Thank you both for your refreshing discussion that rises above the clouds of the woke agenda that threatens our republic. Instead of taking this opportunity to build and unite their fan base, the WNBA is on a course to lose any momentum they had gift wrapped for them by the addition of CC to their struggling organization. I am an " old white guy" that believes in the equality of ALL humans. I'm a new fan of both of you.

There was racial animosity in April 2023. Dawn Staley make dubious accusations of racism against reporters, and Angel suggested racial double standards and said "I did it for girls who look like me". Black people on Twitter immediately started saying Caitlin did the same thing (even though Caitlin didn't taunt anyone) and saying there was a racial double standard and said that Caitlin's fans were racist for calling Angel and LSU players thugs and ghetto.

Me too, gosh, do we all have to say our demographic? I'm just a silly ol' farm boy. How about that... I love all of the kids, have taken many in my home (of all backgrounds) and my heart is with all of them. It hurts me to see Clark targeted. It hurts me to see kids led to targeting Clark, for those kids too. IT's the adults who need to start standing up in the room and looking to join each other and make sense for the youth again.

Caitlin Clark is exciting to watch, she made basketball fun to watch. The WNBA is not fun, and they seem to salivate at the opportunity to crush her, put her in place and snuff the lights out of her. I hope she remains strong, resilient and mentally healthy.

I don't even like basketball much less a woman's sport. Caitlin showed up on my RU-vid feed and I enjoyed watching her. This isn't the same Caitlin. They need to fire Indiana's coach for holding her back. I personally think that certain wnba players, her coach and the refs are making it hard for her to thrive in this sport. The WNBA need to get this house in order or they will lose all this money pouring in and they go back to people saying,I'd rather watch bowling.

Yes let Caitlin Clark be Caitlin Clark don't restrict her gifted talent... they didn't restrict Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, MJ, LeBron James, etc.... the Coach played around what made these NBA Players "GREAT" .... they wasn't restricted as SIDES want to do with Caitlin Clark... remember Caitlin Clark has a high basketball I.Q. she will figure it out quickly!!! Let her do what she is good at!!! I didn't watch Women College Basketball/WNBA until I seen Players like Angel Reese, etc .... Angel I'd Beautiful! But let them play!!! As for what you said... it's reasonable!!! Caitlin Clark had surrounded by Players in college. And Caitlin Clark knows that she just learning the systems, trying to know her new team mates! This is all new! But to downgraded a Players of your team live on TV and it's only a pre season games it's uncalled for, unprofessional as a Coach. You are there to lift up, encourage, and positively show & tell her behind close door. Not for the world to hear!!! Just my opinion Sides records speaks for itself. Before you judge you better look in that person in mirror that is doing the talking.

You're so dumm. ALL OF THOSE GUYS HAD TO TOW THE LINE WHEN THEY WERE ROOKIES. Additionally, Curry WAS ABSOLUTELY HOG-TIED UNTIL MARK JACKSON GAVE HIM PERMISSION TO BOMB AWAY. Had Mark Jackson not been the coach of Steph and Klay, and if he wasn't willing to be ridiculed for allowing the 3-ball the way he did, you would have never heard of Steph Curry. And the job of her Caitlin's teammates, coaches, etc, IS NOT TO "UPLIFT, ENCOURAGE, AND POSITIVELY {ANYTHING}. EVERYONE'S JOB IS EXACTLY THE SAME, TO PROTECT THEIR OVERPAID, IRREPLACABLE, JOB. You're just like everyone else on here, you just MSU, (Make $hit Up), and then start spouting it as truth.

Caitlin was also an honor student Marking major. I was a casual with Iowa. But my father who never watched WBB who probably “accidentally” watched an IOWA WBB game. He saw Caitlin play and encouraged me to watch her for a year. Finally, I gave in during her Junior year and I have been watching since and fell in love with all the WBB team. I now watch the WNBA because of Caitlin. I will stay but it is contingent if the WBNA players choose to ugly and racist to their fans and Caitlin. The ugliness is tiresome. It hurts people’s spirits and mine.

You're absolutely right about the misuse of the "woke agenda," and I'm a leftist saying that. WNBA players and commentators can't seem to give her credit for her game. They only give her credit for "bringing eyes to the game," as if she's a means to fulfilling their agenda. She's not a means, she's a revolutionary force in basketball. Now I watch her debut against the Sun, and it's both the opposing team and the refs trying to snuff out her fire at any cost. It's almost unwatchable.

Not only was it the refs and opposing team, it was also the announcers. Whoever the guy announcer was, kept shading Caitlin the whole game. Then when the game ends, WNBA + main stream basketball accounts, were quick to make posts that just scream “I want her to fail.” Idk, just weird energy overall.

