The Akaso with the mic not blocked like you had makes it almost an identical mic quality as the GoPro. I know you didn't go back and make a comparison again but it would have been nice to see and hear. I have both of these cameras and they are almost identical in mic quality. The GoPro is definitely better in video quality like 4k 60fps having stabilization where the akaso doesn't have stabilization at 4k 60fps, just 4k 30fps. GoPro of course also has some of it's other perk features like protune and a few other things as you mentioned. But the akaso is a great budget action camera and and its 1/3 of the price of the GoPro. Another thing is the akaso has never had issues with freezing up or corrupt and lost video like the GoPro is very well known for. Pretty sure with the new firmware on the akaso it makes it a lot more stabilized too. If I had to guess your akaso is running on the old firmware. Every video comparison I have watched between these two cameras, every single one of them change something on the akaso whether it be the settings of color or an issue with the mic or stabilization left off or something, not making it a good head to head comparison. Not asking you to go back and do it again I just think it may be who is paying the most for the review or something maybe. I don't know. I do love and watch all of your videos and have been a long time subscriber. Still waiting on your review video for the video doorbell too, hope it comes out soon. Thanks for doing this video. Im definitely going to look at the firmware for the Akaso. Do you know what the current firmware is? And Im still waiting on the video doorbell that I ordered to arrive. Hopefully soon. I had received a different one but had nothing but issues with setting it up, so back it went. Anyways thanks for the amazing comment! And for being a sub! Much appreciated.

Thanks for doing this. I just ordered the Akaso 50 Pro SE. When you are trying to compare audio, you have to adjust the volume so that they are the same level. You also need to record silence so that can determine the self noise. I don't know if you can set the audio levels in the cameras or if they are always on auto levels.

Thanks for the review. I believe if I was recording for the purpose of production video (ie: RU-vid presentation) the GoPro would win if it fits the budget. Otherwise the Akaso is certainly meeting any needs I would have. As for sound, as you mentioned, the Akaso does not match the GoPro but it certainly reaches the level of 'more than good enough'.

Totally agree. I love the quality that comes out of the Akaso. Great camera at the price. If you can afford the GoPro it is definitely a better camera, but I would think for most, not worth the price increase.

I bought 2 of the akaso v50 Pro SE and you can definitely see the quality in my videos of having a budget camera. I'm going to pull the trigger on the GoPro 7 black this summer. Not having the ability of having a wireless mic is killing me...

I´ve just bought the Akaso, and as you say my decision was mainly for a budgetary point of view. I am not a pro, I just want to record a new activity and maybe upload it to YT. The camera seems more than good enough for that, specially for the huge amount of accesories it has. The only drawback it has is the lack of gps. I´d have liked to edit my videos with some telemetry. The gps in the Go Pro combined with its quik software is definitely what I needed. But my purse needs another thing.

Excellent topic ! Too funny ..... I am in this particular pickle since last week ! I leaning towards the Akaso Pro SE for my upcoming spring / summer camping and touring motovlog trip coast to coast. (Not for professional purposes but just to capture my adventures and share with friends and family) Oh, I will get a 3 axis Gimble drone too. I’ve been following you for a while and honestly this was the best review as far as “adding value to the consumer”. It really outlines what each consumer should buy based on their own needs. Love your channel. That being said, I don’t see the value in comparing out of class cameras. There isn’t one among us who given the purchase power would not buy a GoPro. However, especially in these times, we have some money in our household budgets (be we single or attached) for a quality (many features best bang for the buck) budget camera up to $150. This is why I have enjoyed and valued your in class comparisons. Just saying, if I had the dough to buy the GoPro I would no questions asked, I wouldn’t even look or pay attention to Akaso cameras. That being said, in the sub $150 market I think they are the best camera and the one to beat. Campark is a close second but they don’t give you an external battery charger. So my vote for your comparison videos is to stay in class. Compare GoPro with the DJI Osmio etc. do more sub $150 cameras.

The reason for the comparison is simple. People ask for it. The GoPro is the standard. So people want to know how close the 2 cameras are to each other. And even people that can afford the GoPro may not if the quality of the 2 are close enough. I can afford a GoPro but depending on the needs of the camera would still prefer to buy the Akaso and pocket the extra cash. So there is always reason to compare with the 'standard'.

Hi Greg, thank you for your review. I was close to buy a used GoPro Hero 7 (still pricey) but now I am considering a new AKASO V50 Pro SE. I want it mostly to put on my road bike in case I have an accident and occasional take it in nature walks or on my holidays. I tried to find it in Best Buy but it doesn't sell that model. Do you know if it is worth it buying it directly from AKASO? I am based in Ottawa and I don't know if I would need to pay import charges, etc. Thanks!

