We reach our second incredible pull-out in Alaska overlooking Matanuska Glacier which blew us away with its impressive size and how much it moves (a whole foot) in a day!
We arrive in Anchorage and finally get to a GMC dealer to get the check engine light fixed. The code the engine threw was p21dd, and they ended up changing out our Emission Reduction Fluid Tank Reservoir which is part of the DEF system. They also fixed two recalls and had us back on the road in a few hours.
We head down the Kenai Peninsula to the farm we volunteer at in Homer. We start right in learning morning and evening chores, taking care of the cows, chickens, goats, pigs and a BABY, which was Jess’ favorite job!
Corey heads out with Ashton, the owner of Callahan Fishing Co., and helps run nets on their commercial salmon fishing boat for 24hrs! The Hanta Yo (meaning clear a path or get out of the way) is a purse seining boat, and Corey shows how the process of purse seining fishing is done.
We realize while on the farm that we have an Alaskan intruder - our first mouse. Corey rigs up a crazy trap and actually catches the little critter!
Our last night in Homer, we head to a campground on the Homer Spit for our first time ever beach camping.

Beautiful Alaskan country. The truck and rv look so much better after the well needed wash. My daughter and I laughed so much watching the smores scene, especially the Lorax scene your daughter did 🤣. My daughter said she would love to convoy with all of you and see the country together.

Those homemade bucket traps work so well I’ve used those a few times and once I four mice in one bucket so I didn’t think anyone ever used that idea high five pal you done well ( big pat on the back )

I love this video. How nice you girls worked on a farm while Corey helped catch salmon. It is a learning experience. This was a great video. Loved how Corey knew he wound catch that mouse. Alaska is a beautiful state. I was there in August 2017. Cabela's is great for allowing campers to stay. Stayed a couple of times. Love the videos. Y'all are great! Hope y'all do another Alaska trip. Thanks for sharing.

Gregg Ouellette that mouse was literally ruining my life! I even had 4 other traps out that we bought just after setting that up, and the homemade trap was the one that got it😎. I got pretty filthy on the boat, Jess did great, she’s pretty incredible if I do say so myself😃

So I know all you RVers are behind on your vlogs. But man, in Less Junk More Journey’s vlog from today they just got their truck to pull their RV. And I’m sure y’all are a bit behind. Another great video. Always visually stunning. Fishing segment was interesting and the ending was adorable. My husband uses the same trap set up in a shed. Incredible at the number of mice the trap catches.

Sorry I didn't find you until recently... I like your videos! And a belated Welcome to Homer and to Alaska! I'm from Cape Cod originally but have lived out here for 10 years. While in town if you remember seeing an SUV with a skull on the back... I was out taking photos! I made the drive back to New England and then back again to Alaska in my Kia Sorento...no trailer, just slept in it on the side of the road. I now have a teardrop to go boondocking...looking forward to heading out again after this winter! BTW... If you picked up a Homer Visitor Guide with a phot of China Poot (mountain) with the Spit in the background... I took that photo! (it was the 2019 issue!) ... Maybe see you on the road someday! What a gorgeous place to stay at and volunteer to help this amazing family. If you get the traditional victory mouse traps without the big plastic flap and set them with one piece of hard dog food glued down on the trap, it works well. The mice never really get the food, and the trap snaps on the mouse. With peanut butter, cheese ect... The mouse always gets the food, and the trap never snaps. Glued dog food works!!! I've seen the trap you setup, and it works well however, if you have to move the rig, a smaller trap may help. If you can tolerate the smell Irish Spring soap bars deter mice. I've used this when parking our RV in storage. Also Bounce dryer sheets work well as a deterrent. Mice hate the strong smell of these items. Mice are a nuisance when camping in the country. Glad you caught this one!!! Enjoy Alaska!!!

You need to go spend time in whittier. I just spend 2 months in the anchorage area. When you go to whittier find shotgun cove rd. Lu young park is amazing. Keep following that road until the end. The views are amazing.

