If anyone reading this hasn't yet, try running double rudder mods. You give up some stealth, but you get a ~ 6s rudder shift which is great for dodging torps/incoming fire, or angling to someone quickly. I also find it's good at catching other cruisers off guard who thought they could turn away before you could turn your guns, just to get hit broadside after you just turned the whole ship on them. It's how I play my Alaska.

This is the ultimate blue collar ship. No gimmicks to get tired of and no one element either OP or glaringly weak. I got a devastating strike on a Salem in my Alaska today. He was bow on and pushing into the cap so I hit him with a face full of HE from my front turrets. 28k dmg and sayonara Salem. This is a great ship and it continues to surprise me. Among clanmates the consensus is it is actually a T10 ship for all practical purposes. It is beyond sad to see this ship in the hands of a clueless wallet warrior though. Thank you for another really good vid. Oh, and thanks for making every Alaska-less player watching this supremely jealous. Sublimely evil ... nice job!

I do love this ship and glad I got it. A clan mate and myself played Alaska's and held an entire side by ourselves. This ship is really good and can do the job. Great video.

This is my personal favorite ship in the entire game, I love this ship for what it is. Hard hitting 305mm guns that can even stand up to the most armored battleships, smash cruisers, and are decent against DDs. Your citadel is pretty hard to hit and your freeboard is actually pretty low. You have a thick middle deck to shatter most HE. You have a ton of health and have good utility.

When I play against it, it feels super tanky. As soon as I play it myself it feels squishy because everything that has 457+ guns beats the shit out of it.

Totally agree. Alaska can face anything very well. Its fun, maneuverable, has hard hitting guns, both with AP and HE. Its also very forgiving due to its tankiness and the Hydro and radar mean its rarely surprised and is an excellent support ship for the forward DDs.

Really agree on the All-round good part. Alaska does'nt really stand out in any area, but overall, it's honestly quite OP! Hardhitting American guns coupled with both radar and hydro, solid armour and a citadel yet to be found.😅

Personally, I disagree slightly with the all round good part, because while she isn’t bad at anything, she does stand out in one area in particular, which is hunting and killing cruisers. It is so much fun to just bully them.

@@zobayer1 Depends mostly on hit/pen percentage, along with how frequently you fire AP. If you often get 5+ pens per AP salvo, I think it is worth the 3 points.

I use my DM captain with the heavy AP skill on Alaska, it actually makes a big difference, from 8.9k to 9.35k or there abouts, it makes killing Stuff easier since over pens deal more damage so if you catch a DD you might actually clap them with the over pens and not leave them at like 55HP. It’s a matter of personal preference, the skills, I considered rpf on my DM/Salem but decided against it since I always play aggressive anyway and radars are my best friends

@@m_swizzy22 rpf is needed for aggressive plays. Range kiting dm has no need for rpf. Besides, it's a competitive skill, probably not needed in random but I do use it. It provides more information than most people think it does. For 3 points on dm, SE is a much better investment imo. Especially on Salem. Plus the thing you said for dds is questionable at best. Most people will shoot HE with high caliber guns against DDs. If you are minmaxing, HE does tons more damage to DDs than your AP overpens with heavy ap ever will. So if you are shooting them with AP, and spending a 3 point skill just because 1 DD might get away with 55 hp once in 500 matches, it's like you are wasting points to improve your own bad decisions.

I got the Alaska B and mass B this past black Friday and I've been absolutely loving both ships. I've been playing the hell out of the Alaska B and yea once you figure out how to play the ship its tons of fun I generally have good games in it. I love it I can take care of DDs I can clap CAs and CLs and BBs i can clap them to in the the alaska with a nice AP salvo in there broadsides it's great I love it

There is a option of getting Carnot for coal, which is also supercruiser with 305s and 30m side plating, which is pretty good

Siegfried is not a bad option either. You get some overmatch on some t7-t8 cruisers you'll face and BC dispersion on the 380's is pretty sick on broadsiding BBs as well. Alaska's radar is what sets her apart tho.

got the Alaska for free XP a few years ago. i have it set up with a mostly survivability build and have always enjoyed playing it. then on black friday i got the AK-B in one of the containers and i set it up as offensively as i could. and man do I really enjoy it even more. it is so much fun to get the faster reloads and just pump out rounds. and because people are used to seeing the "tough" Alaska's they turn and run and then pay for that mistake.

Well yeah Ägir is in somewhat a weaker Alaska...but I never have much as good games in an Ägir like in an Alaska. The Ägir was stronger but they nerfed her also to the ground. Good video though as always.

