I'm ashamed to admit that I once thought of Al Gore as boring and insignificant. This guy is a hero and certainly one of the most important politicians in America right now. Imagine where we might be as a country today if the election had not been stolen from him.

OK, so do you agree that a “Leader” should “set an example”? If so, you would *despise* Al Gore. Each of his (un-lived in 90% of the year) mansions - use 25 times (or more) what an average American uses in their house. is this a “great example”?? He wants *us* to stop using fuel, but not _him_ . Next, he uses his private jet (uses more fuel each trip - than you use in your car in 8 years) to go to every speech. I ask you again: is he being a good “example”?? If they *really* believed in sea level rise, why would both Al Gore and Billl Gates buy 40 million dollar *beachfront* mansions. Those are rhetorical, but if you *really* think he is a good Leader after just these 2 examples (I have *many* more) - than I have just 1 more rhetorical question for you: 100,000 sperm , and *you* were the fastest????

Honestly Al Gore isn't the best candidate because he has money. You might not see this as a bad thing and neither do I but a lot of people still do sadly. He went from a 1.7M$ worth to something like 200M$ which proves to me he has enough intelligence to adapt to society and understands that you won't change the world significantly from the outside. Too many people in the green movement are buzy petting their own ego rather than actually trying to change society.

You know it's possible to do both, Bill? We can shoot for Mars AND make it better here on earth. Most people aren't looking at it as a backup planet. A lot of us just enjoy the pioneering spirit of it all. Plus the new rocket technology opens up tons of innovation that could make things better here. If you can't understand why people are working toward this goal then you lack imagination. Your argument against Mars is mind boggling.

Mann MachineCO yeah but maybe that money is rightfully given maybe the military should be cut from instead , we can do both , let NASA do its thing , what does NASA has to do with this , it's 2 unrelated things , but the part where he is right mn is the illusion that if anything goes wrong here we can easily move there , but there is also the possibility that sth that we have no control of could happen here , so we are trying to have a back up planet just it's not gonna be by our choice that we leave earth for it bcs the earth is much better

Bill Maher is an idiot, technologically illiterate. He knows about as much about Mars exploration and development as he knows about climate change mitigation that is zero on both subjects. Only a friggin' moron would claim we are attempting to make a 2nd home on Mars so humans can vacate Earth. Yes we can accuse the world leaders of causing a mass extinction on this Earth, through their fossil fuels, well on the positive side, on Mars we can create a Genesis Event. Mars sits there barren & lifeless and yet it is in fact a life bomb waiting to explode and only we lowly humans can light the fuse. Achieve what no other species can do, the procreation of Mother Earth. Giving birth to a Living Mars would be the greatest event in the history of terrestrial life since the Cambrian explosion of life 540 million years ago. The most selfless and creative act in the history of human civilization as well as the most wonderful act of environmental stewardship that any species have ever done on this Earth. Our success with Mars terraforming and rebirth would compensate for the damage we have done to Mother Earth by a thousand fold. Indeed our failure to use our ability to do this act environmental genesis is the greatest act of environmental destruction humans have ever done. In any case, there is *no technical difficulty in getting off fossil fuels*, the problem is that our governments, our politicians including Oh-Bomb-Ya and Al Gore, our media including Bill Maher, our institutions, NGO's like Greenpeace, Sierra Club, NRDC, FOE have all been corrupted by the unbelievable levels of fossil fuel cash. Al Gore & Bill Maher are two of the biggest proponents of fossil fuel on the planet. They offer nothing but a plan for us to remain entrapped by the fossil hegemony until we actually run out of the stuff. As such both Bill Maher and Al Gore are part of the Controlled Opposition, promoting nutty scams like wind & solar, hydrogen, agrofuels, CCS, tidal, wave all of which have zero chance of getting us off of fossil. There is one and only one alternative to our fossil fuel addiction and that is nuclear energy. People like Maher and Gore who oppose nuclear are in fact solid supporters of fossil and bigger promoters of runaway Climate Change than Trump.

Totally agree. People who think that the reason to explore Mars is to cultivate it as some kind of "backup-planet" are just as idiotic as climate-change-deniers or flat-earthers. Space-exploration has huge benefits. It can unite a country, it advances science and our understanding of the universe/natural world, it creates jobs, etc. Question is, if we're living in a world where something as enormous as the Apollo-program would still fly politically. I'm pretty sure that had it not been for the Cold War, we still wouldn't have landed on the moon. And these days? Good luck trying to get the funding for something like Apollo - let alone the much more ambitious (and more expensive) program you would need to land people on Mars. The US can't even agree to fund renovation of their own crumbling infrastructure.