I felt for her today. Where is her support? Shes getting double and triple teamed with no help which leads to high turn overs. Her team mates look slow and sloppy and can’t catch her passes or don’t score which leads to low assists. These stats just fuel the haters. Why didn’t the coach call challenges on the bogus fouls? Is that not a thing anymore? She got smashed by 3 players. I really hope she doesn’t get hurt. And with all that bs she still scores 20.

It's because her coach thought she "danced" too much with the ball, so now in her debut game, she hesitated a lot and her first bucket was a lay-up instead of a 3, and she and the team did a lot of standing and poor ball movement.

Thank you for the insight with your you tube posting. I’m a white dude from western Canada with a preteen mulato son who is enamoured with the black culture, therefore I like to keep my finger on the pulse of the discourse. I can understand that there is sour grapes on a rookie with a whopper of a contract with from a sports wear company right out of the gate. I believe that there will be a change and turnaround by her peers and acceptance and perhaps a change in this ugly gangster- hood attitude. What many of these girls fail to understand is that they would be a liability to sponsors like Nike and the sorts to promote their product and run their mouth like they do. It’s simply not a good look. Sponsorship is available to the outstanding on the condition that they behave accordingly Not only is it my hope a positive change in the future but it is my postulate.

Caitlin Clark did the John Sena "You can't see me" wave to the face in the Louisville game 2023 tournament. The media was saying she did that towards Hailey Van Lith. She was doing it walking back to the bench to her weight lifting coach. Angel Reese did all the taunting because she thought CC disrespected HVL. But it was a lie by the media. CC. Angel and HVL played on the USA circuit and AAU, so they have known each other for years. Actually CC is 1-5 against Angel. Angel played at Maryland(Big 10) for two years.

When she is saying on here that it is weird that there are Caitlin Clark fans that hate Iowa fans and it is weird to try to figure out why they are writing such strange things... well, I have found many fake accounts saying they are Caitlin Clark fans... but when you start reading all if those individual posts I have found they usually come for Louisiana and have ties to Angel Reese or LSU. And this year there have been ties to Diana Taurasi and/ UConn. So they are not really Caitlin Clark fans at all. They are just pretending to be CC fans then they write horrible things about Caitlins teammates and coaches so those people will turn on Caitlin and hate her. Wish people would realize these people writing racist remarks and hateful remarks about Angel Reese and other players are NOT really Iowa fans nor Caitlin Clark fans! They are posers just trying to destroy Caitlin.

Every game in the WNBA is like playing a NATTY, if CC couldn't win in college playing that style what makes you think she could do it now when she has to defend better shooters to wear her down, and players who can shoot better than those college players she faced. If she's hot going to adjust get rid of Boston why keep her when you don't intend to use her. Yeah get rid of Sides to who won at every level knows something about 3 pointers because she was that style of player. Like AR said she don't rely on how she played in HS, and College to determine how she will play in the Pros at every level she hit the reset button and it was the key to her success. No one criticized the Sky coach after she criticized AR after their last preseason win, no one said she should be fired, both Sides and Witherspoon coached at all levels played on the college level and was successful and was a part of a staff of legendary HCs. You can't fault the HC when your 2 guard have 10 turnovers.

