After the President has retaken the plane from Russian terrorists they soon find themselves under attack.. can the USAF fighter jets reach them in time?
I like that the Vice President has to bring it to everyone's attention that Air Force One is being pursued by migs.....guess everyone in the military/air force had the day off.
+william lydon I love how the VP knows how many migs, also how the bloke knew where they came from from just seeing the dot. but yeah the air force were taking a coffee break
So many people would have gotten the MoH in this movie. - All the Secret Service agents (posthumous) - All AF1 pilots (posthumous) - Major Cadwell (posthumous) - Halo 2 (posthumous) - The dude who took the bullet from Gary Oldman Distinguished Sevice Cross - All Halo flight pilots - All Liberty 24 PJs (1 posthumous) Bronze Star - All Liberty 24 aircrew
+Alexander Love THis scene would not have been any less realistic if the Millennium Falcon had showed up. Those Migs would have gutted Air Force One in seconds at that range, even with just guns.
🤣 I spent 25 years in Navy. NO pilot 🧑✈️ is doing anything like that I promise you. The American people would just have to wait til the term is over to decide to elect a new commander-in-chief or re-elect the intern vice acting president
Fun fact George Lucy's use airplanes for the original as he didn't have the Special effects ready yet. Everyone hated it when he showed it to all the big producers except Steven Spielberg who said it was great.
@@kennooo535 Art is symbolic of how we view the world. Self-sacrifice is valued in most of the world. Whether a scene is realistic or not (obviously this one isn't), people appreciate examples set in art and relate them to analogues in the real world.
The moment that always chokes me up and makes me cheer is when Halo 2 puts his plane between the missile ans AF1. I know it's a movie. What touches me so much is knowing that there are real-life people serving in our military who would do the same thing. God Bless all those who have laid down their lives in cause of freedom,
I'm pretty certain you have a lot of counterparts in the Arab world who cheer and praise Allah when their 'freedom fighters' blow themselves up along with your military.
Lessons from this scene: In the manner of martial arts movies, when assailed by six enemy planes only one will attack at a time, allowing you to respond. Enemy planes will have no radar or missile lock warning, allowing US planes to attack in virtual surprise. Air Force One only contains one set of countermeasures, so two missiles should do the trick. When fleeing the scene and imminent destruction, enemy planes must perform aerobatic maneouvres.
If u really watched the movie, this plane (in the movie at least) had 2 missile countermeasures. The first 1 was deployed earlier when a US fighter shot a missile to AF1 as ordered by President Marshall. Other than that, on point
For the first one, I could chalk it up to the pilots wanting to toy with their target a bit out of sadistic desire to avenge their leader's death. I got nothing for the other three, though.
The first set of missiles fired by the F-15s are AIM-120 AMRAAM. Planes being targeted by those missiles won't know about it until those missiles are very close to them; therefore allowing almost very little to no time to execute evasive maneuver.
They only used flares once in this scene though and then they were out. You'd think Air Force One would have a compartively huge supply since it's not as limited in space as a jet. lol
Its is BS, and i my self don't want to here anything about it, both russians and us American are in our own path, until we see actual evidence of whos military is better, then we can argue.
Well, aside from a pilot with apparently no piloting experience, six MiGs having concecutive brain farts on how to fly AND shoot, and the fact that Air Force One had no aerial guard fighters, it was a pretty good scene.
Well I don't know if you've seen the movie but the crew was killed by hijackers and they were taken into in hostile airspace meaning the fighter escort had to break off.
0:39, that has to be a distance of several hundred miles between AF1 and the MiGs. Even if the MiGs were at Mach 1, it would take them an hour to cover the distance to where AF1 was at at that time, and several more minutes to reach AF1, who would be protected by the Halo squad.
They weren't at Mach 1, They were fully firewalled, the distance was about 500 miles given scale, at 1,429 MPH they could cover it in about 20 minutes.
what I don't understand tho is both central command and the eagles picked the MIGs up on radar but neither the base nor the MIGs picked the eagles up on radar. minor plot fuck up lol. The migs should've broke the attack, and went for the merge.
Kevin Sullwold not really. They fly in close formation as well not for the show or a parade. The radar signature gets bigger and if you fly slower and they do , the radar can have a mistake that it's one bigger plane
It's nice to see that the judge from "a Few Good Men" (1992) were able to transfer from the USMC to the USAF while keeping his tank in just five years.
supposed to be 'he's in my sights' though with epic emigrantslavic-american accent as usual for movies with 'russians'. It's easier to hear what you've written, though.
As if all of a sudden they have no idea if they get missile locked. Or the fact that none of them even try to evade like nah I just fly a straight course even tho I'm being locked from behind and my instrument panel should be blaring alarms and recommending countermeasures I'll just blow up as well as not trying to eject either
Actually in that time period most Migs couldn't detect the higher tech radars in an F-15, and the missiles they were shooting wouldn't have engaged their own radars until immediately before impact. That's a big part of the reason for the F-15's 100-odd to zero kill ratio.
@@chrisdelzell8467 Sort of, but not exactly, Chris. The AIM-120 AMRAAM typically went 'pit bull' fairly soon after launch so that the fighter pilot was free to engage other bandits, but if the F-15 pilot had the radar in any mode other than STT (single target track), the bandit wouldn't get much warning. For example, if the radar is in TWS (track while scan) or TWS-RAID, not enough of the radar's energy is being directed at the bandit to trigger his radar warning receiver.