Potato Quality please review the Carnot. I believe that in the right hands she can be as good as the Alaska, with an even heavier ap broadside and with the right build a similar reload. Its insane speed makes it very versatile and not reliant on nose tanking unlike other super cruisers.

Alaska is a weird ship, I have a hard time getting big damage games but it's a great teamwork and utility ship. One of my best games in her was when I pushed a flank with my destroyers. I only did 50k but 30 was to the enemy DD'S and the sub, and my allies got to profit from my radar and hydro. My DD's survived and pushed the mid while I solo capped. The game got close towards the end but I distracted the last few BB's pushing, dodging, and bouncing their shells. Won on points and got plenty of credits and xp.

Love this ship! One of my most played. Always feels capable of holding its own and managing all situations. I've punished BBs and hunted DDs in this thing. My opinion one of the best ships in the game.

Alaska has got to be one of the best ships in game. It is the only t9 ship that I know of that is regularly compared to Stalingrad and other t10 super cruisers.

I really struggle with the Alaska, actually. Not sure what it is. I like the ship well enough, understand its strengths, but I just can't make it perform for me. I wonder if it isn't overconfidence that's my problem. Because I recognize how strong the ship is, I expect to be able to do things that I just really can't.

I feel exactly the same way. Dusted it off for a first game in a long time today. 139k damage, 1 kill, loss. Good game for me this time, but still lost. Only 39% win rate too haha so not sure what it is either.... :( Like the ship alot tho...

Just remember to use islands, only use your guns in the front and shoot true. A lot of ppl have overconfidence because they think they hit the right spot and got no damage or damage with no citadel. Some ships have certain spots on there broadsides that are more vulnerable than others, so knowing that will help out tremendously!

I too have up and down with my Alaska. That being said this is, pound for pound, the best ship in the game. It's biggest weakness is it burns. But it's guns are hard hitting. I use HE and then close with AP. You will hear use islands but my play style does not favor islands. I use my speed and concealment from my Alaska captain to manuver for opportunities. Don't give up.

Question as new cruiser user? Do cruiser need to have all its gun available against the enemy or showing your front gun is enough in heavy cruiser cause I'm new in Baltimore and I keep having that battleship mindsets??

Use your rear guns when the opportunity exists - Behind cover, when the enemy is focused on another target or when you have enough rudder shift to re angle between volleys. Depending on the cruiser, some are really good at bouncing, others are not.

Alaska is hard to citadel but Balti is not. Don't show your rear unless it's absolutely safe to do so.

Alaska is a different case than Baltimore. Though I absolutely loved Baltimore due to it being able to bow tank 15 inch guns. I just sailed toward enemy ships with 15inch and smaller guns and popped them with AP the whole way. The smarter way to play Baltimore though would be to use islands and shoot over them like you would with New Orleans. I found myself rarely using that back turret on Baltimore as your bow is just tanky enough to give other ships a headache.

Alaska is fun and really a great ship; the only thing I struggle with is getting kills. It seems to fall in between the alpha strikes of BB's and the rapid spam of most cruisers. hence I get soo many "just not kills". Stranding at 2/3k health If I compare it to the Massa games I've been playing lately (Massa B) I pick up soo many kills and often end up with 3 kills, which doesn't seem to happen in the Alaska.

Bought the Alaska ages ago when it first came out then got Alaska B in a container. If I could give one away to someone who doesn't have it I would. Such a great ship, can help you play nose in BBs better.

my issue with alaska is how fast I get burned down. I dont have the same issue in the kronstadt because of the longer range and isnane shell speed.

Now that you can't get fire prevention in cruisers, Puerto Rico is really not enjoyable to play. I actually quite liked it when it first came out, when everyone was saying it was not worth it.

If you want heavy broadsides then definitely go for Kearsarge with its 4×3, 406mm it hurts like hell. However beware that it has horrible ballistics and aiming at anything that moves at range is frustrating. Also the flight brick on top cannot be saturated and angling only mitigates citadels not the mass amount of full pens the deck gets. Plus the rockets hit hard at anything and can spot. Pommern's guns are just notoriously shotgunny but you are much tankier and have better secondaries.

