I never thought a half-assed acoustic cover of Plainsong was something I'd ever need in my life. Yet here we are.

Trust and To Wish are probably two of their most orchestral almost classical tracks

I actually quite like their next album. It's pretty underrated imo.

I respect your opinion, but Cut is an absolute banger and those high notes Robert hits towards the end of the songs are marvelous.

Their best album in my opinion. I love the way they've mixed the instruments. Best performance of Porl Thompson in the band. He and Boris Williams would left the band after the wish tour, respectively the best guitarist and drummer the Cure ever had.Their departure pretty much crippled the band for good.

Ths album was à heavy play for me when it came out but I've lost sight of it. I love these reaction videos for exactly this reason. They remind me of how good it was , much more than just the sur of the listen

This album landed in the middle of a trend in early 90s production, where the main singer sung in a low register, then sung over the top in a higher register, so you’ve got the lead singer doing their own backing vocals. It didn’t last long, but I love it. The strongest example was REM covering First We Take Manhattan.

This was one of 2 albums from the Cure I bvought the same day! It was Wish and their greatest hits! This album is so good!

This album sounds exactly like the album you'd come out with after you've made your masterpiece. Oddly reminds me of Built to Spill's Keep it Like a Secret following Perfect From Now On (obviously Wish came before those but still)

I love Wish, but I would like more changing some songs... As almost everyone says, the B Sides from Wish are AWSOME, so, for me, it would be a superb album with some b sides in... Maybe some day you could react them... There are an incredible Wendy Time demo version, I never understood why Robert decided to put it aside instead of the one that remained... Lost wishes are 4 discarded instrumental songs. They are not bad, but for that better the 6 b-sides that are wonderful, the best that the band has done without a doubt. 1.This Twilight Garden is as good as Just like heaven, dreamy like none. 2.The Big Hand is a slow ballad with a wonderful atmosphere, typical of the cure sound. 3.Halo would have been a great single. It's captivating, like being in love. It is difficult for me to understand how these issues were left out! The other three that remain are very good too.

In this album the guitar of Porl Thompson, the rocker of the group, and the shoegazing influence of the bands of that time are very important. For me here the band sounds more dreamy than ever, shows its two sides better (happy and sad), it is the album with more songs to choose from as a single, and it has three very sad songs that I love. This is The Cure. In fact "Trust" is my favorite song of Robert Smith and company, it's the saddest thing I've ever heard. The only problem for me is that the b-sides are better than half the disc.

Hey alex would you be trying the album wild mood swings. A lot of people think its more pop central and it kinda is in a way but it also has Jupiter crash on it

I was waiting for your reaction with so much curiosity. / For my taste this is the last memorable album from "Cure." A CD that I waited for and lived in real time when it came out together with the singles, the video clips and the concerts of "show" and "paris" Even the laser discs of its time. Just hate friday in love. And my only wish is to get “wish" on vinyl one day. As an Album concepts: “Disintegration" is the best and finest work, "Pornography” is incredible ... but "wish" - in my case - represents many experiences and regarding its recording moment it flaunts everything well learned in the past, applying mastery formulas sharpened without further experimentation but with complete confidence and ease.

By the kind of music you reacting to, I’m curious of what you're thinking of Kissing The Pink (What Noise?), Soft Cell (The Art of Falling Apart, This Last Night In Sodom) or The Blue Nile (A Walk Across The Rooftops). Love your The Cure journey.

Looking at the reaction I feel it's better than I remember... The thing that holds this slightly back is the lack of a room it creates, more of a collection of songs rather than a theme here.

Need to play MGSV while having Friday I'm in Love playing, it's featured in the game itself as a tape track you can get. Also, I know it's a silly song but I love it. Wish is my personal favorite album by them, but I agree Disintegration is their masterpiece.

You've mentioned the "Pictures of You " after listening to "High". The main similarity between those two is that Robert plays the main melody on the six string bass.

I think this is my second favourite, too. We both seem to favour the Cure type ballads. I also like Wild Mood Swings, but I can see why it might be off-putting for some fans.

With the Cure 🍃 if they catch you when your in your deepest love loss, then yes the pain and anger in his writings will come to life. Bringing great tears and great screams of anger. Just as you working in retail, Friday in love triggers that angst. Try to listen Cure when you encounter some love loss of love.

I like this album much better now than when it was released. From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, A Letter to Elise and High are my favorites. Completely agree that Friday I'm in Love is sub-par. One of my least favorites from them. Wish is still behind Disintegration and Head on the Door for me for sure though. Probably 4th or 5th best IMO.

