They were more concerned about getting in trouble and losing their precious scholarships than they were about saving this poor boy’s life. Sounds like negligence to me.
No it's more about priveledged brats born and bred to care more about a legacy and it's secrets and what it can do for their future. They knew exactly what needed, should and could have been done if they were just willing to drop their pride and worry about the person rather than the frat. It's wasn't negligence it was out right abuse that led to murder.
My brother was accidentally set on fire during a hazing type thing, he ran around and eventually collapsed as his fraternity watched and had no idea what to do, nobody called an ambulance, they managed to put him out and thought it was a good idea to rinse him off and bandage him up(the bandages stuck to his skin...dumb idea), he said he could feel himself baking as heat radiated from his body all night, the next day they finally took him to the hospital. He’s alive but his back and upper arm will always look like Freddy Krueger. Fraternities are so mf stupid.
Another self centered bitch. Piazza is dead and you go on about your own story. With a name like Napalm you are looking for sympathy? Do you have any idea how many people were burnt by napalm in Vietnam who are still alive to show their injuries. How do you expect people to even believe the shit you write?
@B Pope geez...blame the victim. Sure, he should not have had too much to drink, but EVERYONE has the right to expect to be treated in a humane way. When you see a pedestrian get struck by a car, do you walk off saying,"he shouldn't have tried to cross the street."? Man! Even if they thought they might get in trouble, what's the penalty for drinking? Certainly not death !!
And others knew something was wrong yet still did nothing. Hey someone should call 911, someone should get help. Yeah, why didn't YOU get help. Instead you did nothing because the others were also doing nothing. How hard is it to just call 911??
It’s Penn State. It’s no different than OU, Bama, or any other big for profit college. If you have the money, simply writing your name on the application is all it takes.

United Federation of KFC That’s interesting to me. I’m waiting for the pedophile case to go through (I’ts been a year since I reported years of abuse). He made me delete so many text messages; the most dirty ones in fact. And when I told the police that he made me delete texts, they said there was no possible way to get them back. They told me law enforcement doesn’t have that power. So I’m starting to question

@B Pope the "legal drinking age" is a completely arbitrary rule. Some countries allow 16 year olds to drink. Thats not the problem. It's easy to manipulate someone to do more extreme requests when they're drunk. They preyed upon his inebriation and his desire to be accepted.
@B Pope I'm talking about other countries genius...🤦🏽♂️ Like the Netherlands, or Italy. Where the drinking age is 16. And it's COMPLETELY arbitrary! lt wasn't even federal law until 1984. States were forced to adopt the policy, or loose 10% of their funding. And it's way easier to be peer pressured to do things you wouldn't normally do when you're drunk. Could he have made better decisions? Sure, but once he's no longer in control of his body, his peers have a responsibility to ensure his safety. Blaming an individual does nothing to alleviate the overall predatory nature of frat culture in universities.
@B Pope First off, calf down with the OOOOOVER EXXXXXTENDING OOOOF WOOOOORDS. And you're exactly right, he was trying to be a part of of something. He wanted to be accepted. So of course he's going to be way more susceptible to pressure, and doing questionable things. Couple that with intoxication, you're not even in full control of your body at that point. Should he have made different choices? Absolutely. But that doesn't make everyone involved free of responsibility. And you know what? You're absolutely right! He was drinking illegally underage. Which means they were supplying an underage person with alcohol. Meaning they have cosiquences to face. My entire point though, that this death was unecessary and avoidable. If hazing wasn't part of the process.
If they had called an ambulance after it happened, they would have been viewed as idiots but just college idiots. They waited half a day, after admittedly googling his symptoms (meaning they KNEW some thing was wrong), and by waiting and delaying any kind of medical treatment, they are 100% neglectful and guilty of man slaughter. I have never understood the appeal of fraternities and sorority houses. They seem rife with mental, physical and sexual abuse.
