We have booked most of our sits on TrustedHousesitters. Here's our discount referral link - links.gowithless.com/THS (it works if you NEED a house sitter, too!)

I just booked my first Trusted Housesitters sit, and it is the magic unicorn: I will be house and pet sitting in the city where I needed to be anyway on exactly the dates I wanted to be there. Huzzah!

We are traveling the world full-time for the next 10 years and have been using Airbnb exclusively. Your estimate of $100/night is what we are using. We were very intrigued by your video and giving us some great ideas. We want to give retired travelers ideas and this is a great one. Thanks so much for sharing such a helpful video and hopefully our paths will cross someday around the world. Safe travels, John and Bev

I have learned so much from watching your videos already and am grateful for the wisdom and advice you share to help those who are new to the world of house/pet setting! Thank you!

We LOVE Trusted Housesitters! We haven't sat for anyone, but we use it when we go away. On both sides, sitters and home owners, it's such a great deal. You just have to do your due diligence to make sure that the sitter is reliable, but that's easily done with a video call and meet and greet.

You are so right about the Airbnb kitchen. The 1 frying pan in the Airbnb I'm in now was deformed when I arrived. This didn't turn out to be much of a problem, because I was able to bend it to a usable shape with my hands. LoL.

Airbnb’s were much better when it first started. They were looked after directly by the owner who gave a more personal attention and would even socialize with the guests if the guest was up for it. It was great for cultural exchange. Now that is rare. Now they are almost like hotels as you mentioned. The owner isn’t even around. Buildings are being bought up and units turned into hotel-like units. Nothing specials and no personal attention to the guest. I have been preferring to just go to a hotel when I travel.

Our first Airbnb stay in 2012 was a one-bedroom house near Santa Barbara. The owner left and must have stayed with someone else. There wasn't an inch to put our stuff...even the towel rack was occupied! I still remember we paid $250/nt for that space and we loved it despite the lack of space. You are generally right, though. We need the kitchen and washer/dryer in an Airbnb when we're in a place for more than 5 nights. Do you do long-term stays in hotels, too?
@NilDreams

@@dawnk107 Yep. I have noticed Airbnb’s in most countries other than US are more friendly and hospitable with the host actually being the owner and caretaker. In the US it’s become so commercialized.

It might depend on where you're staying and what your budget is. I've only used Airbnb twice, and in both cases I went for low cost and stayed in houses where the owner also was. We hung out, chatted about books. I watched a movie with the owners at the first airbnb. And the owners at both houses made me breakfast each day. The first was in Sparta, New Jersey, and the second was on the Eastern Shore in Virginia.

Air BNB favors the host in most situations and their service fees are getting outrageous. I've been burned twice this year by them and now look at hotels and realtor sites first.

Great video. You got my husband and I started in housesitting. I am curious if you have seen any liability insurance for housesitters? One thing I have not seen is anyone mentioning that there is financial risk involved with housesitting. We have had 4 sits in Denver where we live. On our 3rd sit, trying to get an excellent review, I flooded the basement by leaving the hose running outside and water got in through the window well. You can imagine my humiliation. Oh well, they were understanding. However, there homeowners insurance won't cover the damage. Trustedhousesitters is reviewing the claim submitted to them by the homeowners. It's been since July. We're not completely turned off of housesitting but I can't imagine if I had done something accidentally and one of their pet's got hurt.
@GoWithLess
@GoWithLess 2 года назад
My worst nightmare is a pet in our care harmed due to our negligence. We are uber careful as a result...more careful than with our own (former) home and pets. It's unfortunate that THS has been so slow to respond to the claim. That's what we are counting on if things go wrong. I'm very curious how this resolves. Please let me know.
@kathybartlett5827

@@GoWithLess it may not have been THS fault as the homeowners were having their first child 4 weeks after this happened. They both work full time as well. I will let you know.

Hola from Guadalajara, Mexico! With many of our viewers mentioning an interest in house sitting, we wanted to break down how it's different from staying in an Airbnb. Right now, there are 849 active house sits listed in the US on TrustedHousesitters and 1374 in the UK! There are only 71 US sits on the next most-active house sitting platform. The volume of sits on THS helps explain why it's the only site we've had any success securing sits. If you are interested in getting started as a sitter, check out this playlist of videos that will help - ru-vid.com/group/PLlF4wwaTSqbp4ojv5gSSifZ8iKOZdsRup. If you'd like to check out TrustedHousesitters as a potential house sitter or homeowner, here's our referral link which provides a discount on membership - links.gowithless.com/THS Please comment below with your experiences sitting or in Airbnbs...what did we miss? Hasta luego, Amy

I just signed up as a homeowner. I was wondering if anyone can share their experience with including a car. I am thinking I am fine with it, but I would probably want to ensure that if they had an accident that they have insurance? Right? I just increased all of my deductibles to $2500 to save on insurance because I have never had a claim and would rather save the money on insurance and only cover major damage. I just watched the video about posting your sit and I think I did good. Lots of house photos. 😀 fingers crossed!!

@debnelson5472 2 года назад
Check with your car insurance company. When I wanted to borrow a vehicle, I checked and learned that if I had an accident while driving it, it would be their insurance that would need to cover it (the liability goes with the owner of the vehicle, rather than the driver). I now knew why my father had a strict rule against any of our friends driving our cars when growing up.

Is it possible to have a house sitter in your home to care for Luna? It's not impossible to sit with a pet but it will greatly reduce your options.