At first I thought this was a 2019 trip, but when you mentioned a meetup with LJMJ i remembered that when I was following them and KYD and Carolyn's RV last summer that you guys met up in Anchorage in 2018 at a person's home and then as I remember you guys went to Seward.

Great episode! So glad you were able to get the truck looked at and repaired. Getting stuck in limp mode in the interior would have seriously sucked! I'm really hoping that we can find volunteer opportunities like yours once we get started on our journey next year. One of the biggest drivers for us is getting Ethan real life experiences instead of just playing on a computer and ipad his entire life since he won't ever be able to work or live independently. Glad you got to go fishing , you were a mess but bet you thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. Your relationship with your girls is awesome, the Lorax bit was hilarious and made funnier by spitting out the marshmallow 🤣 Looking forward to more of your journey 👍

Great video. We really enjoyed our time in Homer. We camped in the same campground as you. We enjoyed walking our two little dogs out on the tidal flats when the tide was out. We wanted to let them run but with all the eagles our two pups would have been a nice snack for them. Did you guys go and have fresh halibut? We did and it was awesome. We just got back from camping with our daughter and two grandchildren so I didn’t notice your posting being late until you mentioned it in the comments. By the way I have a similar feeling about marshmallows.

I have 2 (both 100 watt) a cheaper one that I’m not super impressed with seems to only bring in 3.5 amps unless positioned perfectly then I’ve seen 4.5 . Then I have a Jackery that is much better , almost seems to do better then the specs when the other one is at 3.5 amps the jackery is at 5.5 . I wasn’t paying attention to solar efficiency numbers when I bought my first one. The jackery claims 23% efficiency I think the other one (mohoo)was 18% who knows maybe I broke the thing. I would say whatever you buy make sure it’s above 20% efficient and mono.

Dealerships are incredibly nice here in Hawaii, once they figure that there is a warrantee and recall issue. That is where they make a ton of money off the manufacturer. They know that you are happy because the repairs are free and they get paid tons of money doing the book repairs. They will swap out everything to reach the job limit from the manufacturer . Which means some working parts get exchanged for new unproven parts The situation gets a little dicey when the warrantee expires. They still smile when they give you the bill, and the bill is high because it is Hawaii/Alaska. Where you gonna go to get the repairs done?

Andrew Zenn you’re definitely right about the warranty stuff with dealerships! I’m more referring to the very small notice we gave them, how accommodating they were and the fact we were out of there in about 4 hrs. 😃

Most of the time people reached out to us or is was a friend of a friend that said “hey you should check this out” letting social media know what we’re up to has been the biggest thing for us. We just put ourselves out there and said yes. Congratulations! May will be here before you know it!

NonRev yes we are way off. We didn’t know if we were going to be able to make this work so we just enjoyed the journey and didn’t want to spend all our time editing videos. We are now in the process of catching up. So if you keep watching you will see this summer this winter and next summer in real time😃 we’re actually meeting up with LJMJ in a couple weeks. We’re still on the the road.

nastytwin 101 very old! 😂We have discussed in other videos that when we first started traveling we thought it would only be for a year and we didn’t know if we wanted to start a channel or not. Now that we have committed to fulltime, we wanted to start our videos from the beginning. We are hoping to be caught up by the end of the year! Hope you are able to stick with us until then! 😃

Our family recently purchased an RV to hopefully begin our adventures next year and have been following other families RV journeys and are the process of watching all of your videos. We watch one or two an evening and chuckled when it came time to "release the birds". A couple of months ago we cared for a friends homestead and one of the chores involved "releasing the birds". It’s my brothers screen printing company back in Maine 320 ink . The 320 comes from the temperature that the ink cures on the shirts 😃

We found out about it randomly talking to a family while we were in banff. We have found that Instagram has helped a lot to connect with people. As far as this place it was just the right time and place. Lots of the places we have helped out at have been friends of friends, people just suggesting things because they know what we’re doing. That probably doesn’t help you much, sorry.