agreed, the drinking was his own choice, i dont blame anyone for that; but not calling for help - thats the part i cant understand! Hell if they were so worried about getting in trouble just find one sober person to drive him to hospital and drop him outside

Not a concerning cycle, people willing join frats they’re a reason they’re frat are usually filled with dumbasses it’s because they’re are the people that are drawn towards that idea
Something like this happens to me this year, only I fell and hit a curb not done the stairs. Same bac. My pledge master drove me to the emergency room himself. The fact these guys couldn’t even make a phone call is a disgrace

I went to college in NY and I was pressured into drinking too much, no one took me to the hospital but the guy who pressured me to drink felt so bad that he carried me to my roommates bathroom and sat with me to make sure I was okay, he laid down a towel on the floor so I could rest my head on something and he made sure I stayed on my side, I remember him making me drink water and I remember him putting a cold washcloth on my face. The way your kids behave is definitely how you raise them, I don’t blame him for getting me to drink so much because I agreed to do it. I’m actually still very good friends with him, he’s probably the only thing that kept me alive that night because he took responsibility for his own actions before it was too late, and decided instead of partying he was going to make sure the person he got drunk was going to be okay. Moral of the story: don’t pressure people to drink, but also don’t let people pressure you. It’s okay to say no, it’s okay to be sober
Eh man that's true on your comment. It's how they were raised. I find spoiled rich fucks are completely ignorant to anything but themselves. Narcissistic. People who struggle, and appreciate their kids, that's the type of guy who helped you out I'd bet.
This is disgusting that they were TEXTING about not wanting to go to jail while this kid is being tortured and dying. He probably wondered “where are my friends!?” While these disgusting kids stalled instead of making a call that could probably save his life. To know he looked like he got hit by a car, WHAT DID this guys do to him!?
That makes no sense. Why the hell would he be scared from having a few beers quickly and accidentally falling down stairs drunk off his ass? I'm sure he wasn't scared by the "hazing" - which was just binge drinking - which is the reason he pledged the frat to begin with.
@@matt8239 - obviously your an idiot. He was DRUNK when he fell down the stairs. Once your old enough to have a beer in 8 more years you'll understand that you don't really feel pain when your drunk. It's why in college you might wake up with bruises and a sprained ankle after a night of binge drinking and have no idea how it happened. Also, HE would have no idea he was dying. You don't KNOW your dying when its happening. Either he just feel woozy or sleepy or didn't even know anything at all. Just like the non-doctor 19yr old frat brothers didn't know he was dying either. I doubt it was the first time someone got super drunk and clumsy in the frat house. This is classic grieving parents who want SOMEONE to blame for their idiot son's death. Learn to handle your booze like a man and don't blame other kids for this idiots decision to join a frat or binge drink. No one held a gun to his head.
@Siobhan Fogarty 0.4 is nothing for alcohol level. He could of damaged certain nerves in his brain that caused him not to be able to stand and possibly could of lost memory or blacked outbut not likely
I think it’s the culture of fraternities that make this kind of behavior normalized. Because you’ve pledged, you feel like you have to keep going. All those kids are at fault. 8-12 hours of no medical intervention, they genuinely didn’t care.
They all knew the risk's, even the one that died. But they should be held accountable for not reacting immediately. They're not adults, they're still young and dumb. Then again many adult's are dumb. Though under 25 these guy's knew better, but we're probably just as intoxicated. No one to trust, they're worried about covering their behinds than getting him help.
I couldn’t help but laugh at the comment “there should be NO underage drinking”. Because that’s so realistic. The real issue here is the frat dunces that waited 8-12 hours to get the poor kid help. All colleges would benefit from teaching these students that regardless of how much trouble you think you’ll get in, you should always call 911 in an emergency.
@@gi295 a BAC *four times the legal limit* carries zero fault? Look, I totally agree the young man's death is all on the frat fckrs, but let's not pretend as though he wasn't somewhere in the neighborhood of alcohol poisoning and in real danger even without the head injury and lack of sane humans around him to get help immediately.
Or just ban frats because people in large numbers always do dumb things. Now taking our dumb youth, adding alcohol, and putting them in a group is going to be a disaster every time.
@@gi295 I mean drinking obvious a big issue. You have a room full of drunk kids no ones taking responsibilities. If someone was sober, they may be thinking straight. Alcohol continues to be a major contributor to death in america and trying to give it a pass here is dangerous.
@@dougbfresh drinking definitely was a major red flag in this situation but even when I’m drunk I can always clearly see what’s dangerous and what isn’t. even after two full bottles of wine or 9 shots in. that is never an excuse to leave someone injured on the brink of death. they could’ve easily called 911 and if they did there wouldn’t be as many questions about who is responsible.
I’ll never forget that a frat member at my old college told us about how his hazing included getting hit so hard with a paddle by each person in the frat that the person who managed to break it on the pledge won.
@@ZeldasMask As an American, I'll just say to try to keep in mind how many of us are in frats lol. What you're viewing here isn't anywhere close to the average American experience, a quick search says there are roughly 750k frat members in the US while our population is over 350mil

I get plenty of pussy, and friends without my fraternity. However, I think that my specific fraternity aligns with my goals in life, and sets me on a path to complete that goal. Being with different people, mobilized by tenants is good for me.
