@@Jason75913 They could have had something with the Maschine+ but it's severely underpowered. Perhaps if they added more processing power into one of the Keyboards they already have...

@@lucid484 That groovebox seems over-ambitious. Plus it probably needs a beefy ARMv8 CPU to be able to run stuff that its Atom CPU is incompatible with.

@@ProducingBonedo Yes, but can you play a part in a multitrack or split the keyboard with 2 arps like on the Korg Kross? I would expect it to at least have a backing self-playing drum track for each synth preset that you could play along with or song files with 8-16 parts and you could play one or two of them.

Might be lacking due to its software coming from a background of hiphop and electronica, but they will surely update it with whatever is lacking if enough people request, it runs the same software as their MPC grooveboxes. And keep in mind that this is a much more serious sampler beyond what Korg, Roland, and Yamaha bother to attempt, you always have the option of sampling whatever you may need, even multisamples. Better insert FX, too

@@Jason75913 True but you can do all the sampling on the other MPCs. If they're realising a production workstation then they should account for HQ acoustic sounds on the level of competitor workstations

Sounds are good for what it is - but u can't compare it to a full blown Orchester rig on a Pc or Mac - that's for sure!

To be honest the acoustic brass sounds you can get on MPC aren’t great, though I’m not sure what’s in Fabric. You can build your own up by multi sampling from other instruments, records etc, but that’s obviously a lot of work. ( I got round this by sampling sounds from Korg and Roland) I really hope Akai come out with more plug ins like the strings one. Or at least top quaility multi sample packs.

those might be missing sounds, Akai better be working on them if they want this keyboard to be a hit, I sure hope they stir up the keyboard market enough with this and force Korg, Roland, and Yamaha to step up their game, they are still putting lo-fi samples and mediocre CPUs in their products, especially Roland bonus points if Native Instruments joins in on the action with a standalone Kontakt keyboard

@@hahhahahahha Andy Mac says otherwise and I did see 1 video where it appears that Tim Kelley plays drum sounds via the keys. But every video I've seen other than that makes no mention of being able to do so nor do they show it in the video.

If I'm understanding correctly, you can load drum kits and play them from the keys (or pads).

It's the latest in a long line of sample-based workstations that people invented hip-hop on. This one just happens to have a standard keyboard added.

Look at the MPC One, Live and X. It’s like these plus a keyboard and extra functions.

That's what I suspect, hopefully Akai plans to improve that aspect. Akai seems somewhat more supportive of their products than Roland, Korg, and Yamaha are of their own, so I think it is a likely possibility that Akai will make this beast a little better over time. I wish them the best, force the big R, K, and Y to finally stop dragging their feet and skimping out on their products. Native Instruments is likely to follow suit with a killer keyboard, crossing my fingers for a Kontakt keyboard, that will surely kill everything else with its sounds. I hope it won't be another buggy Maschine+ but with keys, although it likely might. The weaknesses of this MPC Keys, from what I gather, are a sluggish interface when demoing/changing sounds and the lack of a unified patch search. You have to choose specific sample libraries in order to search for sounds, one library at a time and only within the chosen library, so browsing patches sucks majorly versus Korg and Roland keyboards. No patch remain, either, so swapping patches cuts off sound. The biggest strengths are the sequencer, sampling, and insert FX capabilities, it blows the competition out of the water and out of planetary orbit. Also the sample libraries exclusive to this keyboard sound a little better than Nautilus' best, to my ears, so quite the value proposition, up to a point.

@@Jason75913 Well....since the MPC Key 61 has an optional SSD upgrade, there must be(or will be future upgrades in terms of sample libraries)...so I think this keyboard will be a worthwhile investment.

Honestly though, add the Roland Integra and this might be the best unit.

That’s interesting. I thought the acoustic pianos on this sounded much more 3d than anything on the Roland Fantom for example. Just shows how our ears differ. And what we become accustomed to.

If you’re making hip hop and r&b? The functionality and character is indistinguishable. Fulfills it’s purpose. Are there greater quality sounds? Sure. Just load them in.

this thing beats Juno-DS easily, which MX49 can't even beat 😆 get better speakers?
