Cops still said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana and pulled the robot out and beat it senseless

Driver less cars do not understand anything... Lets say for example a tanker is leaking ammonia gas and people is stopping cars on the road warning them about the gas leak. But the driver less car will understand nothing of this and just drive past them with the passenger locked in with no way of escaping (these cars lock the doors locking the passengers in until they arrive at the destination). There is countless scenarios like that where a driverless car will end up killing someone where a human driver would understand the warnings and dangers.++

They need robocop for these situations.

Obviously the headlight was a glitch in the software. Some engineer was drinking one too many latte and oops, forgot to flip the bit for headlight. You might wonder what else the software engineer missed. Could mean life or death.

I heard someone who was riding in their Tesla in the backseat got arrested and had the car impounded. I don’t see how these things can break the law and be able to continue operations. One of the waymo cars swerved around another one at a stop sign and blew it and cut off traffic. Another one was driving on the wrong side of the road, that’s pretty scary

In all seriousness - I saw two videos that made me think that a computer-operated car could cost you your life ... 1) A car was following another. It had a camera, so we'll call it the cam-car. It went down a narrowing road towards a tunnel, and just before entering the tunnel, the car in front stopped and three guys jumped out, leaving their car doors open, and ran to the cam car with guns - clearly a hold-up. The driver of the cam-car reacted in a split-second, gunned the motor and the robbers dived out of its way. It went around the robbers'car, smashing off the open door, and made its getaway. A computer-controlled car would never have "thought" to do that. 2) A car driver was threatened by 2 motorcycles whose pillion riders had guns. He hammered on the brakes and the bikes went ahead of him - then he gunned the motor and hit both bikes. One was thrown ahead and the other landed on the hood of his car. The last scene, taken from a different camera, showed one of the robbers running down the road after the cam-car, whose driver had been saved by human reaction thaat would not be built into a computer. Besides those scenarios, any user of a Windows PC knows that the software performs admirably - *_most of the time_* - but occasionally, it messes up. It may require a reboot, or it may do unpredictable things. It lives in a vary complex environment, of course, where a lot of things are going on - but so does the operating system in a car - and there are thousands of possibilities for things to happen that its programmers haven't thought of. Today, I heard on BBC - Radio-4, a woman who had been in the driver's seat, testing a driverless car in the UK. There was some sort of glitch, and the car stopped, holding up other motorists. It put its hazard warning lights on, and other motorists started passing it (slowly). It was embarassing for the woman tester, who appeared to be driving it - but not dangerous. Then the car suddenly pulled away again, went through an intersection, pulled over and locked all its doors, locking her inside - so she was imprsoned by an AI - which she found very frightening. More than a year alter, she has never been back inside one of these cars - having lost all confidence in them. Driverless cars will come - there's a lot of money riding on them. There will be accidents. People will get killed. There will be legal difficulties over proving who ia at fault, and the software will inevitably improve - but each improvement will come with a reload, and we have all seen new releases of Windows give new problems, and car software will be the same. I'm a retired computer hardware engineer and programmer - and I don't trust any program running in an environment like the public roads, where anything and everything can happen.

Driverless cars forgot to add in police interactions. Police need to have a device that will take full control of the driverless car to issue ticket to have it go back to its owner or company

Who programmed the car to drive somewhere? How does the car not mistake other flashing lights? Did the car make a driving mistake and get pulled over? Did they find the owner? This is completely incomplete. How did the car not know someone was in the car. You would think driverless cars would sense seat pressure to know someone is in the car and make you tell the car your conscious at least every once in awhile by at least putting a finger or a thumb somewhere. Was this car reprogrammed by the owner to drive without them? Was the car hacked? Did someone swap with the software with opensourced? Police should be able to send a signal to any driverless car to pull it over. Possibly including firemen.
