I was actually really concidering on buying these, before I saw this ”review”. They seem to not work. At all. Thank you for saving my money for something that actually works! 😅
I ended up going with Outdoor Tech Chips 3.0 Wireless Helmet Audio, and it works like a charm! They do not have P2P audio call capability, but you can always use them for regular cell calls (via Siri). I don’t know how it is for the America, but at least here in Europe the cell coverage isn’t an issue, even at the “mountains”.
I've used it multiple days without it running out of battery. But I use it pretty much as music headphones. Not the comms. I've never been able to successfully communicate with other people.
It just requires one tap/press of the comms button to engage communication. I find using the corner buttons are the easiest to press instead of the middle button as well.
It's doesn't use anymore battery that having Bluetooth speakers on. I've used them all day in the mountain and the Aleck themselves have lasted me several days in the mountain without charging. The phone I use all the time taking pictures, checking apps, etc and that lasts me all day but do have to charge every night. Once you connect the Aleck to phone and set the people you want to talk to you done have to take your phone or at all. Use the button combination in the headphone. Basically just tap your ears.
You have to hold the Play side button for 1 second to activate Google Assistant / Siri / Bixby. It cannot be started by saying "Hey Siri" or "Okay Google"
Thanks for the video. I am trying to decide if I should get this as an upgrade to my OTD audio chips since the coms function on it doesn't work at all. These look like a great alternative. Does the app really show where people with these are located?
You need cell data for this to work. So if the mountain you're in has good service then yes, they will work. Otherwise no. I pretty much just used them as expensive Bluetooth speakers.
I pretty much just use it as Bluetooth headphones. They are amazing for that. The communications suck if your cellphone connection isn't good in the mountain.
I’ve spent an hour trying to figure out how they actually mount in your helmet with 0 information. Their Instagram doesn’t help and your video is no use. Thanks
Helmets have a zipper on the ear flaps. Unzip and slide the Aleck Audio Comms in. The video was about the use of the audio comms, not how to place them in the helmet.
If you don't know how to mount it to your helmet then you probably can't mount it to your helmet. You need a helmet that is audio compatible and not every helmet is. You should look for a video review about your helmet to see if it is audio compatible and where the zippers are for it.
