The actor Alan Ritchson is best known for playing Jack Reacher, an ex-military nomad who negotiates suspicious and dangerous situations. But in his new film Ordinary Angels, Alan plays a father whose brawn is of little use in the face of his young daughter’s illness. He sits down with Tom Power to talk about playing a dad desperate to save his child, what it’s like to do a scene with an Oscar winner when you can tell she’s not sure about you, and why he wrote a letter to Tom Cruise when he booked Reacher.

How amazing is Alan. Upfront about everything. I'm sure, somewhere in the world, there are people so pleased to see the open nature of Alan. Society has us chasing wealth, or things are too expensive so people are trying to earn enough just to get by. It leaves them with next to no time to look at the bigger picture. I am so rooting for Alan to be successful in whatever his life choices are, as long as he keeps that balance. Hollywood will always replace an actor, but you can't replace a loved one With his not exactly linear approach to life, this tells everyone that you haven't got to come from a perfect background to achieve in life.

I was introduced to Alan Ritchson as Reacher, had read the books, and thought he was just so perfect for that. 'Can't wait to see him in movies well into the future; what a well-rounded, down to earth guy and terrific actor. ☺

I saw Ordinary Angels last night and was mesmerized by this beautiful inside and out man. He is the most attractive man physically in film today - but now I am blown away with what an incredible person he is.

The honesty and vunerability of Mr. Ritchson is much appreciated. I believe it will make a difference to brothers and sisters out in the world who think they are isolated in their pain. I am a big fan of the the books and think Reacher is an awesome guy. I'm happy with the show is doing well so I can keep enjoying his adventures.

I have loved Alan since he played Aquaman in Smallville. Aquaman was my favourite comic book character when I was growing up. I was so happy and excited when he got the role of Reacher. I hope he gets every role he wants and we continue to get to see him in many more roles.

I’m sorry for your loss. Alan talked about depression getting its “talons into you” and feeling that your loved ones would be better off without you. I lost my Dad to suicide when I was 11. The void is real and no, I was not better off without him.

The biggest reason I want to see Ordinary Angels is because of Alan. I will support him whatever he is in. I loved him in Reacher,BMS, and workaholics! He's one of those rare humble actors that Hollywood didn't change! Wish the best of luck in anything he does!

I had suffered from early childhood OCD, CLINICAL ANXIETY, SCHIZOPHRENIA. STRUGGLED EVERY MOMENT OF MY LIFE WITH ZERO EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FROM FAMILY BUT ONLY UNWARRANTED CONTEMPT FROM SIBLINGS. I AM NOW 69, CHRIST HAS BEEN MY REFUGE N EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. I CAN EMPATHISE WITH ALAN'S MENTAL CHALLENGES. A BEAUTIFUL SOUL HE IS!

@26:26 I really appreciate Alan talking about mental health bc like he says ' he doesn't fit the type.' The truth is all humans experience mental health issues but there's millions of us in America that deal with it in an extreme degree. It's okay to experience mental health disorders and go get help no matter how much money you have and what you look like on the outside.

It takes guts to talk about suicide...Alan bares his soul so others don't feel alone and that they're beyond help. Being Bipolar isn't easy...I have family members who have it. My wife and I love Reacher and after hearing Alan tell his story have even more admiration for him.

I'm bipolar. People put drugs in my system. That's what happens. When people drug you. Homicidal America. Life after fame. People got jealous and drugged me until my teeth started falling out and I died. It's a wonderful life.

The sharing of his life experiences both mental and physical only elevates him. Flaws...we all have them, but too many keem them secretive. Kudos to this man. He found out fairly early in life that reaching the so called "top" is not all it's cracked to be. Now i like him even more. But there are impistets out there on social media claiming to be reacher. Pretty sad so do not be fooled.

As much as I want to watch your new movie and your show, I just can't. I'm a disabled Coast Guard veteran suffering from depression and ptsd and I graduated from Niceville High School in 1977. I wish nothing but total success for you but I just can't participate. My 11 year old son is buried at Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso, we were just there a few months ago. I'm one of your biggest fans but just can't do you any good.

Interesting and so true how he says people can’t stomach that much tragedy in movies. Society has always stuck their head in the sand and avoids a lot that goes on in this world. It’s likely exactly how humans and this whole planet will become extinct in the not so far future. Yet apparently we’re the smartest beings on the planet. 😆

Per the bipolar thing. It's a PHYSICAL issue. Look into vitamin, mineral, amino acid levels along with heavy metals. It can also be due to Leaky Gut (do either Glutamine or the GAPS Diet to heal it). It can also be due to an infection: mold, candida, parasites, tics etc. A friend knew someone who was classic bipolar. She took Empower by True Hope (major B vitamin infusion) and it disappeared. If you are on psych drugs, heal the underlying cause and then SLOWLY taper off i.e. no faster than 10% a month. God bless~

Well, what I think is: Ritchson's career has seemed to have taken off and he has made a conscious decision to align himself with the Left, believing that they will come out on top, his decision was more based on self interest than his belief in any Christianity . He has turned out to be just another Actor shooting of his mouth and not really true to what he says he believes... Done with anything he is involved with.......Remember : He is an Actor and they have Big egos, even if well hidden.
