In an interview with MTV Gaga explained about The Fame: "This idea of 'The Fame' runs through and through. Basically, if you have nothing-no money, no fame-you can still feel beautiful and dirty rich. It's about making choices, and having references-things you pull from your life that you believe in. It's about self-discovery and being creative. The record is slightly focused, but it's also eclectic. The music is intended to inspire people to feel a certain way about themselves, so they'll be able to encompass, in their own lives, a sense of inner fame that they can project to the world, and the carefree nature of the album is a reflection of that aura. I like to funnel interesting ideas to the rest of the world through a pop lens."

Paper Gangsta is about the first record label that promised her all sorts of things before singing her, then a couple months after signing her dropped her because they got impatient with her and didn't like her songs. It should be mentioned that she hadn't written any of the songs that were on The Fame yet when this happened. Brown Eyes probably doesn't fit the Album since it was one of the songs she wrote before she got platinum blonde and was brunette, dressed relatively normal and was only singing piano songs.

I Like It Rough is so underrated! This was the first album I ever bought with my own money at age 12, and because I didn’t really understand how things worked, I used to come home from school and google ‘I like it rough music video’ at least twice a week hoping it was dropped. That song in particular still lives in my gym playlist to this day

I know everyone is so exited for you to experience Artpop but honestly I think Born This Way or Joanne will be your favorite. They have the most metal or rock type moments from gaga overall. Every era is amazing. I cannot wait for you to dive into the music videos and live performances and the documentary. There is so much and I guarantee you will adore it all. Thanks again for everything. I've probably bugged the hell out of you for a year now for this and it's finally here.

I was in primary school when this dropped and instantly fell in love with the album. This is a non-skip album and full of bops this is one of the more ICONIC debut albums of all time

Paper Gangsta is a literal diss track to DEF Jams Records who dropped her because they couldn't see her vision as an artist and the album was not going anywhere, she just wrote songs for other artists instead of herself. I'm very happy that Interscope Records gave her shot and now shes been bigger than ever. So thank you Interscope for letting Gaga be Gaga.

I was a senior in high school when this came out - but I didn't listen to the whole thing until sometime in college. I remember a critic I enjoy putting "Just Dance" as his best track of the year - he said he's always liked his dance music to have a desperate edge, and he got that on the song because you can hear that Gaga is losing control.

Everyone here is saying they're excited for you to check out ArtPop, which is legit, but I feel like Born This Way is her best album and is going to give you a completely different idea of Gaga's artistry. The sound of Born This Way is electro-Eastern European rock, and I don't think you're ready for that.

Paparazzi is one of my all time favorite songs by Gaga to this day. It's a perfect pop song.

This album is very nostalgic as I grew up listening to this I remember being in the car to school and every morning the radio playing another one of these hits the singles were just so good

I would love for you to rediscover All We Know is Falling- the first album by Paramore. It's a blessing. We love GAGA, this is so fun! 😊

I loved this album. This came out like two months after Katy Perry's One of the Boys and it was just a great summer for pop music. Also, you look happy and healthy (not trying to quote a song, just trying to say you look good without being a creeper.)

Fun fact, Boys Boys Boys was considered to be released as a single! There’s even rumors of a music video being filmed but never released 🥲 My 3 fave tracks off this album are 1. Paparazzi 2. Summerboy 3. Boys Boys Boys But honestly this album is a complete masterpiece and what made me fall in love with Gaga right away when it was released. And 12-13 years later, she’s still mine and millions of others’ queen 💖

If I’m not mistaken, I think Brown Eyes is either about Luc or Matt. I’m assuming is Luc Carl, her on and off bf around this time. Paper Gangster is about the record label that signed her then shorty after dropped her.

I LIKE IT ROUGH IS THE BEST TRACK ON THE ALBUM AND ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVE GAGA SONGS 😅 when she sang “loving me is like chewing on pearls” / “loving me is like straightening curls” **mic drop** Followed by Starstruck, Love Game (I had never heard anything so futuristic [along with the bridge in Just Dance] and electrifying in pop before and I LOVE the video), Poker Face (the song that really sold her to me). I was also super into her writing Brown Eyes because everyone usually always writes about blue eyes so finally some representation, lol😅 If you watch any performances from this era you NEED to watch the Paparazzi VMAS performance + her award speeches where she shouts out “God & and the Gays” 😭 + search for “paparazzi acoustic” and “poker face acoustic” you won’t be disappointed ♥️ So stoked for this deep dive 🖤 Ps. I also had the Gaga beats earphones that were shaped like a diamond, I loved those bitches 😌✨ Pss. It’s funny that you mention the rock influences in certain songs because you totally just got it 😭 Gaga at one point said (referring to Boys,Boys, Boys) “ I wanted to write the female version of Motley Crue’s ‘Girls Girls Girls,’ but with my own twist. I wanted to write a pop song that rockers would like.” I also loved your interpretation of Paper Gangsta:)

fun fact: money honey is actually gaga's least favorite song on the album, but for me it is one of my favorites!

I think it works for Gaga and it does sound better with headphones or what have you. Glad you enjoyed I Like it Rough & Starstruck though. Those are probably my other 2 faves apart from the singles. The Fame singles are all untouchably good. I just prefer the songs that don't sound so much like the rest of the album. Thanks for revisiting Gaga's works. 💜💖

Steven, as much as you love this album, you should really watch the DVD of her live concert, "The Monster Ball Tour Live At Madison Square Garden"! Whenever I've had a bad day, all I need to do is start watching it and my mood changes instantly. It literally transports me into a much better place...It just makes me smile. I know that probably sounds crazy, but that's the effect Gaga has on me. And I love her for it! Her talent is limitless! Icon!
