Michelia Alba, also known as Pak Lan, is a large evergreen flowering tree cultivated for its highly perfumed creamy white colored blossoms. The profuse flowers are highly prized. Both the flowers and leaves are highly aromatic and can be used in fragrance production. On a warm humid night, the scents can be enjoyed several hundred feet away. The tree has a long flowering season, up to six months.
Magnolia Alba, also known as the white champaca, white sandalwood, or white jade orchid tree, is a flowering plant of hybrid origin that is commonly cultivated in Southeast Asia and tropical regions of East Asia. Although the exact origin is uncertain, it is considered to be a hybrid of Magnolia champaca and Magnolia montana.

I find your detailed instructions very helpful. You did a lot of preparation for planting this tree. I never thought of putting the banana peel and egg shells into the soil. Your videos are always clear and informative.

How often and how much do you water your plant during the summer in 100+ F in southern CA?

It really depends on your plant location and environment condition. Our area is about 80 to 90 F, and my plant is recently planted, and it is under a big tree, I water it once per a couple of days. The point is to check your plant leaves. If they look like wilted early in the morning, that means it's dehydrated, you need to water it right away. Actually, if it is a well established and big tree, you do not have to water it pretty often. But if you water it pretty often, especially during hot summer, no hurt to your plant if your plant is not soaked in the water.

Does that location have too much sun? I ask because I am trying to find the best location to plant mine (San Jose CA).

It is a tropical plant, and it loves full fun for better fragnant flowering. The mother plant is planted just 2 blocks away, totally exposed to fun sun without any nearby shade. You can see it in my video. It is fantastic. So I do not think full sun is a problem for the plant, especially for you since you are in North CA. BTW, it is said the tree is sensitive to strong wind.
