It went into this "no talent-computer-dependent-so-called-artist", Seeing this i'm so sure that we have hit the peak of soul and we never ever will see another AL GREEN with the smooth and wonderful production from a true giant like WILLIE MITCHELL.
Al Green's music is absolutely timeless; will never get old; transcends time, genre, race and all barriers. Thankyou Rev. Green for your contributions to the music world, you will NEVER be forgotten....
Al Green and his band, and the funky way they recorded his first records, with the scratchy horns, that Hammond organ created a sound and music that was totally in a class in itself. His emotional falsetto, unique resonance of his body, created a new different 'color' in the sound of a soul singer. PERFECTION skinny body, and soul which oozed out his pores with every note, cemented him into fabric of Soul soul music.. Memphis, and Motown. I loved. The instrumentation and arrangements of those early songs, cemented and syndicated him into something totally unique.
This is a man whose psyche, voice & music exemplified Romantic Love; when all the things called "Valuable" in our civilization are counted and ranked, this damn well should be at the top no matter where the rocket engines take the human race.
Happy 76th Birthday today April 13, 2022 to the great Al Green, born April 13, 1946. Al Green is one of the most enduring soul singers of the rock era, and is considered by many the most important male singer since Sam Cooke. He has also been referred to as "The Last of the Great Soul Singers." His early 70s work on Hi Records sounds as good today as it did then, and his legend has continued to grow over the past quarter century even as he generally turned his back on popular music. Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the BMI Icon award and is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. He was included in the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, ranking at No. 65, as well as its list of the 100 Greatest Singers, at No. 14.
Apparently Al was booked to sing at a funeral. All of the folks in the room patiently waited for Al to finish so the eulogy could continue. They wanted to move to the music and react to it, but, you know, it was a funeral so....
Still love this man, now he sings for God, when I was young n others like me, had a real deep crush on him, he doesn’t know how much women loves him then n still now

My girlfriend saw him in concert in the seventies. Got there early to get in front because he gave out red roses. We didn’t get a rose but amazing concert. Never forget it!
i always enjoyed watching Reverend Al Green LIVE.....He is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MALE R&B SINGER, Followed by Marvin Gaye (Distant Lover), Otis Redding (Try a Little Tenderness, Cigarettes and Coffee) Barry White (Just The Way You Are, Your My First, My Last, My Everything) Selah
First comment said it ALL. No lip sync, auto tune.... Pure true raw talent , this generation of real honest talent singers would laugh at lip syncing your song for pay -- not current singers, even the Mariah Carey s' and she can blow
I am so glad i got to witness greatness in the 70's in Al Green and another favorite of mine of that era Teddy Pendergrass. Imagine having two of the greatest that ever lived singing their hits and be able to see both live. I am blessed and full of the best everlasting memories of my musical life.
LovingAtlanta Lost mine early too, but we cherish the memories like these don't we?! We used to jam together, some of my most cherished memories! Keep your head up! 💝💝💝
LovingAtlanta sorry bout your Mamma. I lost mine this February ..she taught me how to dance on the kitchen floor on Saturday nights when my Daddy was out working on driilibgs rigs in the gulf. Great legacy they left us with of great CLASSY Music and Classy but Sassy dancing to great music. May she bring a smile to your face every time she comes to your mind.
@@billv1072 I agree that the original recording is probably better. But don’t disrespect the great Tina Turner by calling her version, which some considers iconic, to be a “little karaoke”. Rude 😑
@@MarciaSantos-ox1fk I've listened to the best for many years, and am entitled to my opinion. Respect has nothing to do with it. Tina Turner was a great talent, and will be sadly missed. But on this song, I believe her cover was merely "passable". Maybe listen a little more before you call someone rude? Not everyone has to agree with you, or with me. It's ok.
@@billv1072 well clearly there’s something wrong with your ears for you to refer to Tina’s version, which was a monster hit record, as “passable”. Tina’s version not only went to no.1 in several countries but was also the best selling 12” record in 1984 thereby outselling Al’s version. Of course you’re entitled to your “opinion” but I’m also entitled to call out your BS statement and pathetic attempt to diminish Tina’s success with the record.
I love me an audience who does nothing but pause everything and just enjoy the music and relax to the tune, huge respect if you ask me. But let's not talk about this generation, would have been doing the most, screaming across the room, cell phones out, not enjoying the moment... This is what life is about ppl, soak it all into your soul not SD card.
