Josh, I envy you and your dad so much...my dad and I had talked about taking this trip when I retired from work but when I did finally retire he became very ill and passed away. How I wish we could have done what you and your Pops did. I lived thru you guys on your journey and thought a lot about how much my dad would have loved it. Keep traveling with your dad and taking those awesome videos. Steve R.

I drove this highway on my way to the University of Alaska back in the fall of 1965. It was all gravel back then and I remember before the trip I made a plexiglass cover for my windshield. I was warmed that the 18 wheel trucks kicked up lots of stones and one really needed this or you would have Yukon Roses covering the windshield. I also had to put fiver glass shields inside my fenders. This was to protect the fenders from becoming blown out be the gravel. Also there was so much dust when stuck behind other vehicles. I believe I was on it for a week. The vehicle was a 1965 VW Beetle that my parents gave me as a graduation gift for finishing my degree in geology at Lafayette college on the prior June. I had a friend with me and we camped along the way in a tent. I remember hearing animals around the tent in the middle of the night but we had been careful to put all our food and cooking gear safely in the car with all windows closed. It was the onl😮y time I rode the highway as after finishing my MS degree in November of 1967, my new wife and I took the inland passage down to Vancouver and then proceeded in the VW on to the east coast to go into the US Army for officer corps of engineers training at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. I always looked back at this trip on this gravel road as a highlight of the fall on the year.

I subscribe to both of your channels and enjoy watching all your travels. I recently took a trip to Iceland with my 80 year old mom and ended-up creating a travel video for her to share with her friends, but also with her permission to put it on YT for others to watch and learn. I was inspired by both yours and Adam and Kathryn's channels to do this, so thank you again for sharing your adventures!!

AMAZING! My Pops (after our Alaskan adventure, he gained the name of Yukon Jack), flew our family along the Alaskan Highway in his private plane. Back in August 1977. I was 12 years old. So many memories. This is now my #1 bucket list to do, by road. We flew to Delta Jct, Whitehorse, Eagle, Anchorage and Fairbanks. Saw the Alaskan pipeline. I loved the Sourdough breads lol... You and your Pops had a wonderful adventure, memories! Love your video!!!!

You added another wonderful video. I love the way you detail things. You cover the right amount of information that someone could use for their trip. You talk of food, hotels, hikes, and things your audience might like to do. Every one of these shows you are really enjoying doing these videos, and I enjoy living vicariously through your trips. Thank you again. I'm looking forward to your next trip. And Pops, border control don't really take jokes well. That did remind me of when my ex and drove from Oklahoma to Maine, then drove around near the border in a New England loop. It was raining, I didn't know the road, so I was driving slower than normal. I pulled over at a gas station to look at the map for our next destination, and the truck following us pulled over when we did. It was the border patrol. We laughed because that far north and east, they probably didn't see too many Oklahoma plates up there. I think we were as surprised as they were. We were used to seeing border guards that were on the lookout for a totally different border! Anyway, I love all of your videos, and you really invite the viewer in to enjoy it with you. Keep up the amazing work that you do!

I drove this highway about 40 years ago with my family when we moved up there. It was WAY different back then. Mostly dirt roads, you could go hours and hours and not see another vehicle. Looks like they have added a lot of tourist stops because there is a lot more traffic now. It is absolutely beautiful country!

When my father was transferred from Ft. Richardson, AK to Ft. Hamilton, NY. in late 1965, we drove, as a small family, Mom, Dad and 4 of us young kids, the ALCAN in an old, red, Chevy II Station-Wagon. That was great. It was wonderful seeing so many of those places where I've been. I lived in the Yukon for most of the 1970's down around Carcross on the Southern Lakes (headwaters of the Yukon River). Back in the 1970's it was 900 miles of gravel, from Dawson Creek to Whitehorse. I drove that gravel at least twenty times, back and forth. It's been forty some years since I was last up north, all this time thinking I should at least go back for a visit. Thanks for all the memories you provided with your well done video. Cheers from an old Yukoner!

Mary and I did this trip back in 2011. We drove from San Francisco to Dawson Creek and then drove all the way from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks AK. The trip up was fascinating. We spent the next 5 or 6 weeks exploring Alaska and instead of returning by the Alaska Highway, we returned by taking the Ferries from Haines AK to Prince Rupert and then to Port Hardy. We drove down Vancouver Island to Victoria and then crossed on a ferry back to the US and drove back to San Francisco.

I don't usually watch long videos, but yours is the exception. Kudos to the narration and the video work. I drove the Alaska Highway in 1969 on my way to Eielson AFB at what was then called Mile 26 (the distance from Fairbanks) of the Alaska Highway. The end sign back then was in downtown Fairbanks. Seems that somehow the end of the highway moved a number of miles east! When I did my northern drive in September of 1969, the pavement stopped at mile 80 outside Dawson Creek. The only other pavement was a short stretch outside of Whitehorse. It was an adventure for sure!

