Hello! So this isn't exactly a straightforward how to video, more of a real life video of swapping out our AC on the Airstream. Please let me know if you have any questions and as always, feel free to send me an email with any questions!
I think you can buy a drip pan specifically for the Dometic A/C. It then connects to the drain tube. The advantage of using the original drain tube is to keep the condensation from dripping down the side of the trailer. If you decide to polish your trailer, then you will not like the water running down the side. But since you said that the water was running down the inside walls when using the original drain tube, I would agree that letting the condensation drip down the outside is far better than getting a wet plywood floor!!! Thanks for the videos - Keep them coming!!! A new A/C is also on my list to be replaced this year as well.
Very helpful, thank you! Although it still looks like a lot of work 😊 Would love to see a video on replacing the water heater. Ours corroded over the winter, and we’re still trying to decide whether to attempt replacing it ourselves or take it to a dealer.
I know, I almost didn't post because I felt like we complicated it too much, but I wanted it to seem real life. I've heard of dealerships charging over $1,000 to install, so in my opinion, this half day project was still worth saving the money.
You didn't complicate it at all. I just meant that climbing up on an old Airstream to get the AC off is not for the faint of heart! We've had our 72 Tradewind over four years, and still haven't worked up the courage. Dealerships don't just charge for the install, you also have to buy the unit from them at a premium, so there's a significant cost benefit here, not to mention the sense of accomplishment in doing it yourself. Kudos, and looking forward to more DIY videos!
Hey folks! Did the gasket conform to the curve of the Airstream roof or did you have to use caulking? Would love to know-I'm about to install the identical unit. Take care!
Hello! Thank you for this tutorial?! I am installing a Coleman Mach 3 onto my 31' 1976 Sovereign. What exactly did you do to make the brace you put under the roof to close the gab that was made on the back side? We are having the same issue and really don't want water pouring in!
Hey there. I made mine out of "C" channel. Then, I approximated the curve of the ceiling and cut a piece of wood on my bandsaw. I screwed that onto the "C" channel. The entire "truss" was then screwed onto the brackets that hold up the centre aluminum panel. I'd send you a picture but that doesn't seem possible on this platform.
@@JamesFunkify is there any way you can send me some more information on your bracing? I'm installing one this weekend and was just going to try and cut the curve out of 2x4 but if yours is easier I may go that direction.
What did you plug the old mounting holes that went around the parameter of the old ac with? I just took off my old air conditioner and there was about 100 rivets around the perimeter of it.
