For pilots, aircraft owners, and aviation enthusiasts, EAA AirVenture™ is the pilgrimage that must be made. Crystal and I are no exceptions! Having only been a pilot and an airplane owner for a year, the idea of flying there seemed pretty crazy! But, I was up to the challenge. From Nashville, TN to Oshkosh, WI is a 4 hour flight in N234YP, and my brother and his family live only 45 miles south of Oshkosh, so it seemed like it was time to make this journey for the first time!
We did have a dress rehearsal for this trip, with Sun and Fun '23, and we did GA Camp there for 2 nights. But, this trip seemed more "monumental" since the scale of this event is so much greater. Also, we both had to plan this around our work schedules, and minimum vacation days used. Thursday to Saturday, the days that we could make, which is towards the end of EAA AirVenture™.
After work on Wednesday night, we headed to John Tune Airport, prepped N234YP and set out on this great adventure. Even with the right EFIS flaking out, and the first leg being without Indicated Air Speed, we safely pushed through, to make it there on Thursday morning, even with the 25kn headwind most of the way!
This video is PART 1 of the EAA AirVenture 2023 trip, which is the journey getting there. It was full of surprises, scenery, and beautiful videography. The next video, PART 2, will include our flight through the Fisk Arrival, the time at the event, and the journey home, which was awesome since we had a 25kn tail wind the whole way!