I've commented with you before Adrienne (happily), and shall I say it is refreshing to also hear Alberta's good sense commentary? I say ''shall'' because so much of what we would observe IS common sense. However, we find ourselves in the labor of reinforcing common sense. There are several layers to how common sense has been covered during the rise of Caitlin Clark's popularity. I will reinforce those you both have noted and share a couple more as well: 1. Social media - cultural toxicity that we have not come to terms with, learned to manage - this is on the personal responsibility level (don't believe everything you see/hear. If you don't have something good to say, then don't...) 2. Media business - compounding the loss of social responsibility in communication is the money that is made through interpersonal conflict, online 3. Women are needed - Partly because we talk about women's BB/sports and partly due to human nature, we need women to lead the way on this one. First, good examples of achievement and leadership should be uplifted (such as Coach Bluder and Caitlin Clark) so young girls have these examples to look up to - race can be left out when uplifting sportswomen. Second, men have less emotional tolerance. This unwarranted negativity, this unjust persecution of an innocent women, will only drive men away. If we walk away, and we are, the bottom will fall out of the popularity. Simply put, we don't have the patience to fix the toxicity that negative women are putting forth. Women are better equiped to deal with the toxicity of negative women. 3. "Marginalized" communities. I'm not a fan of the new terms, primarily because they are often weaponized to divide and push down (white in this case) some people and to victim frame others. Of course we understand that some people/groups fall behind in certain times and places. In this case - the WNBA has been behind the NBA. We also have seen (some) women and (some) black people fall behind. - There are options. Common sense says that when someone/group wants to improve, they look towards those who are more successful. So, in this case the question would be, "Why is Caitlin more successful?" There are several reasons for this, which I will note below, yet the right thinking is to JOIN, which Clark invites, and to learn from the successful - not to tear them down. 4. Power Brokers - similar to the media business, there are people who gain power/money/atttention by misdirecting people (including the young, black, women) towards negative thinking and interactions. MANY of the WNBA and WNCAA players have been misdirected by their mentors, coaches, and influences. They have become so misdirected that they actually believe people (white, Iowan, whomever) are against them ... Dawn Staley may have been the worst of these. This is a hot take because she is ''protected'' - given coach of the year when she replaces five lost 5 stars with 5 new. She tried to frame Coach Bluder as racist, and seeded her players to think Iowans are racist...who then passed this bias on to the LSU players, which then caused them to talk to Clark like Tiger Woods was by Fuzzy and Reese to act out...and then the fanbase to flare up on all of this negativity.... It all started with Staley. (Staley continues this with her adolescent word games that Clark is ''a'' GOAT and the ''only'' reason for popularity rise...) 5. IOWA - Iowa has a special sub culture. This goes all the way back to the early farm days which brought forth a community sense of cooperativeness, loyalty, and mutual support. Even though we are in modern times, our tendency to be steadfast has carried this forth. We have the longest tenured coaches, politicians, and the longest tradition of supporting girls' basketball. This goes back to the early 6vs6 days when our tournaments for girls were as supported and exciting as those for boys. It follows that a girl, growing up in a culture that never told her she couldn't do anything would believe she could do ANYTHING and so... She's done Everything Possible! There is SO MUCH that could be learned from the Iowa culture and support of girls sports. Also, Iowans - in the vast vast majority - support anyone who joins our team/community. We have long included people from all backgrounds, all we care about is whether someone is loyal, hard working, and cares about the community. This is why we would never trade our loyal players just to get more wins/championships. We have LONG supported our black players too. It is sad to have to say this, as it should be obvious. We try to support character. We have been SHOCKED to have people attack us. Some of us will reply to such attacks, mostly to protect the girls (how sad it was through the tournament). But most of all we will just retract the hand that we happily offered in good sportsmanship and friendship. 6. Iowa is the Wave. Clark was courageous enough to ride it. Hawkeye fans are truly outstanding - because we support our teams/players win or lose. Clark's loyalty to us, who have always supported her, will be repaid with our loyalty her entire LIFE. . . Other players don't have this. - Ex. THe Connecticut Sun never sell out. They just have 8,000 seats and, even with half of the top players in college and the WNBA, there is no real fanbase. That is the #1 reason that the WNBA has been failing. The talent monopoly teams fail to build fans. A star can't shine on a team of stars and the fans aren't so loyal to the players, always feeling entitled to the ''next'' front runner class. 7. Clark is special but how she handled herself is even more special... She is a phenomenon. Like Tiger Woods, she has all 4 qualities of a phenomenon: A. Unexpected - we never saw her coming - a basketball slight girl, from Iowa B. Underdog - she is not an NBA child, from a farm system C. Organic - she came up naturally, didn't join a super team D. Unique - she did things we have never seen before. Her deep threes and records blew the world away Understanding 1 through 6 is something that people can do. #7 is beyond what most people can reach. We see a phenomenon maybe once per decade, at most. When they come along, we should just enjoy them. Caitlin makes it that much easier because she has a down to earth, common sense, kind character (while having great competitive fire).

