i forgot to say that vast majority of today's fps games suck. developers are mostly focused on making the games look nice and overlook the actual gameplay itself. just for comparison -overwatch: /watch?v=weJM2dz8YRU -ut99: /watch?v=9NjPN8U1FeE

I started playing First person shooters with MW2 back in 2009 (I think), then to black ops, then to MW3, then to black ops 2, then to CS:GO, then to black ops 3, then to Overwatch, then to Rainbow Six siege. Overall I have around 10,000 hours of experience with FPS games. And I still suck at it. Most of those hours were spent on console (wich I'm good at) but only like 700 hours on PC, so I'm sooooooo bad at aiming with the mouse. I'm bronze on R6 Siege, but master on Overwatch (because I play Zarya lol). But ye, It takes a LOT of practice.

In the meantime I learned half of the roster of ow so i can play any role since I specialized in dps/tank/support so pratically any role, my bad doesnt sucks so bad, the problem is Im not enough reactive to survive. If I would die at least 1/3 of my actual deaths, I would be in diamond.

I have over 2k hours in MW2 alone and that's not nearly the majority of my playtime. But I'm still facing major consistancy issues. It's to the point where I can't even get enjoyment out of my good performance because I know it's going to go downhill any time. Sometimes it's impossible for me to warm up and I know I won't be able to do well that day, or even that week. I feel like I've plateaued a long time ago since I haven't really gotten better for as long as I can remember now. And I have no idea how to break through this.

i know that feel man, have you tried taking a break for a month or so?
@mardy3732

I've taken many breaks. I just couldn't get any enjoyment out of the games I played anymore, that just happens. And once that happens there's not really a point in playing anymore. But I picked up overwatch around two weeks ago and I'm getting really into it. And the tips these channels offer have already helped me out a ton.

Just started playing OW a year ago on pc, but I have probably clocked near 10k hours in first person shooters, and definitely 10k or more gaming, probably 20k hours gaming tbh. This dude doubts how little life I have lol, this isn't discouraging at all, if anything I feel like I'm right on pace with the other pros lol, in a year or so I'll be insane once I got 2 or 3 years of aiming with mouse under my belt.

I appreciate the images of LiNKzR. One of the better widows in the league, and it will be a fun season to be a Houston fan.

I can aim but I perfer the mechanical/game sense aspects of overwatch so I mostly play tanks.
@oludus326

a) Aim IS mechanical b) Tanks take aim c) Supports and DPS take mechanics and game sense

Even though I played call of duty for a long time, I main Lucio because I just find him More fun to play. Edit: I gotta show this series of videos to my brother, this might help him understand why he's still in platinum/gold.

I have permanent bad aim and practice is useless your wasting your time I should be hitting every shot and I still miss all them it's not fair I have 5 years experience with FPS games I'm quitting FPS games no point playing something I'm terrible at. Might quit gaming tbh I'm good at nothing

because, they practice in the least efficient way. no one would be able to hit the level they envision in their head because they don't think outside the box.

bro im ofc not feeling bad knowing pros put more time; what im feeling bad about is that some of them trained for the same amount of time as me and that they are on a level that I might never reach even by training 2 times more. + the fact that i dont see any diff between the me from last year and the me from today, thats depressing af, a thing where i put myself in a lot, i cant improve at it, there is almost nothing that I will ever like to tryhard more than this game, for exemple tryharding ur work is pretty rare, ppl do what they have to do and thats it. So even with the most tryhard I can get, I cant improve, what kind of loser am I?

So you are telling me that i cant be a pro in a year? I played fortnite for more than 140 hrs and my aiming is still bad and i feel disappointed. I started playing video games seriously only a year ago. Is it natural that my aiming still bad?