Oh man...talk about a nostalgia throwback. Janes Flight Sims on Wisdows 98 n then XP. Back in the glory days of gaming. Star Wars X-Wing Alliance, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy VII VIII & IX, Metal Gear Solid, Novalogic Comanche Gold and Delta Force. Man oh man. Golden Era of gaming for me. Sure this movie has its flaws, but it was still a lot of fun and very memorable. I remember first time I saw this when Halo 2 sacrificed himself I got super choked up lol. The ‘90s really churned out some great movies
Like yesterday. F-22 Lightning II was always my favorite. Locking a bogey up 150mi out and firing the AMRAAM, destroying the target without being seen was always a thrill!
Post-soviet militaries (even Russian's) are plagued with poor personnel training and poorly maintained assets. This movie was set on immediate post soviet era.
She really deserved her place as Vice President. She had a good eye, good judgement, tried to work something out with the terrorist even if she failed, and she had faith in Marshall. Even though the Cabinet basically gave up on Marshall with that document they all signed to overrule his decision to request the release of Radek, she refused to sign it. She believed in him and knew it was merely a ploy get out of something that he'd fix it in the end, which he did.
Ah yes, lets ignore the fact those MiGs could have fired from outside of visual range, the Russians couldn't hit a damn 747 from a few metres away, and all Russian MiGs suddenly are incapable of manuevering and dogfighting.....ignore all those and yeah, it was a "good" scene.
+hildemel well they weren't to bright these pilots. any of them. not one of them thought to turn off their navigational lights before gong into combat at night. we'll go with target fixation on the 747 maybe some electronic jamming is why they didn't detect the missiles or the F15's. they did hit it but why they wouldn't just dump a couple missiles each at it and be done with it is beyond me. If your going to assassinate the president of the USA spending a few extra bucks on missiles shouldn't be an issue.
+hildemel That's because Air Force One was using plot armor jammers. Designed by Hollywood in the 1980s, it is so strong that not only does it jam the BVR missiles' radar, it also jams the enemies' intelligence and common sense, turning all of them into untrained klutz.
***** Didn't ignore it. Don't make baseless assumptions. If they want to make something that isn't crud, then they should have been a bit more intelligent about it and less "Murica!".
hildemel Then you are too stupid for words. I've seen far more ridiculous in cinema than this. I also find it funny that I'm not the first one to point this out and I'm the one you reply too.
1:53 Those are Russian MiG-29's. The Mikoyan MiG-29 "Fulcrum" is a fourth-generation, air superiority fighter developed in the Soviet Union. It first entered service in 1983 with Soviet Air Force and remains in service with many air forces around the world.
USAF even uses those for recon. and training. the MIG-29 is also the only supersonic aircraft available for civilian ownership. Tho as of late there's been F-14s, F-15s and F-16s showing up on surplus.
The United States launched a re-engining for Russian owned MIG-29s. which brings the aircraft up to modern specs. it also gives Russian MIG-29s supercruise capability.
@@Jack29151 yeah i suggests the americans should upgrade this masterpiece.......it is a very capable fighter, some sort of advanced engineering is critically needed...heard the original engine sucking too much jet fuel🤣🤣😅😅
Even though, I´m not a fighter pilot whatsoever it seems strange to me that these Mig-29 pilots had at least 2 minutes time and couldn´t shoot down a relatively slow airplane like the air force one (747) even though it has armor and countermeasures... These pilots could´ve just shoot a missile at the plane one after another! Am I right?
yw you are right if various missiles fired at one time than the countermeasures and hammers will be saturated. And also they have limited capacity. Even a cannon can hit a transport plane in very close range without missing.
Red Missiles are hugely expensive to buy and manufacture, so they only fire as many as needed as to not waste ammunition. Also if they all fired all the missiles would have been evaded by the flares AF-1 can deploy
SuperAshahzad yep they have vodka compartments like a limo and a doll of an imaginary friend. Russians don't like to drink alone. They are not Mexicans
This movie was rarely accurate in a technical sense. However, the President in this movie was a fighter pilot with combat experience. He wasn't trained to fly a jumbo jet but he was a highly experienced pilot nonetheless.
One thing that makes me laugh about this clip is that despite being in a room full,of military men it took the VP to be the first to notice the MIGS indicator on the map lol
Oh yeah, that is so realistic. I'll be very surprised if in real life Air Force One can last longer than 10 seconds under real attacks from 6 MiGs at once.
Considering the full range of its defensive features are classified and we do know it can withstand a full on blast of a nuclear explosion...i would be very surprised if it didnt last longer than 10 seconds...i mean after all it was designed with the idea in mind of being engaged in any combat situation with the amount of radar and jamming ecm equipments it has been confirmed to have so far...also when overseas it is closely monitored by the air force with f22s always at hand in case something goes wrong
a full on blast from a nuclear weapon ? I think you mean it can withstand the EMP generated from a nuclear blast, very few manmade things can stand up to a nuclear explosion.
It can withstand the EMP of a nuclear blast, not the explosion itself. It likely has flares and ECM; but 6 MIGs should be able to take it out with guns pretty quickly in this situation.
The Russians are the good guys in the movie. They were on the joint strike with the US to capture General Raddick and they killed him during the prison scene. The villains of the movie are Kazakhstan Radicals who supported the General.
