In case you're wondering - yes, you can have some alcohol occasionally on Keto, if it's something that you enjoy. Some alcoholic beverages are better than others though.
In general, you should avoid drinks like sweet cocktails and alcopops as much as possible. For example, a typical Long Island Iced Tea has 32 grams of carbs per 12 oz. and something like a Smirnoff Ice has 31 grams of carbohydrates. Maybe you're even able to mix yourself a sweetened cocktail without any carbs, but forget the ones you get at a bar.
Next we have beer: Try to avoid beer, as it's usually higher in sugar - a 12 oz. bottle of Corona or Guinness has about 14 grams for example. If you can't live without the occasional beer, then go for a light beer which can have between 2-7g of carbs, so choose the right one. Still, don't overdo it.
Wine: If you enjoy drinking wine then dry wine is your best bet, either white or red. One 5 oz glass of dry wine usually has between 2-4g of carbs. Sweet wines have more sugar.
Hard liquors and spirits: Unflavored, pure liquors like Vodka, Tequila, Gin, Whiskey, Rum, Brandy or Scotch have 0 carbs. So you can include some occasionally if that's what you're craving for. Their high volume of alcohol still blocks your metabolism, so even if you're drinking hard liquors that have no carbs in them and your blood readings show you you're still in Ketosis, your body still has to metabolize the alcohol first, before anything else. That means the alcohol has to be burned before burning fat or even carbohydrates for energy. As a result, it will halt fat-loss during that time. Also, they still have calories that you need to take into account. Alcohol is never going to be beneficial for your health, even if it has no carbs.
Sorry if I'm coming off too negative here. This doesn't mean that you can't include some alcohol every once in a while if you believe it significantly improves the quality of your life. Just keep in mind it will not help you lose weight if that is your primary goal.
Now that we got that out of the way, you should also know, or you probably already realized, that you get drunk a lot faster on a Ketogenic Diet, maybe twice as quickly as to what you were used to before. If you're trying to save money, you might even say you're getting more bang for your buck!
No but seriously, just be more careful the first time you drink after starting Keto.
You might also experience an intense hangover the next day. To avoid that as much as possible, make sure you stay well-hydrated when you're drinking alcohol and drink plenty of water.

I personally only drink very rarely, I might have a small glass of white wine once a month. I'm grateful to have realized a couple of years ago that I don't need alcohol to have fun. But I also never enjoyed drinking that much before, so that's just my personal preference.

Good video! Oh yes you can! Keep up the good work... Stick with Gin, Vodka, Scotch and Whiskey; use only carb-free mixers. And remember, drinking alcohol puts your ketosis on hold until your body metabolizes the alcohol...

I went cold turkey when I started the keto diet and coming up to one month of ketosis I had to go out for dinner. That glass of red wine was life! So glad I can still enjoy a côte du rhone or merlot while still losing fat :) :) :)

Keto is part my lifestyle and not my life. I will buy a bottle of Jack Daniels and polish it off in 2 days then I may not drink anything for several weeks. I don't have any problem staying in ketosis since I am fat adapted and can go in and out without any problem.

I have about a glass of dry red or white wine about 2 times week so far its not had an effect on my weight loss or ketosis but I restrict it to a small glass or about 100g and sip it very slowly to make it last ;-). I include the calories and carb content in my total daily count.

Another good way to avoid a hangover besides the crucial drinking of water between shots, is to take a large dose of Vitamin C & B complex before and after drinking.

yes, especially Vitamin C can really help prevent a hangover! I didn't even know B-Vitamins could help in that situation, thanks for sharing!

I'd be really hesitant with Brandy or Rum. Both are naturally very sugary and cheaper versions usually have sugar added after the distillation process. In fact, most cheap spirits are sweetened after the distillation process. Red wine has some health benefits when used in light moderation; a glass or two a week. But generally you are very correct, if you want to be healthy, you don't need alcohol. That said though... am an amatuer bartender who has been keto for a few months to repair my damaged liver from drinking... my goal is one day being able to enjoy spirits again at a lighter weight and a healthier body.

Once or twice a week. That's it. Also, only with my bf or my best gal friend. Never alone in a bar. I am what I'd call a middle weight, and I prefer to stay that way.

Hey Angelo! Great video! I have been on keto since almost three months now and over the dreadful flu. Thankfully. I haven't even had a single drink in the last 3 months and it really feels great! I am a weirdo with a glass of lemon water too. High five! But sometimes I replace the water with unsweetened soda/carbonated water. Do you think that is okay? The ingredients list only mentions water and carbon dioxide and the nutrition label claims 0 carbs. What do you think? Is it okay to have carbonated water (unsweetened) with some lemon or apple cider vinegar with some salt? (I am not asking occasionally; I am asking on a regular basis.) And, as always, loved the video. :) Keep up the good work and check out my vlogs too some time. Not as professional and follower-dense as yours but I am doing my best to spread the word in my country. Take care!

Great vid...now and then, if I'm out socially...which is rare these days. A vodka soda is my drink so...boom, low cal but I didn't know it was no carb. Brilliant. One or even two won't effect much I'm sure..thanks! (but again, not often) I miss red wine, however *sheds tear* lol Sub'd Thanks!

Haha yes you do get brilliantly drunk on keto before I knew it was stronger. Don't really want a drink these days which may be part of the good feeling that goes with keto

All my life I never paid attention how important "Liver" is and how many tasks it performs until I got into ketogenic., and there is no way in hell you can run on ketones if your liver is not functioning. ONE WORD OF ADVICE, "TAKE CARE OF YOUR LIVER AND DON'T DRINK" :-)

After I got into ketosis which came very quick for and also was fat adapted and bouncing off the walls in 6wks .. I really wish I didn't drink as often as I did during my full blown ketosis stage ( about 20mths) cause I would have lost even more weight ( and I know this for a fact and it pisses me off) during this stage .. I started in March 1st 2016 and lost soooo much fat from 40% to 23 and went from 193 to 158 (but I'm smaller now compared to when I weighed 135 ) My probelem was , YEP, way to many parties and know control ... Thankfully I was a superhero at fasting and iseemed to stay fat adapted for the 4mths I've been maga lazy keto .... I'm now trying to get back on the keto train and could use so.e serious help ... Since starting back I've actually gained 5 pds and ifi d that strange ... Can someone help me with getting back on track ??? I appreciate any and all help ! Peace and xx

I have been over doing with my alcohol consume lately , di you know how to undo fatty liver or do something to improve the overall health of your liver ? Eigentlich Ich hatte gern mit dir gesprochen

yes, as you're consuming fewer calories. But you won't stay in Ketosis if you're replacing the fat with more protein or carbs.