I graduated with a 3.9. Went to law school. The alumnis in my frat opened many doors into my professional career. So go figure why people rush frats. Much more than just "buying friends."
I’ve lived up in College Township for about 6 years now. I remembered when this happened and it was just like another “here we go again situation”. There are so many other stories like this or ones involving excessive intoxication where and individual(s) gets hurt. I work where the main fraternities and student apartments meet. Wether it’s a football weekend or just a busy Saturday night there is always that feeling like something like this is gonna happen. It’s tiring to have your town in the news for something negative. Especially when there hasn’t very little to anything done to prevent fraternities from partying. It’s sad to see it. There needs to be more attention to not only this, but how events like these can be prevented. Banning a fraternity from throwing parties isn’t going to stop anything.
Imagine being told your whole childhood that you have to go to college, and being told how good and important it is to go to college. You spend your high school years getting ready for it, you spend hours and days working on scholarships and admissions applications and taking tests, just to be told to join a fraternity when you get there, so you try and join, and then you just die from stupid frat hazing and then it all just means nothing.
Intent, maybe not. But gross negligence? Most definitely. These guys were covering their butts, not looking out for him. For that they're guilty. Lock em up and throw away the key.
When I was in my early 20's, my best mate and I went to a party. I got talking to a girl, he started playing drinking games in another room. He got very drunk, very quickly. I hadn't seen him in maybe an hour, so I went looking for him. He was face down next to the table where everyone was still playing drinking games - completely ignoring him. I turned him over to find him with a bleeding head and foaming at the mouth. No one seemed to give af. I snapped into sobriety in a matter of seconds and called an ambulance. I carried him downstairs with the help of one other friend and went to the hospital in the ambulance with him then sat in the waiting room for 8 hours, calling his mother to tell her what had happened. Thankfully he made a full recovery and was discharged a day later. I did all that because I knew he'd do the same for me. But I would have done it for anyone. Surround yourself with people who will call an ambulance for you. Fk everyone else.
That's precisely the allure of fraternities, or clubs of any sort: there's a sacrifice to be made. That way, membership becomes something special. If there are no requirements, then membership is no big deal. Hazing is a rite of passage, and as humans we are suckers for such things. Whether it's the first crossing of the Equator, Mensur fencing, circumcision etc. - all of which are very unpleasant, but more to the point they are unpleasant by design. And such traditions are kept alive because... reasons.
@@ozzierabbit587 I did not know that his college mates tied him down and forced the alcohol down his throat, this is what you are insinuating .He took it upon himself to guzzle down the crap.I take it you were not aware that Piazza was warned about the parties before going to college.
Wow! Unbelievable! One student texted that hazing is bad.. he was aware of thr danger and the consequences... the poor family of the young pledge.. who suffered a senseless death. God bless them.
When is this country finally going to outlaw fraternities and sororities? So many innocent and promising young individuals have died due to hazing. It’s detestable
Sphinx Money what a stupid fucking argument you make. They’re BOTH at fault. Know your fucking limits and of course don’t place your trust in pledging idiots like that. They should’ve done something for the poor kid but he got himself into that situation by agreeing and partaking, I’m sure he wanted to do whatever it took but look at the cost? All for a Greek name and notoriety. That damage was already done, being surrounded by family, friends or staff doesn’t mean shit you fucktard. So when you drink alone what you don’t expect to wake up then? What a braindead comment. Maybe you should shut your stupid fucking mouth
This happens everywhere. It's not just Penn State. Fraternities are breeding grounds for this type of behavior. Why the entire system has not been shut down is beyond comprehension.
Omg . Hearing his mother speak just broke my heart. Can you imagine sending your baby to het a higher education so they can build a secure life and then they never come home again 😞😢
Deidre Muhammad well we have another case of kids watching a person drowning and recording it yet doing nothing....only there is no law against it so they won't go to jail...
I always worry about people when they throw up and pass out in random spots. People think “oh they’re fine. You’re overreacting.” But, they don’t realize that’s alcohol poisoning and they can die from too much consumption or from choking on their own vomit. People need to be taught more on safety and be more cautious of their actions.
