lets be honest here, Control was a rare game when it came out and the fact that its connected with Alan Wake universe through the Dark Place or possible Reality Altering Events... its just mind boggling and so good. Makes me wanna play both games at once

Hard to say until the two DLC's come out for AW2, but what it looks now with the final draft ending i don't think "Alan wake 3" is the direction they are going. Seems more like AW2 is just meant to finalize the story before they merge it completely into the control franchise where the "dark place" is just one of countless Lovecraftian dimensions.

@@sam.reece1963 Final draft ending all the "world edits" are undone. Only lose end is Alan, Saga and Alex being in the dark place (which Alan claimed to have mastery over now). One of the DLC is the lake house owned by the FBC, also Alice was hinted at already being with the FBC. There really isn't much to follow up on for a Alan wake stand alone title, but like i said depends on what direction the DLC goes.

Not all of them, just Control and AW I think they were originally intending to tie in Quantum Break aswell with Martin Hatch, but when Lance Reddick passed they changed things a bit.

@@nikushim6665 Alan Wake and AWEs were mentioned in Quantum Break if I recall. I think the only thing holding Remedy back from really tying QB in with the rest of their Universe is Microsoft holding the rights.

@@frozenninja4030 There are cross references in all the games. Such as wake making references to max payne. But as Sam lake said at the time "the references to other were often just ways for the development teams to reduce stress and show appreciation to their fanbase. Not really to show a connected world". The only exception so far is AW/Control which are not just in the same universe but same world. But yeah Legal rights are a major factor.

@@nikushim6665Quantum Break is in the connected universe. They just can't really confirm it. Tim Breaker (time breaker) has dreams about Quantum Break. He talks/writes about Mr. Door = Hatch and Jesse = Beth Wilder. So it kinda is there, just in some alternate reality. And fictional Alex Casey is just Max Payne with another name.

I remember playing Control in 2019, the day it came out, and finishing it (recorded it too) within that day. The next day or during that week, I saw an article of some random gaming writer calling the game a "niche experience that won't attract many due to esoteric ideas and themes." Four years later. Remedy's Control and Alan Wake 2 are considered two of the most technologically impressive titles in history and pretty much everyone agrees that Control is a storytelling masterpiece along with AW2. I'm so glad Remedy is willing to dive deeper into storytelling, into the dark if you will ;). Where we humans don't really like to go ourselves, but being pulled along on an mindbending adventure gives a mentality warping experience that doesn't involve ourselves actually going crazy ourselves. Love em both and I hope gaming matures even further in many genres, to bring these stories that are on the fringes, to the forefront. Hellblade is another favorite of mine, taking on insanity from the player character's point of view, having the player experience schizophrenia is a genius storytelling device and essential for understanding other people with mental divergences better.

The plot of AW2 is so TP: The Return too. A darker more horrific sequel, over a decade later. The main character emerges from a netherplace they've been trapped in all this time to find that their evil doppleganger has been running rampant (this is a looser fit, but just about works).

If you love Twin Peaks, you will love these games, I promise. Twin Peaks is my favorite show ever, and I am constantly reminded of the series, especially in Alan Wake 1 and 2, but the whole direction makes me think of David Lynch.

Alan Wake 2 is so Twin Peaks, its almost over the line but.. I don't care, I want more Twin Peaks inspired games. And its nice they didnt go over the top with Control, I figured they were gonna go full SCP with that concept but I prefer the more minimalist David Lynch approach.

You actually fight Scratch for the first time in Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (an open world spinoff that was more akin to the original open world vision of the first game). Def a must play for anyone who was into Wake 2 along with of course Wake 1 and Control (especially this AWE dlc). Quantum Break (which only exists from Microsoft declining the pitch for Wake 2 way back in favor of wanting a new IP), actually also has a promo hidden in it for ‘Alan Wake:Return’, which is basically the game we got. Complete with Casey and Saga even drinking their coffee at the same time looking at an evidence board. They’ve had the script for Wake 2 for a long time. It just had a much younger and less disheveled looking Wake in that promo as it had only been 5 years in the dark place at the time. Prob for the best though that it qas declined for 2015 as the tech now has caught up to a place that Wake 2 hits much harder than it would have back then.

