@@lauralockhart7777 Ok so the media kept saying he wasnt nefarious or sinister enough but I watched the movie again and the second time you pick up more and honestly he is pretty scary for Jafar. He even kills someone in the movie -- that's bold for Disney standards and something the '92 Jafar didnt do. He also speaks of his past in having buried bodies (John Wick reference maybe?) so yeah he's pretty evil.
actually his casual look could have been styled a bit to make it more formal..tuck in the shirt, add necktie, bow tie or scarf and change the shoes to boots. the bomber jacket still looks rugged but with the added details it would be ok. i guess he does not have a stylist or Disney did not hook him up with one. Oh well, but that boo boo is for me makes him more endearing and relatable
I'm happy when non-English (native) speaking actors are cast in such huge movies. Not saying American/British/Canadian/Australian actors don't deserve attention and roles, but the majority of the actors in big production movies are always from there, when there are so many other actors who speak English well enough too and know how such movies are made. This reminds the world other countries exist in the moviemaking industry where equally talented actors play
I’ve seen the movie twice just for Marwan and I’m considering seeing it again. He was great as Jafar and he’s also incredibly attractive! We need to see him in more roles!
I’m going to say he was filming The Old Guard when Aladdin premiered. He’s sporting the same hairstyle his character, Joe has. Another great film of Marwan.
Right?? I was thinking the exact same thing! I met Marwan through The Old Guard, and I've just been loving each one of the movies he was in. He's such a great actor, and soo humble!! He's also really poetic and intellectual, like Joe is. He really is a loveable guy!
I'm happy to see many positive comments here. It wasn't too long ago that many comments on RU-vid were about Marwan not looking slimy enough or not sounding evil enough, lol. Evil--doesn't always look they way it's often portrayed in cartoons, folks. I really enjoyed Marwan as Jafar. I enjoyed everyone in the roles they played, new characters and old. Will played an excellent Genie. I know I'm going to ruffle some feathers with this comment, but ruffle them I'm gonna, Will was a much better Genie than Robin Williams, IMHO. Cartoon emotions are great and all, but they're often over the top. Sure, Genie was over the top at times--when he was a genie--but in his human form, he was pretty down to earth, and I enjoyed that side of him thoroughly. I doubt these live action remakes will see sequels like their animated counterparts, but if they ever got one, I'd watch it in a heartbeat. Guy Richie was the right director for the job. He had a great team of actors and film crew to bring this fun classic to life.
OMG yes thank you so much for saying that you wouldn't mind seeing a live-action sequel to Aladdin because I was talking about that with my friend Andrew and we both agreed that it would be a brilliant idea. King of Thieves especially would be so great in live-action cause it has such an engaging story and I always liked that sequel
Me!! I got sooo stuck with Joe's character, my favourite both in the movie and the comic. And I love Marwan so much! Such a talented actor, kind human being, amazing person, overall great!!
All these “he’s Dutch” , “No he’s Tunisian” comments...so petty🙄..Let’s clear this up so yall can go on with your lives: His parents were born in Tunisia. He was born in The Hague. So he’s Dutch with Tunisian roots... Can everybody live with that? Good.
I will say that I preferred Jafar’s characterization in the original, where he’s not so obviously scheming and doesn’t lose his temper until the very end. However, Marwan did a great job at the Jafar that he was told to portray! He’s a very talented actor and I wish he had more screen time in the film. And as a person? He’s so humble and adorable. I’m so glad that he got all this love, what a cutie! ❤️
Aladdin looks too feminine, I'm not into that. He looks like a little boy, I'll leave him for the tween girls who like that look. Leave hot Jafar for the grown women who like a manly look.
Ikr!!!😍 mena is so hot and he has an amazing smile!❤I think jafar looks like he could be like a homeless dude.(no offense he is an amazing actor and a great guy) but just the facial hair. Mena is def more my type but I like em both!
Jasmine was 15 in the story. They didn't want a grown man kissing an underaged girl. They did not want to sexualize Jasmine, in the animated film, she pretends to become smitten by Jafar and it's just inappropriate.
CineVore I agree wholeheartedly. His acting was AMAZING, he made that written character believable. However, I didn’t like how they made him in the movie either.
the movie is soooo much fun and magical! ahh had such a good time. the performances are incredible. Especially Jasmine! she steals the show! seriously. Definitely my favorite Disney Live-Action remake so far.
You know, before when this movie released, when watching the trailers, people are 100% sure Jasmine will end up with Aladdin and gets their happily ever after just like the classic. But just imagine this and see: when the movie releases on the first day, people are sure Jasmine will 100% end up with Aladdin, but in the end, she chooses Jafar and marries him, imagine the crowd's reaction when watching ❤❤❤❤❤🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sometimes, you can never tell. Disney might plan to change just like how they did for Maleficent. Aurora did not awoke when her prince kissed her, but only by Maleficent's kiss in the end. But I really liked the story since its different. 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Still riding on the HOT JAFAR team and glad he made an effort at LA. Just disappointed with Jafar’s character and motive not being handled properly due to script and editing issues. I think Marwan did his best with what he was given... his ‘attraction’ towards Jasmine could have been explored better. He can’t just only be power hungry.
Is it only me? I just didn’t believe the actor who played Jafar. Like he wouldn’t scare me or wanted to be far away from him like the original movie. I would have liked to see a more evil Jafar... his face is too friendly I guess. The actor, in my opinion, wasn’t the best fit for the movie.
Great Interview! Props to U Marwan Kenzari for taking on such an evil role. Not easy to do for many reasons. Awesome work. I would love to see much more of your talent💪🏽💪🏽
Genie-Will Smith,Aladdin-Menna Massoud,Jasmine-Naomi Scott,Jafar-Marwan Kenzari, know who y'all are ofc everybody knows laugh out loud!,this actors from Aladdin is great!,confident, *wink wink*
I guess everyone kept telling him "jafar too handsome to play a villain".. Get it?? See what i did there?? Cuz it sounds like "you're far too handsome" except i used his name. . ur welcome everyone😏👌👌👌
