To bad that you did not say anything about the frozen arm on the left. That is one of the problems I was having. I only used solvent, oil and heat with the soldering iron like you did and I was able to get it loose. I did not want to remove the head assembly because I don't have proper tape to realign the heads.
I have the same deck. It will play but will stop after the tape is about halfway through. Can you fix it and do any other repairs? I live in Thousand Oaks, CA
This is a more complicated device. The source of the error must be narrowed down. It doesn't make a sound, one side makes a sound or none at all, displays move, there is sound on the headphones, or no sound on the line output, etc. The head or the wiring may be faulty. But it is also possible that a microswitch has a contact fault. Or the recording slide switch is faulty.
@@retrodeck1956 I narrowed it down to an open coil on the head. I have rewired the head to use the record head and I am now getting sound through both channels. The highs are not as good as the record and playback heads are a different ohm rating. Would you know if its possible to open up the heads? Or would there be an alternative head that would fit?
@@davejames737 Then you know what's wrong. I didn't take the Gx head apart. But I don't think it can be fixed. They rarely sell disassembled parts, I would replace them.
hello, I have the same Deck, a question, if it is a little slow, how do I regulate the speed of the motor? Other cassette decks I have have a screw in the motor.
I checked the pinch roller you wrote about, the tape guide cannot touch it. Maybe the tape guide is broken? The tape guide is trained in such a way that a kicker pushes it and the arm prevents it from touching the pinch roller.
@@retrodeck1956 I installed the new belts last night and I was operating the deck and noticed that when I pressed play sometimes the deck would play fine and sometimes the tape guide would put pressure on the pinch rollers. I have cleaned some of the old grease on the transport and applied new grease but the transport keeps sticking and not sliding properly. It is either moving up too much or not enough. I will have to keep on troubleshooting and hopefully I can find the cause of the problem.