@@Velanteg I haven’t played the first game in a while but I don’t think you actually fight Scratch in either of Wake’s DLC’s. He’s mentioned, but even that becomes convoluted as in Wake 1 Scratch was a doppleganger and totally separate from Alan, meant to take his place in the real world. Rumors of Alan being a killer and murdering his wife corrupted Scratch turning him into the Herald of Darkness. Wake even asks Zane if he and Scratch are the same person to which Zane bluntly says ‘No’. I mean I guess it could be argued that Wake isn’t himself when the Dark Presence takes him over in Wake 2, but the whole thing of Wake being Scratch in 2 creates a paradox to older titles in a lot of ways. Unless old Scratch is indeed a separate entity than Wake 2’s corrupted Alan Scratch. Because we don’t see corrupted Alan in Wake 2 go back to the events of Wake 1 or American Nightmare (unless that confrontation takes place in his own mind). Who knows. I am curious though, when do you fight Scratch in The Signal? I’ll have to go back and replay it I guess. The final boss is just that whole thing with destroying the tv’s.

@@frozenstar8050 it’s way way more open than the first game. You do have a massive area. Sure, it’s not an Ubisoft sized map, but this was the XBox 360. The launch model didn’t even ship with a hard drive. Lol. I could have said ‘large open area’ but then someone else would have chimed in why don’t I just say open world and called me a pretentious asshole or something. Open World is the easiest possible premise for people to understand. You don’t have chapters like the first game or linear levels. You do multiple objectives running around the same large ‘open world’ish area’.

Yah in Quantum Break (underrated game), you can actually find a video for ‘Alan Wake: Return’ that looks extremely similar to the game we got. Complete with a scene of Saga and Casey looking at an evidence board and both drinking their coffee at the same time. A lot of the other shots in the promo are basically the game we got as well, just with a younger Wake as it had only been 5 years in the dark place at that time. They’ve had Alan Wake 2’a script for a long time, and even pitched it to Microsoft when they were making exclusives for them. Microsoft wanted a new IP though, so they declined their pitch for Wake 2 at the time and we got Quantum Break instead. Honestly for the best as the tech is finally in a place where Wake 2 hit harder than it would have back in 2015.

The warning isn't about Scratch. It's about an AWE at Cauldron Lake. In his warning, Alan says "It's happening again." - He's referring to the fact that this is not the first time there's been an AWE at Cauldron Lake. In fact, Cauldron Lake is quite the hotspot for AWEs. The "It's happening again" statement has also been used in reference to another AWE. Old Gods Of Asgard's single "Balance Slays The Demon" has a line played in reverse towards the end of the song, said line is "It will happen again, in another town, a town called Ordinary." Ordinary appears to also be a hotspot for AWEs. We're all familiar with the Ordinary AWE, as it is referenced in "Control". Aside from "Control", there's also "This House Of Dreams" that also occurs in Ordinary. In "Quantum Break", there is the potential for Ordinary to be mentioned in a memo regarding a sudden massive power outage. And following the power outage, the town experienced a significant spike in violent crimes practically overnight. It appears that if an area has already had one AWE occur, it's likely that it will happen again. MINOR "ALAN WAKE II" SPOILERS INCOMING!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! After the first boss encounter in "Alan Wake II", if you take the route that goes past the FBC monitoring station at Cauldron Lake, you'll hear an alarm blaring. If you decide to investigate, you'll be able to access said monitoring station and learn the reason for the alarm going off by examining the computer monitors within the station. The reason for the alarm is: "WARNING. AWE IN EFFECT." - This is what Alan's warning is about.

QB isn't tied into the universe, at least not yet. As for the last one, the AWE monitor is only triggered after returning from the crossover and brining Scratch back with you. It wont go off anytime before that despite all wackiness going on and taken popping up everywhere.

@@nikushim6665 Alan was brought back. Scratch was already out. Scratch has been tormenting Alice Wake for a long while at that point. Something he couldn't have done if he was stuck in the Dark Place until that point. As for your claim that QB is not tied into the "Alan Wake"/"Control" universe... And yet Alan makes at least two appearances in QB, AWEs are mentioned, Ordinary is mentioned, the FBC is referenced. And in "Control", Langston mentions a band Jack Joyce used to be in. And these are only a few examples off the top of my head.