A good point you made is that Iowa is the WAVE. I agree 💯. 1. A'ja Wilson and others around the league are missing a special connection with their own FANBASE(s), which has negatively impacted attendance, tickets sales, their brands, etc. 2. Instead of players like A'ja Wilson learning from Caitlin Clark's approach to fans, and how CC caters to fans, and makes positive remarks inviting fans to come out and support the Indiana Fever, they'd rather make excuses for Clark's popularity and relegate her popularity to her race. In other words, a subtle jab at Iowa fans because many of these players like A'ja and also college coaches don't like Iowa fans and by extension Clark's fanbase. This was also the reason for the racially-charged attacks that I received from many haters of Iowa/Caitlin Clark on X this past year. 3. Many Iowa/Clark fans have also been blocked on X by Coach Dawn Staley (myself included). Although, she seemed to make amends with Iowa coaches and Caitlin Clark, this doesn't mean she is now also cool with Clark's fans (also Iowa fans). A lot of WNBA players around the league DO NOT like Iowa fans. We're now seeing sudden hit pieces talking about Caitlin Clark's popularity due to her race, which is their way of claiming Iowa fans ONLY support Clark because she's white, and by extension they're claiming Iowa fans don't support blk players in the W like A'ja because she's blk. In other words, a lot of these journalists and analysts who cover college and pro basketball are making a claim that Iowa fans are racist who only support Clark because she's white. 4. These college and pro basketball analysts and journalists are attempting to relegate Clark's fandom to her being white, and would love nothing more than to separate Clark from her fanbase. But based on the special bond Clark has with the Iowa community and women's basketball community in Iowa, these people can never separate Clark from her fanbase. 5. Iowa supports women's basketball. A lot of WNBA players have failed to connect with their own FANBASE in their respective cities and states. Their race is not to blame. They've been at war with their own fanbases! This is why their game attendance sucked for so many years. This is why the ratings were at an all-time low in the W for so many years. 6. I heard recently that Christie Sides told Fever players "Just Be You." I think Christie has read the social media comments many fans posted, and she's now going to let Caitlin be Caitlin, and play her natural game. That's great! 😃 7. Let's give Christie Sides the benefit of the doubt.

@@sarademoret425 I was shocked, but then again not having seen the history, that the Connecticut sun has never sold out a game except when the league began, until the Fever came to town. One might guess that Yukon with all of the women basketball fans would support the sun, but it goes back to the idea that these Monopoly talent programs have fans who are used to a front-runner and easy wins.

@@SisterNoble Oh! I missed your reply. 1-2. First, it's sad that we might need to, but there is SO much noise we can clear it with simple honesty. I....I love black people. I love white people. I love Latino, Native, ME, Asian, All people. I will put my care, effort, honor, and even life on the line for others - should the need arise, for anyone. We need to clear the air of the non-sense projections. A bit of Iowa history. Iowa first had women playing bball in 1895! (at the same time Fred Kinney came with Iowa integreating football EARLY in the Midwest). You could say that Iowa was ''progressive'' before such words were weaponized - We have kept up this tradition (also note George Washington Carver whose genius was supported by Iowans when Kansans and Missourians of the time were, well...bad to him). Of course there are some jerks in Iowa, but the idea of fair chances and fair play has always been in our blood - and for all people with the same color blood. 3. Dawn Staley blocked you? Did she also accuse you of calling her ''a monkey''? (Pardon my sense of humor, but that press confernce, and her bias influence on both SC and LSU players is one of the worst sequences of poor sportsmanship I have seen since '' the good ol' days'' when Fuzzy Zoeller types spoke like that with Tiger). I can give love to Staley, as can many Iowa fans, but I'm wise enough not to offer man hand twice to be slapped again. She hasn't shown she wants our love and I gather she'd rather be divisive as a dirty recruiting tactic (come to SC because all of those other teams/states are 'racist' and we want what's best for you - which is helping ME win fame and $$ while you will flounder and be forgotten after college when we look to '''next up''). Also, we LOVE the other players including Hanna Steulke, and in the past Kachine Alexander. Of course Clark, with her transcendent talent gets more attention. It is sport. I can recall back to the 80s, most great black men players and we loved BJ Armstrong, Roy Marble - who call Iowa home decades after... 4. That is sad and interesting. Of course, they more we see her threatened, especially in that she has done no harm and instead Benefitted and been Charitable, the more we become protective of her. We won't leave her whether she goes 1-39 or breaks both legs (knock on wood). Loyalty to ''our neighbors'' is in our blood. This, our protectiveness of her, then is interpretted as being even ''more'' racist - because we protect her ''because she is white'' lol. We would do the same for our black kids. We have been since 1895 and Frank Kinney Holbrook was backed by our teams when faced with direct segregation when the team traveled to other states. I guess Hanah, Kachine, or the 100s of other black (or any background) youth who have been born here or joined her are invisible to the narrative. Sigh. 5. Attacking fanbases? Hmm.... Sadly, I think the ship has sailed for A'ja and the senior WNBAers. They did not build a fanbase in college. The WNBA doesn't have the positive traction in the zeitgeist to build fans. I would STRONGly encourage them to jump on the Clark train, even if it is frustrating that they don't have their own. - For one, Iowa, real Iowa fans are extremely sympathic and, having watched Clark take a lot of toxic hits - both on and off the court- there will be a LOT of love for any player who reaches out to Clark and says "I got you" (instead of, "stay in your lane"). THey made a miscalculation putting a WNBA team in Connecticut rather than Iowa. We are rural-community support minded. Maybe Connecticut is more ''results'' minded. All I know is we would support our team to the limit, even with a small population. 6. I can't say about Christie Sides, in fairness they've had not time to practice and build. Her team did come in with bad habits (poor box outs, screens, conditioning). 7. It is a matter of time before Clark's talent forces Side's hand. I hope she adapts like Kerr did to Curry. Fagbenle is a wonder! - I have an idea, with no way to assess it... Maybe the top 20 to 40 in the WNBA are clearly the best. But past that might there be MANY wbb players (overseas, at home) who are equally as good as the base 100 in the WNBA and, might some of these players NOT have the bad habits that have forned in the WNBA? I know that Iowan Monica Czinano is overseas, and she is equal/better to the very solid Kate Martin. Much of the abillity of these Iow girls comes from their coachability and the fundamental discipline gaine with Bluder. They may not be able to ''take over'' but they won't ''give away '' games, which is enough if they have a game changer to back up. Are there more like Fagbenle? She is just remarkable in her sense for both the ball and how to play with Clark. Did she do her own study? With a cohesive team, Clark might not get a ring but they will make noise. If only people could just let everyone enjoy the show.