Crazy how all of a sudden 19yo college freshmen isnt old enough to realize something bad has happened for 12hrs but smart enough to use the internet and look up symptoms
You send your child to college for a bright future and then this BS happens . Seriously are you kidding me . Did they all fall off the stupid tree and hit every branch down ! God
People send their children away knowing about these things and expecting their children to take part in it. They are just as much to blame as anyone else. If he wouldn't have died this simply would have been laughed off.
I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your son. I went to Penn state games all the time and had several friends who went there for college and it’s a beautiful campus . I agree that alcohol should not be aloud on campuses it causes more problems than anything good .
"There's no intent involved." This even pisses me off even more because hazing in the first place should never be tolerated AT ALL. I don't care if it's tradition for some society or something but no one should EVER go through an inhumane process just to fit in into a group of whatever. Humanity is deteriorating and it's deteriorating fast. Rest well, beautiful soul.
My cousin went through hazing....he dived off the roof of a house into a pool....broke his neck and is now paralyzed..... hazing is not ok. Kids are impressionable...18 may be a legal adult, but they are just getting into the world....
A. Smith you need to learn that there is such thing as peer pressure especially for young adults and teens in college. I personally never went through peer pressure because I make my own decisions and I know when something isn’t a good idea. However kids do go through peer pressure stop talking about there’s no excuse. Not everybody is like you not everyone has high self esteem. Hazing is big in colleges and half the time they DO force you to do certain things. Before you judge people you should educate yourself. It’s everyone’s fault in this case. Period.
Not very intelligent kids are they, I mean, who doesn't know that everything you do on a device is recorded,... send them to jail for total disregard for life.
They didn't know that he was clearly in very bad shape, that cold hands and feet is a VERY BAD SIGN (it's your body going into shock). So, no -- not very intelligent kids.
The fact that they weren't responsible enough to call 911 within the first hour is a demonstration of their character and their unreadiness for college. They should be expelled and charged with manslaughter at the very least
"how is a college freshman supposed to see a problem when trained professionals don't see a problem" Oh, I don't know, maybe when he watches the guy fall down a flight of stairs? Seriously...

His parents didn’t think there would be underage drinking? What a tragic slap of reality. When he decided to join the fraternity I’m sure his family wondered how bad the hazing would be. What an unnecessary loss that nobody wants to take responsibility for.
the grief and sadness in this boys family's eye is unspeakable. this will never get their family member back. while these frat brats are roaming around. I really hope that this family and victim achieve justice in this matter. horrible just horrible. you raise your child, just to have a bunch of suckers take your child's life away. life in prison wouldn't be punishment enough for them. eye for an eye would be appropriate.
Alia Khan so kill all 16 members of the fraternity who didn't do anything to save him? Nah fam, sending them to prison for the appropriate time for all those who are involved is the right thing to do.
There was a similar hazing incident at W.V.U. and they had video of that one. Carrying his limp body, and one 'brother' kicking him. Had they called 911 earlier, he probably would have lived.
I will never understand how ppl would choose trying to cover up something like this over possibly saving his life.. I had to deal with a similar situation with my daughter where the grandma on the father's side she was visiting tried to hide my daughter getting hurt over seeking medical attention.. all cuz she was scared of getting in trouble so she let my baby suffer for almost 3 days cuz it was a weekend visit.. I rushed her to the hospital when I found out and stayed with her for over a week there.. I will never trust anyone again with my children my heartbeats 💓
gotta love how the defense attorneys keep playing this off as "eh, they never had an intent to kill". how bout waiting until he's essentially dead and herniated his brain before calling for help. lol, lock em all up. better yet, serve em beer instead of water in prison.
Make them drink warm Natty Light instead of water. Kidding aside, this is tragic. If they had just called 911 right away this young man would still be here.
This has happened to me also. I fell very hard on the back of my head with a person in my arms, went knock out for some time and I was brought to my tent and went to sleep. One hour later I woke up shivering and puking, got some help and went back to sleep. The next day I was brought to the hospital because I was fainting. Right now, four months later I'm still not recovered. But I guess I got lucky I'm still alive. Head injuries are very serious so better look for medical help soon as possible if you ever get in a situation like this.
NO ONE needs to be in ANY FRATERNITY. I know so many friends and acquaintances that never got anywhere near those filthy gangs, and they are STILL ALIVE.
Time to educate yourself before you make a dumb ass statement like this. Hazing is a huge problem that needs to be combated, but there are many fraternizes that don't have any form of hazing. I agree we need to get rid of the bad ones, but a good fraternity is one of the greatest ways to make life long friends on campus. Something that can be challenging for many incoming freshmen