@@Tumbledweeb Ordinary in QB is not the same place as Control/AW. In control its Wisconsin, in QB its Maine. (also Sam Lake confirmed Quantum Break is not part of the shared universe, same with Max payne and death rally. Legally they cant be, because they are all IP's owned by different companies). As for alice being tormented did you play through both the normal and final draft endings of AW2 and watch the post credits? Alices torment was caused by Alan constantly trying to contact her, creating a loop.

It's possible both events are taking place at the same time. In AW2 Estevez can't reach HQ, and The Oldest House is on lockdown. It leads me to believe that some sort of time anomaly has occurred

We know at least part of Alan's half takes place at the same time as AWE (since it shows Alan's end of the bit where Jesse looks into the Writer's Room), and given that (giant Alan Wake 2 spoilers follow, stop reading, seriously stop if you don't want it spoiled) the entire plot of Alan Wake 2 is a time loop/spiral and time is more or less meaningless in the Dark Place means it could all be happening at the same time AND four years apart.

@theboard6082 this would actually make a lot of sense bc Wake in AWII is experiencing events at a different rate inside the Dark Place than Saga is in Bright Falls. When they periodically meet at Overlaps, Wake is connecting with Saga at a much faster rate than Saga is with Wake.

They are not, Its specifically stated @0:32 that monitor warning signal is coming from several(4) years into the future. Both Control and AW2 take place in the year they were released, Control DLC was 2019 and AW2 was 2023.

MASSIVE ALAN WAKE 2 SPOILERS ... ... ... please correct me if I'm wrong but given the Alan we've seen A) hasn't leaned about the FBC B) still thinks that Alice is dead before she went to the oldest house C) hasn't caught up to the point in time that we hear his future phone call from I think it's safe to assume the events that set this in motion haven't even happened yet, and will either happen in AW2's DLC, Control 2, or a potential Alan Wake 3

I believe the alert itself is about the events in AW2, due to time shenanigans via The Dark Place and Alan's writing. The FBC stationed at Cauldron Lake was being overrun by the dark presence, but the alert wasn't able to reach HQ during their present time and, instead was sent to the Oldest House in the past. As Alan said they had been warned. Though this calls into question how the FBC hadn't prepared any sort of defense against the dark presence. Considering they had an on-site Taken and witnessed what it was capable of and, how to hurt it.

in the begining of aw2, we have an indication that the alert was sent, when we get the shortcut key from the police to get to the parking lot, if we take an alternative route we will find an fbc surveillance site, to monitor caldron lake, when we take alan at the edge of the lake, the alert is sent, in the same way as it appears in the cutscene, assuming that everything occurs in the same period of time, and that Estevez cannot contact him because the old house was under lockdown

Control is a few years before, that's why the alert is coming from "a few years in the future." I believe it's implied that the quarantine around Cauldron Lake was set up as a result of the alert the Bureau gets in this clip, which is why it's already there when Saga and Casey show up.

Or its that due to the AWE going on that she can't contact them. Remember she said the AWE only affects a certain radius around the Cauldron Lake. Though she would then come to the conclusion of that herself....

Furthermore the second DLC for AW2 will be "The Lake House", which is the FBC field office near Cauldron Lake which is inaccessible during the main game (and which agent Estevez mentions being overrun by the dark presence). I'm pretty sure The Lake House will be a prequel or anyway a teaser for what to expect in Control 2.

The coincidence is insane. The alarm signal that showed on the monitor is the same signal the FBC station was making at Cauldron Lake when playing as Saga. The events of Control must've been taking place when Saga was visitng cauldron lake to investigate the cult murders. I believe that signal was notifying the FBC, you first meet one of the Koskela brothers along with a fbc maintenence technician

Loved Control, the game flowed very nicely, with an somewhat interesting story. Alan Wake 2 is kind of a mess IMO. I've got stuck every 15 mins, not finding some item I needed or talk to some person. The game doesn't provide enough specific hints, even if you've been stuck for sometime.

I've definitely heard worse. Have you heard the VA for Ada Wong in the RE4 remake? There is no emotion in her voice it's just weird. Especially with how everyone else can verbally express their side of their emotions with any given conversation with her. Sounds like she just read her lines basically all the same and it makes it hard to believe that she is the person they're actually talking to

What are you talking about? This is a DLC to the base game, and Alan Wake 2 has a shit load of references to the Oldest House / FBC as well. It's a connected Universe like the MCU, of course they will mention each other.