Here is a piece of history that most Americans don't know. The steel cable suspension bridge that you were under at the Hot springs was made from parts of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. ( Galloping Guirty) There was a shortage of steel during the war so they trucked sections of it to finish the Liard river crossing.

We drove all the way to Arctic Ocean from Alberta last July 2023. We don't have enough budget but we made it by cooking our own meals most of the time and staying in the campgrounds, no tent set up just slept inside our van or we even parked in truck stops in some nights. We only stayed in the hotel (expensive) twice on the way because we didn't know there are so many campgrounds along the way.

Hoe awesome! I haven't been to Alaska since the by, when that highway was barely passable. If you drove a car to Fairbanks, the car would be dead after the trip. Glad to see it's been updated, but the permafrost was melting, ruining foundations and roads. Watson had a bad landslide yesterday, that buried part of the town of Watson. My heart goes to the people affected 💔.

My father was on the construction crew that built the Alcan. My wife and I made the trip in 1983 from Arizona in a pickup camper. The book Alaskan Milepost listed points of interest by mile.. that is a must to review before you start, you will experience more. On the return trip my wife said stop here, we were along the Fraser river, when I looked over the side, I saw where the river narrowed and Native American were catching Salmon using long poles, without that book I would have missed this event.

This is one of the best Alaska Highway video's I've seen. I lived in Alaska as a small child and moved when I was ten. I have been going up almost every year since 1990. I spend most of my time in the Kenai Peninsula fishing for Salmon Trout and Halibut . My son and I drove from Panama City Florida to Bellingham Washington last May and took the Ferry to Haines. The remote stop light on the trailer is exactly where we had to stop for construction just past Haines Junction. It was the trip of a lifetime. I'm starting my on RU-vid channel this June called Allen and Son Alaska Adventures . with over 34 years experience of traveling to Alaska keep and eye out for it.

In 2022 I spent 53 days traveling around Alaska. The Alaska highway was a snooze-fest being all paved and pretty. My first round trip was in 1977. Dirt. Mud. Clay. Nothing but wilderness. Washed out roads. Same in 1979 and 1980. 2022 was boring as hell. I had a better time driving the Dalton to Deadhorse. That was exciting! Between the forest fires, and then snow in July. Yeah. Good times. I’m scheduling a January-February trip back up to Deadhorse next year. That should be a blast!

Another great video! My husband and I visited Alaska at the end of August (our first time there!). We did roughly the same trip you did a year or so ago (started in Anchorage, Denali, Fairbanks, back to Anchorage, then Seward). From Fairbanks back to Anchorage, we took the Richardson Hwy (4), thinking we might stop and do the trek on the Matanuska Glacier like you two did. The drive took us much longer than we'd planned on. The construction zones were insane, with long waits for pilot cars, and then treacherous drives through the construction areas, so I'm glad you mentioned the construction here.

Glad you got to have a great time in Alaska. I agree, the construction areas are no joke and can be really long delays!

Wow, fabulous video! You present so much info, show so many sites and tons of scenery. Plus, it is a very calm, listenable voice. By far the best I have seen on the Alaska Hwy.

What a beautiful trip! Thank you for taking us along the way. I don't think I'll ever make it to Alaska highway, so it's just super nice to be able to watch a video and live it through the screen 😅 Safe travels looking forward to more of your adventures with pops.

I was stationed at Fort Greely from 1972-75. Drove home to Kentucky in April of 1975. I was actually stationed out at Milepost 1393 on the Ak. Hwy. The Gerstle River Test Site. Things have changed alot since then. Sadly when I made my trip, I was a 20 year old, just discharged from the Army, and longing for home.

Thanks for the great video! My dad left home from Montana at the age of 16 (1933) and made his way up to Canada and Alaska. Later in 1953 my mother and father drove down the Alaska Highway to Los Angeles California with my 6 month old older brother. Unfortunately the slides of their trip did not survive my last move. I have never been to Alaska and seeing this I think perhaps next summer I will make the trip up the highway (before my clock runs out LOL). Thanks again and all the best to you! So wonderful you and your dad could do this together! Subscribed and will be watching more of your adventures. Good to do it while you are young and able.

Hi, thanks for sharing your amazing experience with us! My Grandparents drove the Alaska highway in the 1990's to Whitehorse! Grandma was a photographer so she took many pictures of the trip!! I hope one day I can do the Drive with my family, thanks again for sharing your trip!

I watched your Alaska trip videos earlier this year and they were very helpful in planning my Alaska trip itinerary in May. Your comments about being sure to gas up were spot on! We almost ran out of gas on our return to Anchorage from Seward. I thought there was a gas station in Moose Pass....I was wrong! We coasted into the Girdwood gas station on fumes! After that I topped off every time I spotted a gas station.

I also travelled the highway in 2023. I got the hot roast beef sandwich to go in Teslin and I 100% agree with Pops that it was an awesome sandwich!

@user-rd2tf3kk1m After a steady diet of burgers to come on a place that had one of my absolute favorite foods and it turned out to be really good was quite a surprise. Josh teased me about it, but it was a real treat!
