In the 1990s I had a retail store. A woman came in and within the first five minutes said something to me along the lines of I am Alanis‘s mother. I had no idea what she was talking about. It wasn’t until I told friends about it that they suggested that she was Alanis Morissette mother. This is the first time I’ve seen a picture of her mother and lo and behold it was really her.

"There's some people who don't want to see me get ahead." It's refreshing to hear her acknowledge this and it's obviously something that hurt her at the time. On the path to success so many, even those you feel are your closest friends, want you to fail because they can't reach the same heights. It can either pull you back or you can use it to strengthen your resolve. When you get older you realise it's not about you but about them. I am sure all those who failed to support her now tell everyone that they used to know her. Congratulations on a successful career and life, Alanis. On behalf of Australia, we think you're awesome and thank you for sharing your music and talent. I'm sure glad you made it.

This is fantastic stuff! I didnt know she was a teen pop star, when you see her here and then on Letterman with "You Oughta know" she is completely different lol, I bet her dad didnt like the lyrics to that!. Your amazing Alanis, you stand on top of the world and you worked hard to get there even though I know you write really fast lol

@miyojewoltsnasonth2159 3 года назад
@Ron I remember being in the car with my girlfriend in 1995 when we heard "You Oughta Know" on the radio for the first time. She kept saying, "I think that's Alanis's voice," but I had no idea who "Alanis" was. At the end, the DJ for CFNY (a hip Toronto alternative station) said, rather sarcastically, "And that was a new song from Alanis ... who's apparently now using her last name, Morissette." My girlfriend then burst out laughing, and explained to me that "Alanis" was a teen pop singer in the Tiffany/Debbie Gibson strain from about 5 years before. Personally, I just saw her listed on Wikipedia as a contestant on Star Search back in 1980s, googled her to try and find it, and came across this.

The 80's era of Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Martika, Bananarama, The Bangles, The Go-Go's, Belinda Carlisle, etc. Yes yes, I know Madonna was in this era, #1 actual, but Madonna doesn't enter mind when the Pop genre of the 80's, I was born in 1980, so when my own music development taste evolution kicked-in at 4 5 6yrs young, Madonna was grown, exploring & expressing "extreme" sexuality....

She had to have been 17 here since she was born in 74. It's funny to see how protective her dad was here. Little did he know what song she would become famous for, 4 short years later. Bit of a difference between a 17 year old and a 21 year old though I guess.

I get this isn't the "real" Alanis music. The dance type. And then "Jagged..." came out. That's my favorite album of hers. But everything after that isn't the same style as "Jagged...". Personally don't like them. Doesn't mean they aren't good music. Other people still like it. Wish she stay on the same course as "jagged...".

Her dad saying how they're able to choose who she is surrounded by...she had already been victim of a predator under the guise of an under age relationship (she was 14, he was 29 and in a position of authority most likely working for her record label), she was bulimic and anorexic by 15 and in her own words hanging out with people much older, drinking and smoking pot.