I just got my Akaso V50 Pro SE. I have a couple of questions. Do you know what the scene modes, riding, manual water, winter etc do? I don't see any description in the manual. Have you ever got the HDMI port to work? When I plugged it in the back of the camera went black but nothing appeared in the monitor.

brave 7 (not LE) might have been a better comparison as it has waterproofing, dual screens, and external mic option.

Adam both are good. The only real bonus of the SE is 4K60. But no EIS at that setting. So I usually only use 4K30 anyways.

The v50 pro is fine in the day. But it has the tendency to over sharpen everything and it doesnt even capture the details. It hurts my eye. Idk how to describe it. It just looks odd

@@xLeidenFrost the v50 definitely hurts when it is not in bright light. the GoPro is much better. If you need a camera for low light then the GoPro is the clear winner and its a worthy investment.

Well, as an Akaso owner V50 Pro & EK7000 I was wondering what I was missing. Not much at all. The Akaso does have a night vison that works very well, however, you would need to go into the settings and change it to go outside again which is a little more work. Picture quality and field of view is nothing to even notice really in my opinion. The sound I believe on the second try was very very close if not the same. I would estimate the Akaso has 2/3rds of the quality for 1/3 of the price. I am still very very happy with my purchase of the Akaso!! Thanks Greg!

Are you sure it was the SE? I know the SE had a special logo on its front.

Hen Papirman yes it’s the SE. and not all SE versions have the logo. But all SE versions are black in colour over the non SE which is grey. Plus only the SE can shoot in 4K60p. The normal V50pro only has 4K30p. So yes it’s the SE version.

@@gregtoope My camera is delayed!! Stuck in Miami 🥴 And till then I just keep watching this video repeatedly and feel happy that I bought it after watching one of your review. While you walk with both cameras, I noticed that akaso behaves like osmo action, subject (face) is a little soft and tree branches are sharp...but with Gopro its the other way round. Subject looks sharp while tree branches were soft. Take a look :)

The Brave 7 doesn't support external mics. So if you want to motovlog then its a no go. Id actually go with the Brave 6 Plus as the mic is much better sounding than the v50 Pro. But really all depends on how important the external mic is.

CC, i don't care about external mic, or a front screen. i do want 4K/60fps, excellent photo taking ability and excellent image stabilization. i don't plan on vlog creation. i want a durable, water-proof action cam for mainly point-and -shoot and videos on my motorcycle. @@atheistmetal1 So the Brave 6 Plus and the Brave 7 LE have Akasos second-generation EIS. So both should be better in regards to image quality, but I don't believe either has 60fps in 4K. If you really want 4K/60FPS with excellent IS I would save a few more dollars and look around for a GoPro Hero 7 Black. Its 2 generations old now so you should be able to find them at a fairly good price and their IS is amazing and the camera will give you amazing 4K/60 and you get their super-wide as an option. Which is great for capturing while riding!

The akaso is good, but the gopro shoots wider. if you need the width then the gopro is the clear winner. but for the price of the gopro you could buy 2-3 of the akaso cameras. And make sure to take a look at the new Akaso Brave 7 LE. It has great build quality. Only issue is that it doesn't have mic support. But if you are just mounting it to the vehicle then that shouldn't be a concern.

I have the v50pro and the hero8. V50 pro has this over sharpness problem in 4k. It's the kind that hurts your eye because its harsh and it doesnt have a lot of details. The hero 8 is a lot less harsh on the eye and has way more details.

@@gregtoope yeah thanks. I know gopro has an ultra wide setting and so does the Akaso, so was wondering.... It's hard to find a direct comparison of widest shots. But right now you can get these for only $80 difference, makes the Gopro more appealing because of the stability alone, but still wondering how close the wide videos are?

@@3SonsRC the wide is much wider on the GoPro. But if you are going to be using an external mic that's a fairly big addon in regards to price. The adapter alone is worth about $75-90. So that has to be considered as well.

@@gregtoope thanks for checking. The wide angle is #1 for me as I launch RC Trucks huge and need to capture the whole thing while there moving 60mph! So I might have to do the Gopro, they are about $80 different on Amazon right now so that's not crazy. I don't really care about audio quality much as long as it's solid out of the camera. Thanks again for your help. For me at least there is a reason why GP is the king, but a secondary cheap Akaso one might be an option

@7:05 if u pause here u see why all cheap 4K cameras suck. They look like 480p, not 4K. Just look at the beard. Go Pro sharp on every hair, Akose just blurs the beard. Cheap 4K is not 4K, never. Makes me sad tho because i would like myself some cheap 4K but not when it looks like 480p

Again I get pre-release versions of hardware and software, so they are not always labelled. But thanks again for being negative and thinking the worse of people.
