I recently had the opportunity to go chase big bucks in southern Alberta with primitive outfitting. I did my best to try and capture the hunt on film. I hope you enjoy it.

Fabulous. Real. Honest. Love it all. You do you. If people don't like your content they don't have to keep following, I consume all of your content and I would prefer if you wouldn't change a damn freaking thing. 😉

I normally stay in the bush for 7-10 days every season. Depending on the weather, (my hunting area south of Calgary is usually high winds and cold), I will camp in my insulated pop up ice tent, no guides or outfitting companies, just me and my bow. Way it should be. Nothing beats quietly stalking a deer in your socks to make a shot. No cameras, no cell phone service. Being connected to the land and respecting Mother Nature and being thankful is what it’s all about. Hunt safe everyone, respect the land and leave no trace. Pack out more than you packed in.

I just stumbled onto you bro. You have a perfect perspective in my eyes. I shot 4 nice whitetails this year. Two were guided. One of those was cheap and DIY. I shot a 160 with my bow on that hunt. My bucket list archery hunt in Iowa(5 year tag) was 100% guided and set. Five guys in camp. Two of us tagged out. I shot a drop tine buck. One year two awesome bucks...however.....my 130 incher on beat up public land rifle on a state tag in SD with my best buddy.....truly makes me feel blessed!!!!! My biggest public lander is a better trophy...for me.

Jay great adventure. What dates did you do this hunt? I just moved to northern Alberta from northern B.C. for a while, I’m trying to get as many unique Alberta hunts in while I’m here. What would be your opinion on opening week with a bow sept 1? I find they’re still in summer routine then. Being a die hard muley hunter it’s mostly draw up here, takes 9 years to pull a buck tag in the peace. I’m thinking of heading south with my bow Thanks bro

Sorry to say but other than that guided hunt I have zero experience with mule deer in AB.

a couple ideas for additional content: Pack dump for each hunt. In this case...curious to see what you carried because you were day hunting with an outfitter. Each hunt dictates different gear and tips. In this hunt...it looks like SUPER cold temps were a daily occurrence. Which FL jacket or layering system worked best for this one? Still...enjoyed the hunt and content. If I cant be there doing it myself, I can at least watch somebody else trying to get it done...and keeping it real too!! A bow hunt in that terrain is challenging to say the least! Congrats. You got in close TWICE>...its another experience to put into the memory bank anyways. One question about your stalking...were you silhouetting yourself on the ridges by chance? Tough conditions, and I enjoyed the content!! thanks.
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter 3 года назад
Great ideas for content. I'll put that on the list for sure. As for silhouetting you hit the nail on the head, that is absolutely the primary concern. Ideally they're bedded facing the other direction but sometimes there was nothing I could do. Again, that's one of the things I think I'd be better prepared for next trip.

Great video. Thanks! What days of the season was your hunt? Im trying to predict some weather for my trip planned for October of this year in southern Alberta just southwest of Calgary. Were you hunting by Edmonton or closer to Calgary with Primitive Outfitting? Looked pretty cold with that wind chill lol.

I grew up in Medicine Hat. Nice to see some home turf on a hunting video. I tried to see if i could tell where you were, and i have my guesses based on lack of agriculture but ill keep my guess to myself haha. Not much for land features to go off of unless you can see the south sask river, cypress hills or sweetgrass hills in the background lol. flat as fuck. Love your approach to hunting and life man. Keep them coming.

Glad you enjoyed it and also glad I didn't make it too easy to locate the spot. It's always tricky to tell a good story but not show anything too identifiable. That is some of the coolest country I've ever hunted.

What’s your camera set up?
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter 3 года назад
For that hunt my main camera was a Sony a7iii with sigma 24-70 f2.8 lens and I had 2x GoPro 9’s. I have since upgrade my main rig to a Sony a1 and added a second lens 35mm f1.4 G.

I don’t get why hunters shit on other hunters. Why even bring it up?? Either way the hunting portion of the video is cool.

You're right dude. In hindsight I came off harsher than I wanted too. I was just trying to express something that I was seeing that frustrated me. I agree it's important we stick together even if we have different motivations or choose to hunt differently.

Yes Joe Rogan Hunts on private Ranches, and yes maybe it is “picking the litter of big bulls” but .... being a celebrity endorsing hunting is still very positive for the hunting community. Opening the eyes of the public to the understating of where your food comes from is still valuable.
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter 3 года назад
I agree with you 100%. On the whole his impact on hunting is positive. My only knock is that he sets unrealistic expectations for newcomers. And has a tendency to hyperbolize his hunting trips.
@justinmcintyre9648
@justinmcintyre9648 3 года назад
Yea I agree with that for sure. And I’ve been hunting for 15 years now and know that isn’t the reality of public land hunting. I still think the message of knowing where your food comes from and having a connection to it, matters. But anyways really like your videos and I wish I had a hunting partner like you! Someone who has the same passion for hunting is hard to find... ( Im guessing that’s why you go on solo hunts or guided mostly haha!) Cheers!

@@MindfulHunter yeah...when he did the meateater show with Steve and hunted mule deer and Sitka on public land..i remember him saying how hard it was. IN fact, he said he would never go back to hunt the sitkas in the wet rains (of alaska I think). Guided hunts on private land not even close to the same time.

This is the 1st video of yours that I've viewed. Take it FWIW, I have a couple comments. 1) You talk too much and when you do, you curse too much. I would never let my kids watch your videos. I'm far from a prude, but it narrows your appeal. As does comment #2) You $hit on Joe Rogan and barely finish wiping, then say "I dont want to $hit on anyone". Huh?? I'm no JR fanboy, but there are certainly many of them. When you crap on a good dude with the following he has, youre going to lose potential audience. Bad move. 3) See comment #1. Edit yourself out of more of the video. I doubt that you will, which means I'll likely not tune into more of your stuff. Then again, there is always the mute speaker and FF option!! Good luck!
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter 3 года назад
Yeah I probably wouldn’t bother watching any more of my stuff. You likely won’t like it. I make stuff that I like. If other people like it sweet, if not that’s cool too. Have a good holiday season.
