Albie and Bonito Time! - New High Speed Reel Review

A great morning of False Albacore (AKA Little Tunny) fishing is used to review the new Penn Clash II HS (High Speed) reel. At 44 inches per turn you can trigger the albies with speed, or simply not have to crank as hard to skip lures on the water's surface. Reel oscillation speed is as important for this fishing, and is also covered in between the video's screaming drag.

Google earth - I tend to rely on, although I can not find Mr. Skinners actual spot.. the only time I had north shore fishing was the beach down the block from my uncles. It’s called Hither hills, but it wasn’t that far out east... although I do remember a customer ( being an electrician ) we did a job in orient point and I remember the homeowner/house wife saying how good her sons were doing.. my bad Johnny. It’s my daughters 10 th BIRTHDAY 🎂!! You’re the only guy who can catch a shark and tire him out and un hook him ! That video was awesome!!!! 🤝🙏🙏🙏🙏🎣🎣🎣☀️🌙☀️🌙

I loved the footage of how fast and willing these fish are to chase a very fast skipping lure on the surface. This proves why the retrieve speed and style are so important. These fish are like little fighter jets! I hope everyone has a fantastic fall run.

John, twice a week I feel like I am just talking and getting fishing tips from my favorite uncle who just happens to have an incredible wealth of knowledge about fishing our area, and is incredibly generous with his time and knowledge. Your videos are presented in a way that is easy to understand and trains us to think like an experienced fisherman because the dots are all connected for us. Thank you so much for the time, patience, and caring about the quality of what you put out. We are forever indebted and you make fishing, which I love to my core, even more enjoyable. But they never tell us what that ONE thing is that makes the difference. You can know the exact spots, lures, rods, gear, retrieve, etc. You can fish like it's a second, much more fun, job. And we are lucky to catch a handful in a season. Yet the same half a dozen guys (at least with RU-vid channels) are just disgustingly consistent. I have come to believe that some people just have an innate sense of current, structure, moon phases, and fluid dynamics. Either that or their fathers showed them all the spots and all the right times and tides. I don't know. I only know that I'm the guy that spends thousands a year on gas, hundreds of hours on Google Earth triangulating spots from videos based off of a single cabana, tree, boulder in the background... and is lucky to have one day like this per year. Kudos to the blessed.
@killajakez
@killajakez 4 года назад
@@thereelraconteur7801 There are specific spots for albies. Breezy point is one. But it's always right place right time. I've gone to a pier in Sunset Park, high tide coefficient, perfect tide, moon phase, in late october last year. I didn't get a *single* bite for 3 hours. But of course, people like John that have been fishing consistently for 40 years or so know the exact spots that produce.

Since you are a Penn guy, what are the differences between the clash 2 and the conflict 2? Which do you prefer aside from the high speed model? Have you seen any Albies recently? I'm getting unreliable reports and hope to get out on my boat in next few days. Fast retrieve is always a strategy but when fish are on balled-up bait I find a slower but jerky retrieve keeps the lure in the strike-zone. But when they are hungry either strategy works and when they have lock-jaw neither does. Great video as usual.

I used to love Penn before the "braid era" - the line lay sux. Stick with Shimano or Daiwa for a way better experience. Go see Tackle Advisor's channel for the info. Penn was great in the "mono" era but lacking in the "braid" era - which is now. Clash? At that price point, the Stradic FL or Daiwa Ballistic is light years ahead.

Have you fished a Clash or Conflict?

@@JohnSkinnerFishing Sorry but I've lost interest in the brand after tons of wind knot issues. Just by the eye test on the line lay it doesn't seem like they did much improvements. I know there's still a lot of followers but there's no sense in me investing in something I don't have faith in. Have you tried the new Stradic? Daiwa Ballistic LT?

It's always best to fish what you're comfortable with. The Clash has been an albie machine for me.

@@JohnSkinnerFishing Yes, I heard it's a very good reel and it certainly has held up extremely well for you. I've watched a lot of your vids and purchased your first striper book. We don't even have stripers were I live so that's saying a lot.

Not spot burning and it wouldn't help either every year these fish will be in a different spot and not for long as they're always on the move

Come on John, Treble hooks with barbs. Real sportsman!!
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 4 года назад
Most of those hookups, almost all, are a single point of the treble. A single part of a treble is much smaller and penetrates much less than what most people use for singles. I've tried singles, and felt they did as much damage, and sometimes more, than a small treble.