@@mr.skully8787 Kearsarge will not disappoint you with volume and firepower but you won't like the reload or lack of options when you are at the front, it is very difficult to relocate once you are focused because of how cumbersome your hull is (longer than even Montana's I think!) But it seems like the Kearsarge would be more your style than Pommern if you don't like tanking or brawling since that's pretty much the strongest parts of Pommern. Just when playing Kearsarge don't actively provide the flattest broadside all the time because the citadel is not that well protected but the turrets on it can provide good angles to slightly angle and kite if you need to.

I’d lean Kearsarge. I have Pommern myself and it fell off a lot. You basically have 12 Bismarck guns that barely hit and the secondaries aren’t all that accurate. The torps and hydro are nice but 9 times out of 10 I’d rather be in Rupperucht since it does everything Pommern does but better. Meanwhile, Kearsarge has a tanky hull like Montana with 12 16inch North Carolina guns and pre-nerf Midway tiny tim rocket planes that can do 30k if they pen. I’d honestly go for the Kearsarge unless you’re a huge German BB fan.

Kearsarge is very unique and multi tasking ship you have an infinite radar which spots everything for you expect smoke and it heavy broadside but you have to learn to lead the shells because they are NCs guns utterly broken when they are merged with Dispersion module of the American 6th slot. And where as pommern don't buy it you have Rupprecht and Schlieffen or even Zieten is much better.

I struggle with Alaska's guns at range. The pen angles are great but hitting is an issue, Agir is much better for me. If you do hit she does massive damage, no BB is safe from Alaska!

Santa crates, Black Friday sales, super containers. Sadly it’s not in the shop anymore, though it’s little brother, the Congress, is. The Congress is just a tier 8 Alaska with 7 guns instead of 9. Might be worth looking at if you’re interested.

I have a much more negative view of Alaska than you do, though it's probably because I don't know how to play it as well as you do. I find every time I try to tank like people say to, I just get smashed through the nose (even by smaller BB guns) or burned to the ground, small superstructure be damned. And the dispersion loves to just go "fuck you" and be inaccurate. If I'm playing a supercruiser, I'm more likely to pick Agir.

Kron has crap dispersion at medium and long range and full 25mm bow and stern is a massive drawback

You can score citadels on 20km and sometimes i feel like handicapped Slava due to wonky dispersion, once pinpoint on max range then missing at 10kms. Also imo kf rng gods are on your side she is better vs DDs due to 12km radar with 400 meters camo buffor or something like that.

I stopped playing the Alaska awhile back, I just felt that Salem/DM did so much more in most scenarios.. Yeah, Alaska can get 15k salvo's periodically, but I can get the same easily from 3 Salvo's in Salem/DM. Alaska is supposed to be a cruiser killer, but I found that most of the time, it would just overpen, and then you have to wait 17 seconds for reload Although you get occasional blap of a broadside cruiser, when RNG favors you. Reload too slow to really take care of dd's. On top of that, waaay too many times I'm sporting 4 fires, repair, and boom, another 2-3 fires on me, and have to wait 45 seconds??? I'll easily take an Alaska on with Salem/DM, HE burn 'em to death. Once I got Petro, never looked back at Alaska.. The short fuse shells, ice breaker, faster reload, less fires just gives me more enjoyable play. Having said that, I've had some really WOW moments in Alaska too, when not overpenning.

The only person Ive heard that sucks ass with Alaska enough to not relish the autobounce angles or being able to tank bbs by far and large way better than Petro could. If you're overpenning you obviously can't aim for shit for the mid section of these more than Accurate guns. Des Moines can't pull up and get cqc ranges next to bb like Alaska can AND CITADEL THEM, neither have the staying power as well to not get screwed back into the port screen

This. It’s an Alaska with 3 less guns and can see tier 6. I mean the fact that you can fight against ships like Warspite or New Mexico and tier 6 planes like Serov is hilarious.

Honestly I hate this overrated ship. 12 mitutes of constant shooting - barely 140k with 160k overall history max. It isn't bad, but apart from the radar there's Jean Bart which can do everything Alaska does, but better. It's sturdier, faster, has way more reliable guns, secondaries, and even roughly the same concealment. Also yes, Alaska APs are kinda crap. I'm sick of landing 3-4 shells with like 2k damage in total. Cits? Forget about this, 1-2 per battle is already an achievement, most will be overpens. It's still better than Agir, but I'd rather have Azuma gunst instead.

Also no, Alaska doesn't have good survivability. Everything from BBs flying into you hits for 5-6k at least. While something like Azuma gets overpens if properly positioned.

alaska is good when your team work and the reds are newbies, if you have a single enemy that know about the game, alaska is a mediocre ship, nothing more