My brother-in-law talked with me last Fall about coal mining in his native West Virginia. Unfortunately, that state has absolutely no diversity in their economy. It's all about coal, and when the industry had a downturn, the entire state was devastated. I get that people are frustrated and scared for their futures, but his attitude is equally frustrating to those of us who don't live there: "They keep talking about retraining. What are we going to retrain for, working at McDonald's?!? That's all that's left." Coal is the past, but it's all these people know. When you start telling them about the virtues of new industry and how it gives people options, they just blow it off. These people actually WANT to go back into the mines and are not interested in anything else. It just blows my mind...

You're right mobspeak, it's all about money and nothing about scientific facts. Co2 is heavier than air and does not float, but sinks to the ground. You can type in you tube search "Co2 is heavier than air demonstration" and global warming freak, Al Gore, is instantly debunked.
@ceonikhilpande
@ceonikhilpande 6 лет назад
CO2 is heavier than air but air is a mixture of ALL gases. When we release CO2 into the atmosphere we are literally dumping more and more particles into ALL air on earth. We are warming all air on earth, this is what is raising the earth's temperature overall. This is what's contributing to sea level rise and freak weather. Some Hot places are getting hotter, some cold places colder but overall average temp is rising. Exactly like how you raise the volume on a speaker. Peaks get bigger, troughs get lower but the volume is higher. CO2 absorbs infrared light (gains energy) and the light the earth's surface radiates is in the infrared spectrum, so CO2 essentially absorbs some of the heat that gets bounced back into space. Add more CO2, the more heat is absorbed. CO2 doesn't have to be in the upper atmosphere or something to cause warming, it just has to be present in the air. There's nothing wrong with this it's just that in the last 100 years the levels of CO2 have gone past the natural equilibrium, the normal state/level. This is why more ice sheets are melting now and faster than ever before and is also why we humans are causing it cos since we output 100 times more CO2 than all volcanoes combined (29 billion tonnes per year). This isn't natural, and the environment is reacting to the change regardless of what we humans are doing. All of what I have just said can be proved to you in simple easy demonstrations. You could literally do it yourself. You don't need climate scientists to tell you that humanity's fossil fuel addiction is concerning. You can use your own head to realise that continually dumping these greenhouse gases is unsustainable and will lead to negative consequences.

+MrJimmyJammers and +Davey Numz --> The ends justifies the means in this case. How would he be able to do this work without "modern" amenities like flying around the globe negotiating etc. False equivalence indeed. It's just misdirection on your part to mention that. I need to fly sometimes. Do I feel bad that I'm contributing to climate change? Sure! Of course. However, I do my very best in my personal life to minimize my carbon footprint, save water, mulch the garden, plant climate appropriate vegetation, have a North-facing home (I'm in the Southern Hemisphere) that doesn't require much heating during the Winter months, drive a modest hybrid, vote for the party more likely to implement climate change, etc. etc. It is not an exact science, but what matters is that I am aware of my impact on global climate change and I try to minimize it. Every little bit helps. Feeling that your contribution is small doesn't matter. That you do something is what matters. Al Gore and his family don't need to do this at all. They could live very well, retired from politics, enjoying their inherited wealth (from tobacco, something Gore doesn't deny). He is aware of the impact they and other wealthy tobacco plantation owners had on people's health (which is why he took the family out of that business). (As an aside, D Trump will always act in ways to extract the most profit he can from any deal, even if it is bad for climate change. He is part of a global "elite" (I say that tongue-in-cheek as the man is really uncouth) that do not care about the impact they have on our world, as long as their coffers get fuller and fuller (fuller than even the a wealthy person needs). Sitting around and pointing at a man who has been one of the most influential in the climate change movement to provide awareness and get people and countries to start looking at the issue and acting on it, is churlish at best. Having your head in the sand (if you are a climate change denier, simply because it is expedient for a political party to push that rhetoric), says very little good about you, Sir! Instead, join the movement by doing something yourself. (Edited to add the names if the commenters I'm responding to, add the D Trump comment and and fixed some grammar)
