Alan Bates tells inquiry the Post Office lied for '23 years to discredit and silence me'

Former sub-postmaster Alan Bates has told the Horizon IT inquiry that the Post Office was determined to protect its brand at all costs.
He said the Post Office spent 23 years trying to "discredit and silence" him after he raised concerns with the accounting software, just months after it was introduced.

What is frightening is how close the Post Office came to getting away with it. Criminals were in charge of a major national service and politicians of both major parties, also keen to protect their brands, aided and abetted. Words fail me.

Alan Bates deserves to be awarded for his fight for the justice for so many innocents. Given a seat in the House of Lords more innocents would have a true voice on their side. What a shame so few MP's would fight their causes for 23 years.

Alan Bates should get a knighthood for standing up for the truth and his fellow postmasters/postmistress who did absolutely nothing except work with a failed system.

Royal mail did the same to me for 16yrs out of 26 until I had a breakdown and left. Bullies the lot of them and some who preyed on me are still there........

What a formidable individual Mr Bates is... POL certainly picked the wrong person to try and intimidate. He will be recorded as the person that thwarted a multi million pound business and in time records will show that POL eventually capitulated to the Stoic personality of a real old fashioned Englishman. I dip my forehead to this outstanding man.

A similar way I was treated at the company I worked for for almost 30 years because I asked questions and was not a yes man, I worked so hard to get to senior management only to be let go, as my new boss couldn’t manage me.

In any business things can go wrong. If the Post Office had played the game and worked with their Post Masters they would have come out of this far far better than they will do now. Clearly the morals of ALL the senior management has to be bought in to question. Profit above all else. Where is my BONUS????

Paula Vennels, Tim Parker and Ed Davey too. We all know what will happen though. They will hire top lawyers who will do whatever it takes to keep these people out of court. The individuals will lie low for a while, until the media lose interest, and then walk into top jobs with other companies. Ruthless liars with no empathy or conscience and impressive CVs are always in demand in business.

If I installed a new system and all of a sudden 1000s of supervisory people were declared by the new software to be thieves, I would be suspicious that the 1 new software was broken and the 1000s of people who had been there for years were not.

The money to reimburse the SPMRs needs to come out of the pockets of the bosses who slandered them. And it needs to include the ones to took a plea bargain to avoid having the full weight of POL from coming down on them with no hope of a fair trial.

The British Post Office sounds like the Banks that continuously extend loans because they don’t want to admit that the loans are in default. It would reveal their flaws in judgment and the fact that an asset has turned into a liability.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😉😉😉
