Great concept, the issue I have with ContentID is not the system itself picking up recognizable songs, it's the companies who bypass that loophole and content claim videos without even any music that is the issue for me personally. The sad thing is that whether or not you bypass the legal grey area or not, the labels are going to try their very best to rinse you anyway.
Absolutely. Every now and then I get a copyright claim for my 'Noise' plugin video. There is some guy who has managed to ContentID the sound of literal white noise and is trying to claim videos using it. Each time I have to contest it and say 'this is my literal software making this noise as you see in the video' and the challenge goes away. In some ways it's not the labels that are your biggest problem with ContentID :)
It's on my github but I can't build anything more than a single vst3 for my own Mac. I have seen a Linux user say they were able to compile it from source. The goal is to eventually make it available for download in all the ways JUCE allows :)

Having random silence outside of content hiding could be useful too. But if someone did use it for hiding content would there be a chance of a channel being deleted if RU-vid upgraded their detection one day? Say someone used this in 20 different videos then suddenly they all get flagged at once. Or if enough individuals reported a video to get a human review, would trying to get around their detection system in this way be a big punishment? Just curious cuz I know it's a "use at your own risk" sort of thing.
I have no control over RU-vid, plus content owners could straight up sue you if they want to. It's 'content-hide-d', not 'get out of jail free' :) it is, however, good at making audio NOT function as a song, so it's hard to call the result 'playing the song in an unauthorized way' and it gives you more weight to a 'fair use' argument when it cannot be used in the usual way, just your educational (read: unlistenable) way.
between this kind of public study/education, the upcoming consoles (given how much the kalman-related plugins are already changing how I do things), and the rocket booster acoustic observations feeding into discontinuity,,,, you've got me super excited. a cynical part of me is disdainful of believing in any particular developer like i have come to with you, and that part of me can shutup.
I can only go so fast, so you might have to be patient. I'm going as fast as I can. It just builds on years of other stuff that seemingly wasn't as exciting: being persistent is good :) if you're really excited for Discontinuity you can have that next?
technically this is exciting and a novel approach to this problem, but I doubt people would rather automatically silence their content than just avoiding copyrighted content in the first place to avoid trouble. because it's just really unpleasant sounding without the fascination for the technical details
Streamers often react to gaming events, award shows, announcements, etc that often contain copyrighted music outside of their control, so editors have to manually go through and mute things/isolate the voice for youtube uploads so things like this definitely have a niche
Surge XT exists :) the only thing I don't enjoy about it is it runs a 32-bit buss. And I mix in 64-bit Reaper anyway: I can use any plugins I'd use inside Surge, as external Reaper plugins in 64-bit. I would honestly rather use Surge XT: the 32-bitness means I can run it at 96k without the slightest hiccup, and there's just about nothing I can't do with it and Reaper if I try.
