"Wings - the band that the Beatles could have been!" Alan tells about his favorite music after buying a state of the art Bang & Olufsen stereo. Very funny Partridge moment!
Fun Fact: In 2006 I was in Norfolk collecting an Anvil, after quite by chance driving past The Linton Travel Tavern I decided this was my only chance to pay a pilgrimage to such Hallowed Ground, my girlfriend and I had a great meal and she cringed as I made the inevitable 'Big-Plate' and Valentines Day jokes with the waitress. After a great Steak n' Ale Pie we continued on, remarking how it was EXACTLY the same as it was in the TV series! However, it wasn't until three years later that I discovered it was filmed in the studio... I still have no idea where I ate that day... or what Stargate Partridge Portal... an Alan 'Partal' we had momentarily passed through that day... but now at least it explains why the waitress didn't laugh!
In my opinion, Alan Partridge is one of the best comedy creations ever. It set the bar for the 'awkward humour' that was later observed with Ricky Gervais, Sacha Baron Cohen, etc, and later by american comedians such as Ben Stiller. They owe Steve Coogan big time !
Ben Stiller has cited Steve Coogan as a big influence on his work and got him to cameo in a few of his films. Plus, Peter Baynham, one of the original Partridge writers, worked on Borat, so there's defo some mutual inspiration there. Gervais, on the other hand, would probably tell you that everyone else owes him everything...
A woman I briefly worked with years ago in one of my shittier jobs actually said this to me, I told her I was really into the Beatles and she said she was too and when I asked her what her favourite album was she said the best of the Beatles, really don't think she was a big Partridge fan either!
To be fair, I love the Beatles, especially the White album, but the Blue album is the one I listen to most, it works like a normal album not just a compilation
If Alan Partridge was a real person - and I think we all know someone with a bit of Partridge in them - then "Wings were the band the Beatles could have been" is EXACTLY the sort of thing he would say. Coogan's finest hour - genius. Nice to see Kevin Eldon as well - very underrated comic actor
Oh i miss Alan partridge. I'd love to see a comeback series. I know theres a movie but a series would still be great as id have the episodes to look forward to every week.
What a funny comedian. I saw him on a documentary channel and I'm like whoa, frickin amazing. Then when I think I'm going to look him up I've already seen him in movies.
I love the pop at Bang and Olufsen too. B&O are the epitome of style over substance in the hi-fi world and are regarded as a bit of a joke. The very best hi-fi components focus primarily on reproducing the best sound, looks are waaay down the list of priorities. B&O is very much an Alan type of brand. Let's face it, he likes Wings more than the Beatles, likes Roger Moore more than Connery etc.
Bang and Olufsen is like the Rolls-Royce of the audio world. They're not the fastest like Ferrari, not the highest quality like what Mercedes-Benz tries to be, but they are indisputably high quality and their niche is very wealthy people who want a beautiful status symbol. I have a couple of old B&O systems and they still sound fantastic, and still look beautiful and impressive. B&O is no joke.
I was guilty of this when I first got into The Beatles. When asked my favourite my answer would be "oh, I like the blue one". And I dare say there's probably a few out there who gave "1" as their answer haha.
That's why the new Partridge stuff is the best! No laugh track. This is still great though, too bad laugh track can't be "digitally erased" (imagined Alan saying that lol)
Alan Partridge being left "hanging" is one of the greatest awkward moments in television history. I fell apart laughing at that. Got the box set of both seasons and KMKYWAP...."Back of the net!" Gotta love Anal Dirge Prat
I work with people that are like the guy in the lift, they laugh at almost anything You could say practically anything and they laugh out loud, very strange
@Menegoth I never said I did ha ha! I'm not sure what your point is but I was originally pointing out to you that this is not a track its an actual audience