WIsh is as far the most underrated album, the minus is this atrocious Friday I'm.... That my friends an I never understand

If _Disintegration_ is The Cure's _"Dark Side Of The Moon,"_ _Wish_ is their aptly-named _"Wish You Were Here"._ The perfect follow-up. Their Top 40 radio peak ("Friday I'm In Love" & "High" were inescapable in '92/'93), the success of _Wish_ saw the band enjoy the commercial fruits of a decade long journey from the Indie Art-Pop scene to the mainstream with an album by a songwriter at the height of his Pop craftmanship. Their last good one. Don't sleep on 1986's _In Orange_ - their finest moment.

High has Bass VI in the lead, on top of an arpeggiating guitar part, with yet another Bass VI part behind it, and then the bass driving it as well. It started out as a Simon demo, with all of the parts pretty intact, as a lot of the demos start out. The Bass VI was the key to the sound of Disintegration, really, along with the string synths. Wendytime, I can't believe you rate this higher than Cut, yikes. Your expression at first made me feel hopeful that you would see it as the shittiest track on the album, which it rightfully is. Doing the Unstuck was actually supposed to be a single at first, they even commissioned a 12" remix of it, but then it just ended up not getting released as one. The remix is on the Join the Dots compilation, it is actually a good remix, too. Even Friday I'm in Love has a Bass VI line running all the way through it, that's how much the band loves that instrument. It is a great song melodically, just overplayed. Trust was a demo submitted by Perry Bamonte and I've always loved the song, the lyrics, everything, but Roger McDonnell feels that he has to virtuoso up the piano part, and it is really annoying AF these days. You prejudged Cut, and that was the issue. The song started out as a slower synthy song called "away", if you search it, and it grew into a much better song. And the live version from Show is even better, it is frenetic as fuck. That tour had so much wah-wah it was kinda crazy. With just albums, you've missed "Never Enough", which was where the wah-wah obsession started. I actually saw them for the first time on the Wish tour, twice, back to back nights, and let me tell you, it was loud AF. But one of the best concerts I've ever been to. It was actually the 2 concerts right after the one they recorded for the "Show" video. At this point, many people have that opinion that Wish is "the last great album". Wild Mood Swings hit a lot of people poorly because of the song they chose as the first single, but other than that, I think there are actually some great songs on that album. People just have to wrap their heads around the fact that if a band doesn't evolve over time, then they are stagnant. And The Cure evolved. There were totally some of the same elements at times, but there were also some new elements thrown in at times, and that WASN'T A BAD THING. Just different.

Letter To Elise is meant to be 'simply' inspired by Les Enfants Terribles, but rumours persist that it's either about one of Robert's mistresses, or merely a woman he wanted to have an affair with...possibly a certain singer. [Clue - remember who wrote Enfants Terribles].

Some thoughts from me.on this album. Song by song. 1. Open ☆☆1/2 - musically more going on but Kiss Me is better than open imo 2. High ☆☆☆- super catchy. Whimiscle but it's a very solid tight song. Still, it's a bit of a let down as the lead single for the album compared to the last half dozen+ cure singles before 3. Apart ☆☆☆1/2. Highly underated and top 3 to 4th song on the album for me. 4. From the edge of the deep green sea. ☆☆☆.I always kind of compare it to the title track Disintegration. Even though i like that one better..both go on a little too long though I would agree. 5. Wendytime.☆1/2 I would usually skip this track 6. Doing the unstuck.☆☆. I would always skip this track. But listening now it isnt bad. If u like this u should review their next album Wild Mood Swings. It's very much like that. 7. Friday I'm in love. ☆☆1/2. Its catchy but not for me. And too overplayed during that year. 8. Trust ☆☆☆☆1/2. Absolutely magical track. Almost impossible not to cry to if you have known it for 30 years now. 9. A letter to elise ☆☆1/2. Good song. Not sure it should have been a single. The 7" version kind of lost a little of the songs magic too from editing it down a little. 10. Cut ☆☆☆. I like it better than Open. Not bad 11. To wish impossible things ☆☆☆1/2. 12. End. ☆☆☆ As you can see from my ratings. Trust, apart and to wish for impossible things is the Cure in their wheelhouse. Their desire to follow up with 'hits' on this album with some of the other tracks lost the the cure vibe on this album.

Doing the unstuck from show is the way to go

Wish is not a bad album but there's nothing new compared to their previous records. After a while all their songs sounded the same to me. I miss the more experimental side of their earlier records.

Watching you play "plainsong" made me wish Bob Dylan had covered it.

Wish is the last decent album The Cure made.Although,it always felt a bit of a let down to me after Disintegration but i guess that was always going to be a tough act to follow. Probably a 7 or 8/10 some good songs some downright dodgy songs. As I said before,its the last good thing they did and please don't waste your time of listening to Bloodflowers,The Cure and 4:13 Dream(Wild Mood Swings as a handful of decent songs.. Don't bother with their upcoming album either because it will be inevitably hopeless(When you take 13 years to create an album its not because you're striving for perfection,it's because you're running on empty.)
