100% I agree and while I definitely don’t think it was Rupaul’s intention I found it absolutely camp that it was very obvious why Rupaul was invited for that specific met but he just didn’t care. It do take nerve! We also got Violet’s glove dress though and that was amazing and underrated.

Alaska was actually smart for wearing boy drag, that explains why producers were making tons of risks, but weren’t willing to showcase that boy drag is also part of what drag is all about regardless of hyper-gendered presentation and I live 😜
Umm, Alaska didn’t start that. Kennedy Davenport was the first drag queen to do a man on Snatch Game. She did Little Richard, and it was controversial then. She won, and that’s when others were more willing to take the risk.
When I first saw the episode I thought Alaska was so cute and it fit the children's theme really well. I was confused why ru was so bothered that she wasn't a female, but this was also long ago when ru was more specific about what type of drag could be presented on the show.
answered on the spot in character yeah you definitely gagged her, we all get they were trying to keep up the tired “no boy drag” thing for like gay gold stars or whatever until it was more popular to be inclusive. anyway this challenge was so iconic actually all of the challenges were so good that season and tailored to your guys’ strengths. nobody should have done anything differently, this and the runway were perfect.

They wanted the show to be exclusive to feminine presenting performers, likely to set up the scene so it looks like they’re giving an exclusive platform to men who were ostracized for being feminine. They grew out of that as trans visibility became more prominent and accepting differences became more mainstream. Like, how RuPaul has backtracked on how he would not let a trans person compete on drag race.

I was so confused when I watched this episode for the first time. my first thought was literally "Ru, aren't you the one with the "we're all born naked and the rest is drag" line?"
Ru has had such outdated, traditional notions of what gender and drag are - a "transformation" of a man into a woman. Thus his history of resistance to trans queens, bearded queens, etc.
I’m remember their reaction and it confused me too. Obviously Ru or the producers changed their perspective on boy drag because since then they’ve had boy drag in snatch games.

I get both sides. However, I feel like Ru meant that the character costume was a little lazy. Even tho it was a character choice, Alaska was only wearing blush, freckles and eyelashes. Alyssa's "cross dressing uncle" was at least wearing a wig, lol.

There are all kinds of different women so if you consider drag to be a stylized female impersonation, that means it must cover the wide swath of women that exist out there. Alaska simply chose a different kind of woman that day❤
The scrutiny some of the queens had to face for doing something different only for them to eventually open doors to new challenges on the show. Alaska and Milk’s boy drag (drag king look), Rock’s fart joke and Mimi Imfurst’s wrestling/ drag is not a contact sports.
They also got on aMilk for wearing RuPaul's out of drag work room suit to the runway because he was wearing pants, which I thought was so ridiculous because it was creative to do RuPaul from the workworm when no one else did And then the season after that Kennedy did Little Richard and they stopped complaining about doing boy drag. The random ways they would constrain themselves and make up arbitrary rules was really ridiculous sometimes
Pluckedzilla is crazy 🤣 🤣 🤣 Whilst I absolutely love the show and have been watching since season 3, the older seasons can be so cringe because they (the judges) could be incredibly closed minded back then about any drag they viewed as too different or alternative. Which is literally so wild since drag has always been about celebrating exactly those things. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
They gave reactions, it's a reality show, and that was a moment worth a reaction, they were introducing a new concept to the public. If they really had a problem with boy-drag Alaska, somebody from production would've asked her to change before she got on the set. Like they asked Manila not to wear her menstrual pad dress. Regarding the "Rupocracy", since Rupaul had an androgynous look before most of us were born, obviously it's not about what he knows or accepts, it's about what the general public accepts, so the show started with the easiest to market drag and is gradually introducing more unfamiliar to the everyday person concepts. They were teasing Monica's secret from the first episode and her coming out as trans was a big moment, she was praised for it and many people were educated. Rupaul was giving verbal reasoning for not having trans contestants while in reality casting more and more trans people, that is how you get the public's acceptance. That is how the show consistently is, as they called it on "Sibling Rivalry", the show that is putting the most people up for success. Compare this to the marketing around Dylan Mulvany, where a single person was so heavily and forcefully positioned for success, obviously not the right strategy as it hurts the general acceptance for the trans community. It's not so hard to understand Rupaul's strategy, it's just based around some necessary patience. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I still remember the judges horrified reactions when queen's had the audacity to wear women's tailored pants on the runway. Like women and female presenting people can only wear skirts 🙄 I'm glad they're over it now, but it bugged me for so long