Why are WNBA players acting like there weren't good white players in the WNBA before Caitlin Clark? If it was just about race, it's not like fans needed to wait till now to get interested: Breanna Stewart, Sue Bird, Sabrina Ionescu are all very good white players. They're not bringing in fans like Caitlin. If you were to run an experiment to prove a theory (racial bias) then you would want to see if the dependent variable (fan interest) is affected by changes in the independent variable (race). The fact that race does not increase fan interest in these other WNBA players who posses the exact same characteristics shows that the hypothesis of racial bias is BS.

Players are gunning for Caitlin, as well as some media, but from what I've seen of Caitlin on and off the court I only think it will make her stronger in the long run. Just gotta weather the early storm and let that fire forge something stronger, and I believe this fire will only make Caitlin stronger.

Well, Bluder was sitting behind Sides last night. I was already thinking after she announced her retirement that it would be kind of cool to have her coach the Fever, and then when she was sitting behind her and the newly promoted Jan Jenson was sitting next to her taking notes at the home opener last night, I thought...it would be really cool! I doubt that will happen, but maybe the Fever organization will make that offer. 🤷🏽‍♀

WHO IS CC GOING TO REPLACE ON THIS TEAM. so everyone in this chat obviously knows that the USA has not lost a game since 1992. The team has always primarily consisted of vets. So all of you good upstanding Americans would rather have a lot of people watching the game rather than ensure we continue the streak and ensure we win. CC has not adjusted to the pace and the size and versatility of the pro side of this game. This was in no way an emotional decision, it was in fact a business decision. I’m positive if she continues to grow and adjust she will most definitely be on the next round, guaranteed

This is crazy how Caitlin is being hazed like no other rookie in the history of the WNBA. She is being double guarded sometimes triple guarded. I have watched all the other teams play this season and some of the archived games from last year. NONE of the great players like Ionescu, Stewart, Taurasi, A'Ja Wilson and on and one are being guarded from the half court line and have people in their face constantly. From grade school to now to high school to college to now in the WNBA Caitlin has never badmouthed any teammates or opponents. She has lived in a gym because she loves sports. Her best friends are from all ethnic groups and nationalities. She could care less about politics and other people's agendas. She has sold out arenas for the WNBA. Brought viewers to games on TV and online. Been the most positive thing to happen to get people to follow the WNBA. Has said nothing but positive things about all the veterans of the WNBA... But is being hazed more than any other rookie in the history of the WNBA women veterans. Is this why people watch college basketball instead?

She took an Iowa team to back to back conference championships and back to back national title games. She did it shooting like Steph Curry and breaking numerous collegiate records. Iowa had other great players don’t get me wrong here, but CC carried that team to great heights. As she did Iowa fans started packing the house and going crazy, that starts getting around through the media and now people all over tune in to see her play some truly spectacular basketball. My biggest thing that people need to remember…she didn’t ask for this. She didn’t push or ask for any of this and despite all the hate she’s handled it with grace and talk constantly about her love for other women’s basketball players and her desire to see the whole league grow and be seen. She only cares about playing the game she loves, growing the league, inspiring kids, and getting better at her game. How can you be mad about that? One caveat I’ll offer. I think a lot of the hate is due to the media relentlessly pushing everything. I can’t imagine how frustrating it is to be in the league for years and win a game and the first question you get is about CC. I get that. But I also think that all W players need to be mature and learn how to deal with the relentlessness of the media. There are a lot of beautiful things pushing great progress in the sport and there is so much to be positive about right now.
