I was there for both shots -- Aimee standing up for her humanity in the crowds in the 80's and now. As a gay man in the 80's it meant everything to me, and I held onto it like a lifeline, and it got me through many painful times when I needed to scream like a champ in the crowd of people telling me to shut down. I liked this time just as much. Science of my emotions..

I couldn’t stop smiling while watching this. This was nearly a shot for shot recreation of the “Voices Carry” video with a twist on the original plot. Here, the guy wanted her to be more “punk” while she wanted to be more normal.

I'm a little sad that I didn't revisit Aimee Mann's music sooner than I did.

Okay, I just HAD to do one of those experiment things that those of us on RU-vid just HAS to do sometimes and decided to see just how well synched "Labrador" is with "Voices Carry"...What I did was take this video and skip past the BTS bits to pause it at the start, muted the audio and then queued up the video for "Voices Carry" in a separate window, starting both at the same time and hiding "Voices Carry" behind "Labrador", so that I am watching the video for "Labrador" but hearing the audio for "Voices Carry". "Labrador" is a bit shorter than "Voices Carry", which means that the video had to be shortened a bit. This becomes obvious once you hit the second refrain...this is the scene where the boyfriend tries to take away her guitar and she snatches it back and storms off down the sidewalk. "Voices Carry" has this scene last long enough that she is storming down the sidewalk at the same time that the line "Hush Hush, keep it down now, voices carry" is sung for the third time. "Labrador" shortens this scene significantly, so that she is already hot-footing it down the sidewalk when that line has been sung just once. The syncing of both videos falls apart at this point, with the result being that "Voices Carry" is still playing for several seconds after "Labrador" is finished. If someone with decent editing skills could find a good way to lengthen that one scene out, it's possible that "Labrador's" video could be mixed with the audio for "Voices Carry" and create the PERFECT tribute for that song, a song which put Aimee Mann on the map...assuming anyone is willing to try?
